Kenji and Alex go Christmas shopping for their mothers.
Kenji is nervous and keeps holding stuff out to Alex, asking if Rochelle would like it.
And she tells him that Rochelle adores his silly little self and he could give her anything and she’d love it.
“Yeah, but she’s your mom. It shouldn’t be just anything.”
“Always looking to impress, huh?”
“Only when it’s you... or you know, people you love, too. Heh.”
He earns a kiss for that and he smiles at her shortly before turning around and shoving yet another item in her face, “What about this one?”
Kenji gives Alex a gift from Meiko.
She apparently got Alex some of her special tea that she likes to drink around the holidays only.
Kenji tells her it’s a big BIG deal. A giant seal of approval right there.
“Even I don’t get any of this,” he tells Alex.
“Aww, poor Kenji. But you do get all of this,” she says wrapping her arms around his neck, kissing him softly, almost teasingly so.
“Mmm,” he hums, eyeing her up and down, “that’s a good trade-off.”
They decide to set up decorations at Alex’s place.
Alex comes home late in the afternoon to find that Kenji had finished setting everything up.
She jumps and spills the coffee she’s holding when the Christmas tree springs to life.
Kenji apparently thought it was funny to go Talos and turn into the damn tree.
He even draped all the ornaments and lights on himself.
He bursts out laughing and apologizing at the same time for the spilled coffee.
“If it makes up for it, here’s your gift.” And he hands her a beautiful box that holds this necklace with a tiny piece of Prism crystal.
“Is this... Dax would kill you.”
“Ehh, I figured these things usually have your birthstone and well, you’re not exactly... you know. It’s supposedly “dead” anyway, no freaky powers from it anymore. And well, it’s the whole reason we met and everything,” he’s babbling now, looking everywhere else but at Alex and scratching the back of his head.
She laughs and kisses him tenderly, “Thank you, I love it. Put it on for me?”
And he obliges, kissing his way up the side of her neck up to the sweet spot behind her ear.
She gives him a gift too. His face lights up when she pulls it out of a bag: it’s a custom-made tree topper made to look like Talos, with tattoos that light up.
“Alex, this is the best thing ever!” and he puts it up on the actual tree and immediately takes a picture to post on IG.
They go out for the evening. There’s of course, a party at The Grand on Christmas Eve
Kenji walks around, being a host, greeting people, giving speeches and entertaining guests
He’s also dressed up in red and white for the holidays, with his favorite mustard shirt nowhere in sight.
Eva and Dax make a joke about it when Kenji walks over to their booth
Something about him being dressed up as a candy cane instead of a hotdog. “It’s a huge upgrade, Tin Man,” Eva says with a wink. Dax snickers in his corner.
“Oh, laughs from the scientist who dresses like a carrot,” Kenji retorts.
“Hey!”
“Told you, babe, you look better in other colors,” Alex teases.
“You make jokes, but that only tells me you think of eating when you look at me,” Kenji says, adjusting the collar of his jacket and shooting a wink at Alex.
Kenji brings around mistletoe to kiss Alex whenever
He just pulls it out and holds it over their head and he gives her that silly little smirk.
He doesn’t need it of course she would kiss him whenever he wanted.
Everyone groans because they do it even when they’re all in a booth together.

