Saturday night was my first post-vax taste of the world. A group of us went to the Kennedy School to experience @DJSwitchPDX spinning in public for the first time since before the pandemic. While being in a crowd of mostly maskless people still felt more than a bit iffy, especially given the Delta variant, it was incredible to be out among people. I've completely forgotten how to socialize like a human being (and I was never really the most socially skilled to begin with), but I fumbled my way through a delightful evening. I've also forgotten how to dance in public (and, again, wasn't exactly skilled to start), but I still danced my awkward-yet-attractive ass off. I've really needed this for a long time; to be able to see, hug, and dance with old friends and new is a necessity for the health of my soul and my sanity. Here's hoping I can keep getting enough in the coming days to at least get by. Last night, my friend @djswitchpdx had his first in-person, on-location DJ gig since before the pandemic. He played at the Mcmenamins Kennedy School in Portland as part of an event put on by PDXpelliarmus, the Portland branch of Fandom Forward. The night was nerdy, the company was cool, and of course the music was magnificent! It was a success all around! So McMenamin’s hosts an annual celebration for Tolkien’s birthday. The event is happening this year on Saturday January 12th at the Kennedy School. This year I will be part of a cool little team that will be teaching and playing Tolkien-themed board games from 11am-3pm that day. I’m very excited!
