Hinata Shoyou was really good at following routines, he woke up every morning at sunrise, he got dressed brushed his teeth, looked at his partner sleep soundly and went to the kitchen to get breakfast because, even if Shoyou was a morning person and affronted every day with an energetic smile, Sakusa Kiyoomi was a /sleeper/. Kiyoomi loved routine but hated waking up early, he loved enjoying his sleep begging for those magical five more minutes cuddled with his partner. Kiyoomi didn’t have the strength to wake up before noon and Shoyou didn’t have it in him to wake him up either. 

It was especially sad because their schedules didn’t really fit each other's, unless it was the weekend so they had to make do with late night hours they spent together in which Shoyou always fell asleep earlier than he meant to. 

They still made it work, Shoyou loved Kiyoomi more than anything and he could feel that same love coming back to him. They just had to manage their routines a little bit. 

Eventually they made it happen, they started waking up together, laughing at breakfast and then going together on their morning run. 

“Good morning boy!” Shoyou said to Kane, a six months old labrador that made his way into their family after Kiyoomi found him on the streets and who happened to be the very same thing that fixed their morning issues. He rubbed the pup’s ears, Kane wiggling his tail in excitement. “Who’s a good boy? Who wants breakfast?” 

He filled Kane’s food and water bowl and made his way back to the kitchen, he prepared coffee, pancakes and some fruit. He mixed the batter while he fried some bacon on a pan. The smell was strong enough to distract Kane from his own food and he came back running to Shoyou, begging for a piece which he couldn’t deny. Once the dog had finished eating and Shoyou had finished making the food he called Kane. 

“Come here boy,” he said at the bedroom door, one hand on the door handle. “Ready to wake up dad?” The dog barked in agreement and Shoyou laughed, opening the door. 

Kane jumped on the bed, all over Kiyoomi who was startled awake at the attack. Shoyou could hear him laugh, the puppy all over him licking and nuzzling him. 

“I get it, I get it. It’s late already.” Kiyoomi looked up and saw Shoyou leaning on the door frame. “Good morning love,” he said and Shoyou smiled an even brighter smile, a faint blush covering his cheeks. 

“Good morning baby,” Shoyou said back. “Breakfast’s ready.”

Kiyoomi stood up and ran to the bathroom away from his attacker before going into the kitchen with them. They ate together, smiling and laughing and so very in love. Kiyoomi sneaked a few treats for Kane because he was weak for their child and Shoyou ignored it in favour of keeping the peace.

After they finished eating they got ready for their morning run with their overexcited puppy. Shoyou and Kiyoomi might have non compatible routines but Kane had made it so Kiyoomi would give up on his precious sleep. Shoyou couldn’t be happier now that they shared these little family moments and he couldn’t wait to see what the future held for them.