Eva and Poppy prepared sweater gifts.
Poppy’s are modern and fashionable, stuff she gets from work.
Eva’s are the homey kind, custom made for each member of the team.
“You.. knit?” Alex asks Eva.
“Yeah? So? It’s fun, plus I got lots of time to kill when I visit my dad. He loves them, too.”
“Aww, that’s so sweet!” Poppy chimes in.
“Sweet, indeed,” Kenji lets out a whistle of appreciation, “did you knit Talos on mine?”
And his eyes are wide, jaw dropped, like a child who just opened his gift to find that toy he’s been asking for months now.
He prepared punny holiday spins on those Hero drinks he serves at The Grand
“I Saw Mommy Kissing San-Talos” and “Let it Slow, Let it Slow, Let it Slow.”
They all tell him those are horrible
But then they try the drinks and they’re pretty damn good
They all get realllly drunk and end up going on a drunken caroling spree at Alex’s apartment building. Eva, Kenji, and Poppy were especially into all the singing.
When everyone’s had enough, they go home, but Kenji takes Alex somewhere else.
He takes her out to their usual spot looking over Northbridge
He holds her close as she marvels at the sight
Because instead of the usual building lights, she sees a myriad of colors in green, red, blue, yellow, and white.
The city is twinkling with holiday spirit and she absolutely loves it.
They drink a bit more and laugh and kiss.
It all ends up back at Alex’s place of course.
There may be some drunken, silly, giggly sex involving Kenji insisting on wearing a Santa hat during. LOL
On Christmas Day Alex wakes up to Kenji making hot chocolate.
The man is a drink expert let me tell you; alcohol, tea, hot chocolate... 12/10!
They have lunch with Meiko and Rochelle.
Rochelle brings in a bunch of cookies and Kenji charms and flatters her.
She falls for it of course. Meiko shakes her head, but is smiling, too. It’s nice to see everyone get along.
Speaking of, Meiko and Rochelle get along pretty well.
It devolves into them teasing their children with embarrassing childhood stories.
On the way home, Alex gets excited when she sees it’s snowing outside. She LOVES the snow.
And Kenji is smiling at her instead of the view, because she’s crazy adorable like this.
He holds his hand out to her and she stares at him.
“Well? Let’s go!”
They have snowball fights and lay around. Just enjoying the rest of their Christmas day.
They’re both lying in the snow staring up at the sky. Alex is holding Kenji’s hand. He steals glances at her with her lips so red and her eyes twinkling with happiness at the sight of snow.
This was sent as a fic suggestion by @starlightlokitty (it won’t tag you) for Christmas HCs with Kenji, Alex, and their daughter, but my silly brain went into HC mode and made all of these. Hope you like them!
Note: Their daughter’s name is Lia. I picture her to be around 4 or 5 here? And I just HC Kenji to be a huge dorky, funny dad so… yeah :))
Kenji, Alex, and Lia work together to prepare for the holidays.
They’re hosting this year.
Because Kenji is always the host, even when it’s not at The Grand.
Lia riding on Kenji’s shoulders as they go Christmas shopping with Alex.
He’s looking at some items on a shelf and picks out two of the same thing.
“Which one do you think grandma would like?” he says, holding them up to Lia.
And she scratches her chin in an exaggerated way she sees her dad do often, thinking very carefully.
Alex is a few feet away from them chuckling to herself.
Because her daughter is adorable, and it’s uncanny how this silly little girl is such a replica of her father.
“This one!” she announces, pointing to the one Kenji and Alex know is the wrong choice.
“Great pick, Little Hero!” And they get it anyway because Lia is too cute and happy about being the one who chose her grandma’s gift.
At home Kenji decorates the tree with his daughter, picking her up and setting her on his shoulders so she can reach the higher parts and put the topper on.
Lia is going crazy with the decor. One side on the lower half of the tree is drooping with Christmas balls and tangled among a string of lights.
Kenji just laughs because he thinks it’s adorable how proud she is of her work.
A typical father-daughter conversation while decorating:
Kenji: “Who do you like better, Little Hero: Santa, or Talos?”
Lia: “Hmm… Santa!”
Kenji, very dramatically: “Whaaaat”
Lia giggling uncontrollably because Kenji started tickling her into submission.
Alex is baking cookies in the kitchen.
