I have a new hero.
This guy's name is Kenneth Brandon ("RedKB"). I love his quote, "Solving the 17 by 17 isn't that hard, but it is very, very tedious." I believe that.
I learned how to solve a 3x3, and a 5x5 while I was deployed to Aghanistan. I then taught myself how to solve a 7x7 (which took me about as long as it took this guy to solve the 17x17), because what he says is true, if you know how to solve a 5x5, any larger odd-numbered cubes are exactly the same (though taking exponentiallly longer) to solve, at least using the "reduction method" he mentions. I don't know what other method would be used, but that is the one I learned with, anyway, so it's the one that makes sense to me. I can imagine that any other method would take much longer.
