No, It's Right! - Kenpachi Zaraki
♡ Having a picnic and Kenpachi and Yachriu end up a little lost so you help them find their way back to you!! ♡
sfw, any!pov, directionally challenged kenny, yachiru!! very very fluff...it's been almost two months since i've had motivation so hopefully i'll be back :3
♡---------------------------------♡
A picnic in The World of the Living. It had been your idea, a way to get away from the stresses and constant demands that being in the Gotei 13 put on both you and Kenpachi. And, with being one of his squad members, you knew exactly what that meant for the Captain.
And, well, a nice picnic under the sun and by the water didn't sound like a bad way to relax.
You settle down further onto the blanket beneath you, glancing down at your phone. Ichigo Kurosaki had the brilliant idea of introducing many of the Captains to human technology, and although Kenpachi didn't exactly like it, they deemed quite useful.
You look at the time and frown. He's 15 minutes late. And that only means one thing.
He's lost.
You let out a heavy sigh, glancing at the picnic basket that was stuffed with yummy food and things you would all like, including Yachiru's favorite cake. There was also a nice bottle of sake you had brought for you and Kenpachi to share that was now getting warm.
I guess you have to help them out a bit.
You dial Kenpachi's number (only about one of three on the strange device) and listen to it ring before he pick up, his gruff and annoyed voice carrying through the speaker. "Yes?"
You can't help the smile that creeps to your lips as you sigh. "Kenpachi, where are you?"
Kenpachi, on the other side of the phone, looks around at his location. Y/N had told him to meet them at some sort of clearing with water. Whatever that means. But, as he looks at the bustling people in the, what seems to be some sort of shopping area, giving the very big man with a girl on his shoulder odd looks he guesses he's not in the right place.
They don't need to know that.
"We're here." He grumbles, continuing to walk through the area. "Where are you?"
For a second you pause and look around, wondering if he really was around, but when you see nothing but a squirrel running through the grass, you know that's not true.
"No. you're not here." You say simply.
Kenpachi grumbles and looks around. "We're in the right place. I traced my steps back to where you were."
You furrow your eyebrows. The senkaimon opened in an area near the stream, but Kenpachi and Yachiru somehow managed to split from you before you got there. You assume she got distracted and Kenpachi followed after her. At least he always makes sure she's okay.
"Kenpachi..." You say slowly, in a way that prompts him to listen. "Babe, you didn't."
"I did." He says again more insistently.
"Yachiru..?"
"He did! Kenny went in the right direction." She pipes up eagerly, her voice carrying easily.
Okay, so he didn't.
You straighten up a bit more, your fingers playing with the grass. "Okay, okay, where are you right now?"
Kenny is quite for a second as a group of younger people gawk at him in the middle of the street. "In some sort of market or whatever."
"And...you thought that was 'here'? When we're supposed to be at a stream..."
Kenpachi is about to grumble out an answer before he passes a stand selling fruits that catches his eyes, and he stops. Yachiru peeks over his shoulder and points at the shiny green fruit. "Doesn't Y/N like those?"
Kenpachi nods. "Hold on, sweetheart." He grumbles on the phone and you blink, a bit confused. Kenpachi walks up to the vendor and pauses, his towering height making the poor man shrink just a little. His gigai was quite accurate.
"Four of those." He says, pointing to the large granny smith apples in the stand. "An extra for Y/N!" Yachriu smiles and Kenpachi nods.
The vendor hands Kenpachi a bag and he picks four apples that seem suitable enough before nodding and turning away. "Oh, um, sir you have to pay for those-"
Kenpachi turns to look over at the man, his eyes glowering and his scar curling ever so slightly. The man decides not to pus further.
"Okay, sorry, I got something for you." Kenpachi says back into the phone, as if nothing happened. "Some apples, the green ones. I know you like them."
You smile softly to yourself, feeling the cool breeze from the water blow over your skin. "Thank you, Kenny." You say softly, and on the other side of the phone, his lips curl into a small smile, the kind that makes his face look less hardened and sweet.