Lia and Kenji take breaks from their decorating to help her out.
Kenji brings over mistletoe with him and holds it up over his head as he approaches Alex.
And he just smirks at her, waggling those eyebrows and leans in for a kiss. Alex returns it, smiling against his lips.
“Ewwww,” they hear Lia groan beside them, “Dad, what is that?”
“It’s mistletoe. If you and another person stand under it, you have to kiss. Like this.”
He holds it up again and kisses Alex, peering at their daughter to see her reactions.
And Lia brings over another one, holding it up as high as she can between her and Alex while standing on her toes.
Alex laughs and picks her up to place a kiss on her little nose.
Kenji makes another dramatically offended face, “Excuse me? What about me? Best dad in the world?”
Lia has that mischievous smile on her face as she ponders for a moment whether she should tease her dad or not.
But she goes to him and holds the mistletoe up.
And in that instant, he lifts her up and spins her around, planting tons of kisses all over her face and stomach as she cries out, almost in tears from being tickled too much.
When they actually get to baking, there’s a special batch made just by Lia
With a bunch of misshapen cookies
“What’s this one?” Alex asks
“It’s Talos, mommy!”
“Perfect!” Kenji exclaims, taking a photo of the cookie blob that has no shape whatsoever.
Because the man is a fool for his daughter and stops at nothing to boost her ego and make her feel special.
Alex just watches them both and her heart is happy. She knew Kenji would be a great dad, but this far exceeded her expectations.
Kenji and Lia leave Alex to finish up and they continue decorating the tree and around the house.
Alex laughs to herself because she can hear them fooling around.
Holiday music plays loudly in the house.
But she hears Kenji and Lia singing at the top of their lungs, lyrics wrong, and almost screeching.
Kenji dances with his daughter as they go around the house, twirling her to the jolly music, draping Christmas lights or a wreath around her shoulders.
There’s a minor incident where Lia finds the gifts they had locked away.
“Hey!” Kenji yells, grabbing the gifts before she can open them.
“How did she… did she pick the lock?” Alex asks.
“You just have to wait till a little later, okay?” Kenji tells Lia, “besides, if you’re a good girl, grandma’s gonna give you Christmas money so you can buy more gifts for yourself.”
“But aunt Eva says we don’t really have to pay for things.”
And Kenji and Alex share a look.
“Remind me to have a talk with her when she gets here later,” Alex says, fuming at the thought of a certain ex-thief.
They come back to the kitchen when they’re done.
Kenji is carrying a giant red bag over his shoulders.
“A gift for you, Mrs. Katsaros,” he says as he lifts the bag off his shoulders, opening it with flair and big hand gestures.
But the bag is moving and they can hear giggling.
“Oooh I wonder what it could be,” Alex says playing along.
Lia pops out of the bag yelling, “Surprise!”
And Kenji covers his mouth in “shock”
“Oh no, it seems the gift I had for you, darling, turned into this… this silly little girl!”
The three of the laugh at that and Alex leans down to hug her daughter for being adorable as usual.
Alex helps Lia get dressed for the dinner.
She puts her in a gorgeous little dress from Poppy and Dax that fits perfectly into the holiday theme.
Alex whispers to her to go show her dad.
Lia excitedly runs into the living room and holds her arms out to present herself with a “Ta-da!”
And Kenji yet again exaggerates, but he genuinely is surprised to see how beautiful his daughter is.
“You’re so pretty! You’re the prettiest, Little Hero. It used to be your mom, but now it’s you!”
“You’re lucky I agree with you, Kenj.”
“Okay, but do you know why Lia’s prettier?”
“Something tells me I don’t want to, but okay. Why?“
“Lia, you wanna tell mom?”
“Cause I look like daddy!”
“That’s my girl!”
“You’re ridiculous.” Alex rolls her eyes, but she’s smiling. She wonders to herself how her husband has their daughter trained like this.
Kenji gets up and approaches his wife.
“Buuuut?” he prompts, leaning in close.
“But I love you,” she says, the words tumbling out of her mouth. Apparently he’s got her a little trained, too.
“That’s my girl,” he says again, this time the cocky smile replaced with a warm one, his eyes gentle, settling on hers.
“I love you, too,” he whispers, leaning in for a tender kiss.

