hey so i just discovered your tumblr and have been doing some binge comic reading haha! i saw that you get infusions and i was wondering over what time period you get them? I just had my first one a couple days ago and it was infused in an hour and i felt terrible during and after it. i heard from another potsie that they have to do their 2 liter infusions over an 8 hour period because their body can't handle it over 1 hour. my doctor said it doesn't matter what time period but i'm not so sure
Hey, @kellyfish! I don’t get infusions anymore, because they actually made me feel super awful instead of making me feel better (but that’s kind of the norm for me). When I did get them, I had to sit with an IV in my arm for H O U R S, because my body couldn’t handle the fast drip, either. It made me feel really weirdly lightheaded and dizzy and just all around awful. One thing we noticed with my infusions is that I felt better when I got lactated ringers as opposed to just saline–lactated ringers have some other electrolytes in them (like potassium), and my body tolerated that WAY better than just a saline infusion. The saline infusions just kind of made all my POTS symptoms worse–which is not supposed to happen, but hey, my body is REALLY crazy.
So yeah, I couldn’t handle anything more than a super slow drip, but in the end they didn’t even help me anyway… >.> I hope you have more luck with it all!
@kellyfish: WCIF the long hair in the 4th photo? it’s so cute!!
hi! please be a bit more specific. there are two hairs in that picture and both of them are fairly long haha
hey! I've had POTS for a while now (almost 4 years) and only recently heard about service dogs being a big help. I was wondering how much it costs to get one/have one trained? do you have one and if you do has he/she helped you a lot? I'm very curious to see if this would help me :) thanks!
I don’t specifically know of anyone actually dedicating time to training/selling dogs for POTS, so I don’t know what a price would be for that, but I can tell you as a dog trainer myself you’re looking at somewhere at least around a couple thousand dollars... but probably into the tens of thousands for a fully trained dog. $10-30k is typically what a fully trained, pre-trained dog costs when not from an organization run off of donations. Someone coming to me for weekly classes to teach their dog to do the same would probably be paying about that when all said and done.
I do have a service dog for dysautonomia; my doberman Creed. I’m a dog trainer and trained him largely myself, but it was a hard road and not one I recommend going alone if you don’t have any experience training working dogs. Enlisting a trainer to help you out will probably be the best bet if you can’t afford a pre-trained dog.
Creed has helped me take a large amount of my life back! Without him, I was mostly in bed or in a chair all day with no energy or desire to do anything, and no ability to do more than walk to the bathroom maybe without fainting. With him- I can work, I can drive, I can attend faires and carnivals, I can go on hikes, I can live where I couldn’t before. It’s a lot of work to keep him occupied and entertained on days I still can’t drag myself out of bed, but we make it work somehow.
Hey! I just want to say that I wasn't the anon who sent in the follow up to their ship request. Sorry!
Oh!!! I am so, so sorry! Ahhhh, I couldn’t seem to find the exact same anon, and I paired it with the description that was closest! I’ll re-do the ship if you would like, sorry! - Pika TT
