Keeshond

Once called “Overweight Pomeranians” by British dog shows, the British Kennel Club didn’t call them by their official names until 1916! Pronounced “case-hawnd,” the Keeshond is the national dog of the Netherlands. They are plucky, intelligent friends who love their people and stick to them like glue. The Keeshond is a member of the Nordic Siptz family, bred to ride barges in Amsterdam and is nicknamed the Smiling Dutchman. They have a two-layer coat to protect from water with silver and black markings. The dark patches around their eyes tend to look like a pair of spectacles! Keeshonden (the official plural of Keeshond) are very attentive and intelligent, and ready to do anything asked of them. Famous owners include Disney Superstar Laura Marano and Irish poet W. B. Yeats.