Kenji! There are fics that show my two possible headcanons for this. One is either he goes all out and does a really romantic gesture. The other is that he blurts it out in a quiet moment together with Alex because he’s looking at her and just realizes he wants her for the rest of his life.

I feel like they both get a little iffy, but not too badly. They just side eye the person flirting with the other hard. Kenji would insert himself in the situation by putting his hand on her hip then introduce himself to the person flirting with Alex.

Kenji. Definitely. He gets creative and has no limits for himself.

Kenji. Kenji loves tea.

Alex on the other hand, sometimes thinks Kenji is too good a man to deserve having to deal with the crazy stuff in her life. Like being an alien.

They both seem to be direct when they speak, but if anyone ever got petty in an argument to resort to passive-aggressive talk, it might be Alex. Kenji usually just walks off to cool down if he gets too riled up.

Kenji. There were a few times when he got hurt before he could change into Talos, so those wounds stayed.

Alex. Especially after her time in the Prism world. She has trouble reconciling the events of the Battle of Northbridge, as well as everything she saw in her alien world.

Random Kenji HC where sometimes when he's sick his powers go a little haywire so like he sneezes and bronze ripples throughout his body. Or one limb turns bronze and stays that way and he has to quickly change back and it annoys him so much.
And Alex has to force him to stay inside "bc you can't keep turning into Talos for 2 seconds every time you sneeze!"

They don’t really put too much pressure on each other to celebrate, but they love doing things for the other when they’ve got the time to plan something. Kenji, being flashy and extra as usual will always try some sort of gesture.
11. When did they each know that they wanted to be with the other person?
I headcanon that they realize it in some mundane moment together during that annoying time jump between the week they meet and the opening of the Grand months later. Like if you’ve read my fics, it’s them spending time together, then realizing that hey, I don’t really want this to just be some casual thing anymore.

