Thread Lace #13, Kelly Darke

I use fiber, both recycled and new, to create abstract fiber compositions. I create each piece with the deliberate intention to convey a positive energy to the viewer, and I believe that fiber art and the process of creating fiber art is meditative and healing to both the artist and the viewer. I am interested in researching the idea that intentions can be embedded into a piece of artwork and exploring the limits and possibilities of reaching viewers and affecting their emotions through the work. This piece contains yarn I used to knit a blanket for my newborn niece.

Growth, Kelly Darke

The base of this piece is a vintage sheet recycled to be the support of new media - combining old and new. A handmade stamp was used to create an all over pattern on the base, large strokes of black spread across the surface, then dimensional stitching of pink pods reminiscent of seeds that inspired the title: Growth. All the stitching is created with a sense of calm and love to infuse the finished piece with those intentions so that you, the viewer, will feel the love and calmness embedded in the art.

Part of my process... I look for fiber scraps / threads, colors, and textures that compliment the work I've already started. This piece in particular started off sad/dark (it was my mood at the time when beginning this piece) - but now it needs to lighten up a bit.
