NOOOO OMG NOOOOO no theyre not related at all!!!! im so sorry for the confusion. let me explain their relationship

keith and carlos met as young kids because of sports. they played little league football and baseball together! not always on the same team but always in the same league (though i imagime as they got older, 11-15 probably, they played on the same travel teams). keith is two years older but carlos plays up an age group because of skill (which leads to a lot of jealousy and resentment on keiths side). they grow up in their youth as sports rivals, and keith is frequently the object of carlos’ anger— meaning carlos, who was a very angry child due to the way he grew up and was raised, often picked physical fights with keith. so, more or less, they grew up hating each other.

as teenagers, carlos did develop an odd sort of crush on keith, which is hinted at. it depends on how you read the media whether or not you think keith reciprocated that, and i want to leave that up to personal interpretation. this attachment is not played for fluff but instead meant to be toxic and,

at times, disturbing. it is clear that, in their teenage years, they have an odd sort of rival obsession with each other (though, since we typically see this described from keiths pov, carlos’ obsession seems to be one-sided), and this can be read as either homoerotic or not again depending on preference.

when carlos is around 13 and keith is about 15 (i think bare with me 😭), carlos dad luis marries holly, and so holly and her two kids priscilla and teresa move to michigan to live with carlos and luis. keith meets priscilla, carlos’ new stepsister, in school and immediately falls head over heels for her. they’re best friends until they’re about 18 and they end up getting together. eventually, they get married, thus making keith apart of the family.

this forces carlos and keith to be ‘brothers’ because of the way the family dynamic works. by marriage, they are brothers-in-law, but they have no relationship to each other whatsoever. keith is simply married to his sister, and at that, she is his STEPSISTER. they are only brothers by label.

the point is to illustrate the way they’re FORCED to be family and how that affects them after years of a really fucked up relationship— and also how, shown especially in aimbk, that forcing them to be brothers doesn’t change who they are or what they’ve done to each other and never will. even if they DO love each other like brothers now, years into adulthood, they still will always maintain their roots of a fucked up relationship, even if they hide it. this is why, the first time you see them interact in wdyc, you see an outsider pov (beckett) describe them as seemingly having a nice, brotherly bond. and then you see inside their povs and realize it’s very complex.

so long story short there is NO relation between them at all!!! they are NOT related!!! at all!!! im so sorry i should have clarified that omg. ty for whoever asked this because this clarification was needed. THANK YOU!
