Sometimes I wanna write Long Story Short fics about ”episodes that would be cool to see”
One of these I thought about:
Cold open, around early 90s, maybe 92. It’s Shira’s birthday at BJ Banana Fingers (which we have seen in childhood photos the Schwooper kids had birthdays at too).
Naomi is trying to take a photo of Shira but she refuses to smile (she barely ever smiles at photos as we see in the intro). Then Yoshi crawls off (he is 1, but still have not learned to walk) and Naomi yells at Elliot for not watching him, so the two start arguing while Yoshi keeps leaving unattended. Baby, who obviously would be at Shira’s birthday party, opens the party room door and lets Yoshi crawl out just for the chaos of it, and then prompts Shira that they go out too and play in the large indoor play area. So they run off and play and get lost in the crowd.
Cut to around 2024-25. Walter and Benjamin are about to have a birthday at BJ banana fingers, and their moms ask which room they want. The only problem is: the boys want different rooms. None of them want to compromise, so now Shira and Kendra have to split up. They both want to be there for their boys, so during the birthday day, the two constantly switch rooms so that they both can be with their kids.
But suddenly, both Walter and Benjamin are gone. None of them are in their party rooms, and the moms realize they might have gotten into the large playroom. And as they try looking for them, Shira starts getting flashbacks to her own childhood sneaking out here.
At the same time, Kendra also gets flashbacks. Of course, she was also at BJ banana fingers a lot as a kid, but on this particular day, she was a guest for another child’s birthday party. She was going down a slide and then looking for her friends who had run off, when she saw a baby crawling up to her. Yoshi. She’s like ”?? Who left their baby in the big kids play center?” - At that point, Shira sees her and runs up, telling her that it’s her brother. Baby comes up after her, and admits that they actually they let him out on purpose just for shits and giggles, and Kendra is like ”that’s just dangerous and bad!!”. Baby rolls her eyes and thinks Kendra is a nagging goody two-shoes who lectures her about letting out a baby in a crowd of people.
Soon, Naomi and Elliot comes up, stressed. To avoid getting in trouble, Baby claims it was Shira who opened the door. Naomi immediately starts yelling at Shira for letting out Yoshi and Shira looks down on the ground, taking it. Kendra sees this, and having already gotten bad vibes from Baby, just goes ”No ma’m, that girl was the one who opened the door. Your daughter was trying to be a good sister and saving her brother from danger. That’s why she ran off!”
Naomi immediately changes her mind, praises Shira for being so good and also tells Baby that she’s gonna talk to her parents about this. As they head back, Shira turns to Kendra and mouths a ”thank you”.
Cut back to adulthood, the moms find the twins who had found a secluded little space in the play area and realized how they didn’t like celebrating birthdays without each other. All is well.
Basically, I like the idea of Kendra and Shira meeting sometime when they both were little, but while both remember the event, they do not click that it might have been each other that they met.
I also like the idea of Shira’s two love interests meeting and Kendra immediately being like ”this girl is bad vibes and Shira shouldn’t be friends with her” and Naomi liking Kendra even before she knew who she was.
Also, at some point in the flashback someone needs to wipe Yoshi’s pacifier on their shirt. Just for the gag.
