Gut It Out
A father gotta gut it out, no matter the stares,
They watching you struggle, but who really cares?
If the roof caves in, they quick to complain,
Even when you out here pushing through the pain.
Stayed strong, held it down, never took a break,
While they reaped the rewards of the moves Iād make.
Saved houses, sent smiles, gave vacations away,
But when I needed them back, they just walked away.
Nah, Iām not bitter, just lessons Iāve learned,
Life flips scripts, and bridges get burned.
At 51, yeah, Iām standing on my own,
On this journey solo, but Iāve grown.
They forget the nights you couldnāt sleep,
Worries too heavy, debts too deep.
But I carried the weight, I bled, I fought,
Still, they vanished like lessons never taught.
But Iām still here, heart full of fire,
Built from the ashes of my own desire.
No handouts, just these calloused palms,
A life redefined, calm through the storms.
So let āem forget, let āem talk, let āem leave,
Iām still building, still breathing, still believing.
Gutting it out, till the final breath,
Walking this path, Iāve got nothing left.
Just me and the grind, and thatās just fine,
āCause this is my life, and I make it mine.
Only need God the rest I'll deal without.

I just want to spread this post for that more people can read it, this amazing author named,Angie Thomas, wrote this book about Starr Carter who lives in Garden Heights but goes to Williamson high school, which is a mostly white school. Starrās friend Khalil was shot and killed by officer 1-15, even though Kahlil was unarmed and wasnāt a threat at all. This story is not only about the death of Kahlil, but the struggles of all black children across American and how society and history has spread stereotypes among both the white and black communities cause Starr to have trouble being herself. Starrās too afraid to act like herself in front of her white friends because sheās afraid to be labeled as, āghetto black girl.ā At the same time Starr doesnāt want to show herself to her black friends because she gets labeled as, āwhite girl.ā Starr is even afraid to tell her own father about her white boyfriend, Chris because she feels as if sheās betrayed all African American men. This story goes deeper than any meaning, it lets us know what stereotypes do to others and how our expectations on others can be harder on people. This book doesnāt just point out the flaws of one society but two societies to show that not everybody is perfect. Please read this amazing, life changing book by Angie Thomas.
