He was so distracted by his pain that Kennichi very nearly got struck again. The demon-boy was forcing him back with each sword-swing. Kennichi bared his teeth, snarling, the breath burning in his lungs. He was not watching where he was going, and Kennichi staggered backward, his foot twisting in the hole created by the last blast. Kennichi winced, his eyes closed and waiting for the blow. However, the sound of metal ringing off of metal made him open his eyes quickly. Kenshin stood between them. He had caught the downward strike with his sword, the reverse-blade braced in his left palm and blood already running down his arm. He did not even seem to be breathing hard, despite the fact that he probably had to sprint the entire distance from the inn. The demon-boy was surprised enough by Kenshin’s appearance that Kenshin was able to force back his blade. He took a few steps back, the blue flame not diminishing in the slightest. He glanced at Kennichi, then to Kenshin. Then he glanced over his shoulder and called out. “Yukio!” “Your friend’s not coming,” Kenshin said shortly. “He’s preoccupied with MY friends.” Kenshin let the blade of the sakabatou up off of his hand, holding the sword loosely in his free hand before settling into a familiar stance. “So,” Kenshin said, his eyes narrow. “Let’s dance.”
