Egyptian theophoric names have recieved a limited amount of discussion in the literature. Konrad Hoffmann produced a short monograph which includes a helpful taxonomy of such names, including that of Anubis. He showed how they illustrated particular attributes of the deity, such as his or her durability, glory, and exalted state, as well as relations betweene the divinity and the human world, such as graciousness to people.