Initial reactions:
Everyone is staring up at the sky, wide-eyed and in disbelief. This can’t be happening, is what they’re all thinking.
Kenji stands there almost frozen to the spot, his eyes darting across the sky, frantically searching for any sign of movement, for Alex.
“Do you see her?”
But his question falls on deaf ears. Everyone is still reeling from the explosion.
Eva is in a state of worry and panic after the reality starts to sink in that Alex was up there where the explosion occurred and that she might be…
“Kenji, where is she? What if she doesn’t come back? You don’t think she… She can’t!”
And tears are welling up in her eyes as she frantically turns to Kenji for answers, who’s still frozen in a daze, his glowing eyes fixed to the sky.
Poppy is absolutely devastated.
The moment the explosion occurred, her hand clasped over her mouth and tears invaded her vision as she stumbled backwards from the monitors, barely managing to keep herself from tripping over the coffee table behind her.
And she sits on the couches bawling, because that was her best friend up there.
Dax stares at the monitors, his mouth ajar in disbelief. Is he seeing things? Is the video feed… wrong?
Walking away:
When the dust settles and reality sinks in, Dax speaks up.
“Guys,” he says tentatively, “we have to go.”
And Poppy is standing beside him, eyes swollen, just staring blankly at the screen, worry and fear warring in her heart.
It’s been an hour or so, Meiko and the police have come and gone to thank them, to start the cleanup, but Kenji wouldn’t budge from his spot or turn to his mother.
He’s been standing there silent, still searching and waiting for Alex to come from the sky, land in front of him and smile, “Miss me?”
Eva is wiping away tears that she was trying to hide, and after Dax presses the issue, she walks over to Kenji and urges him to leave.
“Kenji, let’s go.”
“No.”
“Kenji…”
“I’m not leaving her, Eva. I’ll be fine.”
“But–”
“I said no. What if I leave and she comes down from the sky and I’m not here?” he turns to look at Eva with those last words, wincing from the pain in his neck. “I should be here.”
“Kenji, she’s not there. She might have ended up somewhere else, or is looking for us right now. And if not, Dax could find a way to help her and look for her at the tower. We can’t stay here any longer.”
After a few moments of tense silence, Kenji turns on his heel and brushes past Eva, leaving the scene. She follows him.
That night:
Kenji is in his dojo punching things in silence. He likes to exercise when he’s angry, says it burns off the extra energy.
But all the rage and guilt and helplessness build up inside him.
And he punches a dummy a little too hard that its head snaps off and breaks apart.
He slumps down onto the floor and leans against the wall.
Eva stays with him. She doesn’t want to be alone. And she thinks he needs someone to watch over him.
And she’s right. He catches the whole dummy-smashing scene in time.
“Damn.”
Kenji barely acknowledges her presence.
She walks over to a counter near the corner and sets down a bag of drinks.
“Ok, Tinman, you’re not gonna sit there breaking all this expensive shit. Let’s cope with this like adults!” she says giddily as she pulls out a couple of beers from the bag.
Kenji smirks halfheartedly at the attempt and takes the beer.
He forms his hand into a bottle opener and pops the cap off with ease, chugging nearly half the drink in one go.
Eva tries to make him crack a smile, even though she can barely manage one herself. She liked Kenji and his cocky little jokes. It’s weird seeing him so down, but nothing really works.
The night descends into them just quietly drinking as they lean against the walls of the dojo.
Eva is staring at a selfie Alex took of them on their first night out at a bar. “To new friends and teammates!” she recalls Alex’s toast.
She recalls the other time Alex disappeared, when she hid herself in her apartment after finding out about her true origins.
Eva remembered how mad she was that Alex disappeared. First real friend in years and she just… took off.
“These diamonds are awfully valuable, Alex.. what’s in it for me, huh?”
“How about a promise that I won’t disappear again.”
“Hmm, yes I think that’ll do, but remember, a promise is a promise. Don’t go disappearing on me again… okay?”
She stares down at the photo and barely a whisper comes out, “You promised, Alex.”
Kenji’s on his third bottle already. And Eva figures it might help to talk it out. She isn’t too good with these yet, but she has a few things she wants to talk about anyway.
“You know, she’s the first… friend, I’d had in a long, long time. She’s amazing. I miss her already,” Eva says barely managing to keep her voice from shaking near the end.
“Did she ever tell you what she did for me? How she helped me back on my feet? Stop stealing? Help my dad the right way?”
Kenji shakes his head no, staring into the distance, but his head turned towards her, listening.
“I don’t know what I’d be doing now if it weren’t for her. Maybe I’d be some other lowlife and you’d have punched me in the face with your giant shield hands,” she says with a smirk.
No reaction from Kenji, just a small scoff.
Eva keeps trying.
“Yknow, I’ve been wondering, you use those bronze shapeshifting powers for naughty things? By yourself? I bet– “
And Kenji glares at her, warning her not to finish that sentence and Eva raises her hands in surrender, “Alright, alright, just a joke.”
After a long silence Kenji speaks up.
“I’d just asked her if she wanted to… if she wanted to take things seriously.”
“What?” Eva’s caught off guard by the sound of his voice.
Kenji swallows hard. He’s not used to saying the word. And it hurts him that the first time he’ll say it is with Alex gone.
“I asked her to be my girlfriend. She’s… she’s my girlfriend… or was, I dunno.” He says taking a long drink from his bottle.
“Ok I see it now,” Eva teases.
“See what?”
“What she finds so charming about your smug ass. She’s a lucky girl, Kenji. Is.”
And she smiles her first real smile that night when she sees Kenji crack a flustered grin.
“Thanks… sidekick.”
“Hey!”
They share a good laugh at that. Silence slowly creeping up again as the moment passes.
“She’s not gone yet. She’s an alien, she doesn't die like us… right? And… I don’t know, I just… kind of feel it, y’know? We’ll find her, Kenji.”
Kenji picks up his phone and replies to a text from Dax asking to meet them both at the tower the next day.
His eye catches a glimpse of his phone wallpaper: A picture of him and Alex making silly faces.
“Yeah, we will,” he says, hope stirring within him as he looks down at the photo.
“Also,” Eva adds, “I’ll be damned if I have to put up with depressed Kenji all the time. He makes for shitty drinking company.”

