I can confidently say that today was the BEST day of my entire life!!!
The Nicholson family is really the NICEST family I've ever met. I've known them since I was a little girl, but we've grown so much closer since Colby and I began our courtship. When they heard about the big fussy party my parents were throwing for Charlotte (and me, I guess), they invited me to celebrate my 18th birthday with them instead. While I was there, I was blessed (once more) to feel and see the love they have for each other and God. Colby's the middle child and he gets along so well with both his siblings--he was even in his older sister's wedding last year.
If that wasn't enough, Cara (Colby's sister) and Mrs. Nicholson are such inspirations as Christian women. They're so warm, and tenderhearted, and devoted to their husbands. (Rather than devoting their lives to material things, or attention outside of the home.) I helped Cara and Mrs. Nicholson to prepare lunch and all morning they were cracking jokes about Colby's expectations for our home and promising to give me the recipes for all his favorite foods. At the time I didn't quite understand what they were talking about, but after cake...
Colby proposed!!! Officially!!! He said he wanted to do it in front of his family because soon they'll be my family, too. Can you believe it?!
Later, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson pulled us aside. They shared that Colby had approached them a few months ago, asking for their wisdom. He wanted to propose as soon as I turned 18, but he was concerned about his ability to provide. He's still in school, after all, and only working part time. On the other hand, he was so excited(!!!) to marry me and thought a long courtship and/or engagement would be unwise. So Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson suggested a compromise: we should marry when we want, and then live with them after the wedding--both to save money, and to deepen our bond as a family. Colby was all for it! And as soon as I heard it, I got on board. The Nicholsons are truly so lovely and I trust Colby to make the right decisions for our new family.
If we're lucky, the Lord could bless us with a honeymoon baby, and then our firstborn would have the blessing of being raised alongside his or her grandmother, grandfather and uncle! (Cara and Randy live about twenty minutes away, so they would also be around plenty!)
Because of how long we've known each other--years and years even before we began courting--I think getting married quickly would be the best course of action, and Colby agrees with me. We want to avoid the temptation to sin, and besides, why wait to start the rest of our lives? We shared this with Colby's family, and after a group prayer for the sanctity of myself and Colby’s partnership in the time between the proposal and marriage, I got sucked into early wedding planning with Cara and Mrs. Nicholson for the rest of the day!!
(AN: Not sure why the guys' eyes are open in that last photo, but I'm guessing it has to do with that glitch that still hasn't been fixed. Apologies! We can just pretend they haven't closed their eyes because men are more worthy of witnessing God than women are, or something 🙃 And as for all those sinful knees showing...I have no excuse lol. Let's just say the Nicholsons are slightly looser when it comes to modesty standards.)
