Kehoe’s on Anne St
Just a short walk down from McDaids is Kehoe’s on Anne St between Grafton St and Dawson St. The pub is not only packed on the outside, but on the inside as well… good weather in Ireland brings everyone out for a pint or two.
Walking into Kehoe’s it is easy to see that nothing has changed in the over 100 years it has been in business and yet it has been well maintained. This pub used to be a grocer where one could stock up on their household needs while having a quick drink. The history of the pub has been preserved with old photographs and vintage beer signs adorning the walls. The ground floor is naturally sectioned by small wood bar dividers offering some privacy to its patrons as well as a few snugs, small private rooms.
I grabbed my drink at the bar and then immediately was brought into conversation by an older gentleman. We chatted for a bit about different whiskeys and wines as apparently he was in the wine business. Then he tried his best to figure out where the hell I was from….after guessing all of the large cities in England and many cities in Ireland, he gave up. This happens quite often when I am out at pubs and I have to laugh every time.
I then hit the stairs and checked out the 1st floor which was a bit more open, but still quite busy. Another bar was open on this floor with bar stool surrounding and bar tables throughout the room. The music for the majority of the time was quite good. My last stop was the women’s bathroom on the 1st floor which I was told was quite large and they were not kidding…it was like a mini lounge. Not sure what the point was, but steps above many other pub bathrooms I have seen!
Kehoe’s has charm and character that I would expect of an Irish pub with a prime city centre location. The clientele are a diverse group ranging in age, but all looking to have a good bit of craic. It is an old Irish pub I will frequent in the future…..