1. How do they fall asleep? Wake up? Any daily rituals?
Half the time? After doing it. LOL
Ok but seriously, they’re either wrapped up in each other, limbs tangled, OR (because you know Kenji is a bed hog and spreads out all his limbs lol), they kind of roll over to their respective sides.
When Kenji wakes up first he likes to get up and cook for her if he has the time. On lazier days when he doesn’t want to get up just yet, his hands just wander across Alex’s body while he’s still half-asleep. This wakes Alex up and well, things just go from there.
Daily rituals, just a nice breakfast by Kenji and a nice cup of tea for him and coffee for Alex (lol credits to @violetflipflops whose tea and coffee hc is now canon for me)
5. Nicknames? Pet names? Any in-jokes?
They have names for each other when they’re sweet and when they’re teasing each other. Darling, babe are the usual, mutual ones. Kenji also likes to call Alex “hero” usually when they’re training or on the subject of their alter-egos.
When they’re poking fun at each other? She calls him Tin Man, Playboy, and Ta-Loser (when she gets competitive during sparring). He calls her Ass-teria in return cause she can be kind of an ass more than he is to her lol.
26. How do their friends feel about their relationship? Their families?
Their friends love them together honestly. Poppy especially loves seeing her best friend so happy, plus Kenji is hot and she loves sneaking little peeks of him shirtless whenever she’s visiting and he’s also staying at Alex’s. But they don’t let these two know. Instead, they always groan and complain at all the PDA, because THERE ARE NO BOUNDARIES these two are insatiable and often get lectured by Eva and Dax.
Meiko didn’t like Alex at first, but after that dinner together with Kenji she’s come to admire her, and often relies on her to keep an eye on her son. Rochelle on the other hand absolutely adores Kenji and fell for his charms. The boy knows how to flatter parents with compliments, gifts, and jokes.
33. What kind of presents do they get each other? Do they only do it on special occasions?
They get each other things on special occasions, though they don’t really expect it and there’s no pressure on the other if they don’t, because they usually get each other gifts a lot whenever the mood strikes them or they find something fitting.
They usually just give each other things they know the other will like. Alex often gives Kenji records and CDs she spots in stores while walking around with Poppy. Because I imagine Kenji to LOVE physical forms of music even though we have the internet. Or new shirts (because damn it Kenji, there are more colors than mustard lol). Oh and silly socks.
And Kenji buys her things she likes: pretty notebooks, simple jewelry, random boxes of sweets she’s never seen before.
36. What’s their greatest strength as a couple? Their weakness?
They’re a solid team in everything they do. They’re secure and comfortable enough around each other to make fun of one another like friends, but then are also comfortable looking to each other for help and comfort. They work well together both as Kenji and Alex, and as Talos and Asteria because they trust each other THAT MUCH and despite their little cocky and snarky tendencies, they know how to play as a team.
Their weakness might be their hesitating to talk about certain topics. They started out casual and this led to the habit of being shy and uncertain to talk about their relationship especially when it turns out one of them wants to move forward (hello awkward Kenji.) It usually sorts itself out because they do end up talking, but there are certain times it causes a lot of miscommunication and misunderstanding and someone gets hurt or it leads to an argument. This gets better after they get together though.
Another weakness might be each other, and this plays mostly into their hero lives. They usually work well together, but sometimes when the fight gets too intense and the other is under a lot of pressure, the other one will put themselves in danger to protect them. One of them is usually hurt in the process, and they tend to argue about each other’s safety or “I could’ve handled that!”
