Thanks for the beautiful pictures dear @lilsomnium 🌹 The sun sleeps in the hollow of the mountain. The celebration of Yule has begun from the darkest moment of the year. The ancient Finns celebrated Yule until the length of the day was visible in nature. Candles burned through the night for the spirits to gather. Visiting spirits were served, keeping a close eye on silence and avoiding harder work. The elf-like creatures (Haltijat) had to be kept happy by offering them food and beer. Success for the future was wished with sacrifices and a spells. The time of the feasts was especially significant and sacred. In the Yule evening the dinner time was after bath in the sauna and when the straw was brought into the house. On Yule night, one might get up for a “midnight meal”. In some areas was manor to wake up even nine times to eat more in the night time. Drinking Liquor was sought to improve next year’s harvest; the more sips the host of the house took, the more fertile the fields would ripen the following fall. #thoridsgewandschneiderei #julfest #wintersonnenwende #kelten #germanen #flame #heidentum #pagan #paganism #pagangirl #heathen #keltenfest #celticmythology #celticpagan #celticwomen #heathenwoman #jul #oldgods #vikinglife #medievaldress #vikingdress #heathensofinstagram #pagansofinstagram #yule #odin #vikingsofinstagram #vikingstyle #norse #norsewoman #medieval (hier: Midgard) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXwRKWDrHT6/?utm_medium=tumblr