You sigh and decide to rack your brain, focusing back on the task at hand. You know the area pretty well, and you had passed by the small market area more than a few times on your patrols.
"Okay, so, do you see that one really big tree? It should be west of you." You point out.
Kenpachi and Yachiru look at each other. "I think it's that way!" Yachiru decides and points straight ahead. You look at the sky, it's around noon. "It should be to you're right."
They both look the way you said and see a tall Oak tree. "Okay, I see it." They walk towards it and when they reach it, Kenpachi answers. "We're here. What now?"
"Okay, then, you're going to keep walking straight into the woody area. Then, not long after, you should reach a clear split on the path. There's no signs, but, go left." You explain, hoping he understood.
Kenpachi begins his walk and nods. "Okay." The soft buzz of insects and chirping of birds fill his ears as he moves through the springtime air. When you had suggested this picnic, he wasn't vey keen on doing it, but you were excited about it. And you just looked so cute when you asked him... Once Yachiru wanted to do it as well? He knew he was done for.
After a while, he and Yachiru reach a split in the road. Kenpachi turns to go left but pauses. He looks to the path that goes to the right, then back again. "Left doesn't look right."
You, who had been passively listening and began to munch on some crackers, pause and swallow. "Huh?"
"The left path doesn't look right." He says again. "I think it's the wrong way."
You sigh. "What in the world are you talking about?"
"Did you not hear me? It's not right."
"Yes it is. I'm better at directions, Kenny. I know what I told you."
"It doesn't look right, though. My senses are telling me something different. It's not right."
"Yes, it is."
"No, it isn't."
"Because it's left!" Yachiru pipes in.
You groan, now officially annoyed by your directionally challenged and stubborn boyfriend. "Okay, you know what, just stay there. I'm gonna come get you guys."
You get up off the blanket and hurry off in the direction where you were hoping (if they had followed your directions) they were. You were starting to get hungry, and there were at least three more steps of instruction to get them to the small clearing.
And you were not trying to do all that.
After a while, you emerge from the left path to see Kenpachi and Yachiru standing right where you left them, thank goodness! "There you guys are. You're a handful."
You walk up to Kenpachi and Yachiru hops of his shoulder to stand in front of you. "Y/N! Kenny sucks at directions. He got us lost."
You laugh, reaching down to pick her up. "Up you go! I know, Yachi, he's terrible." You tease and put her on your shoulders. She likes to ride up there.
Kenpachi looks at you and grumbles. "I'm the strongest. I'm good at everything."
You laugh and walk towards him, grinning. "Yeah, well, you're not so strong at navigating places."
"Pft, whatever." He rolls his eyes before leaning down to press a soft kiss to your lips and Yachiru makes a sound above you. "I made it to the spot, didn't I?"
"No, actually, you didn't." You grin. "But that's okay. Maybe next time?"
"Shut up." He says, but there's a small smile on his face as he reaches out to grab your hand. "Let's just go eat, I'm hungry."
And he leads along down the path before you tug on his hand, pulling his body towards the left path, laughing as he grumbles in annoyance. "This way, my love."
"Can't leave anywhere alone, huh?" You tease, and even though he's slightly annoyed you always show up to lead the way, he's happy you do.
Every time he sees you smile, it's worth it. Even if it is at his own, directionally challenged expense.
"It’s raining and all reader wants is cuddles" with Kenpachi 🙏
Hear me out! Valentine’s Day 2025 Event!
Soft Kenpachi fluff.
Warning: Fluff with size difference. Weird poetic ending. Also tagging @r473n just because i wrote this for you too 🥹
Heavy rain meant nothing to Kenpachi. He preferred to fight or stroll out when the skies were grey and chaotic. The sharp crashing thunder was a humble reminder of his distant gruesome past.
You on the other hand refuse to step out of your small modest hut. Your plans were to simply lounge around in your comfortable indoor clothes and you wanted nothing to do with the rain. It was cold and damp and made your skin all pruney.
You sat on your small couch all cozied up under a blanket and glanced out the small window. You sipped on some hot tea while watching your man slice through the air. It almost appeared like he was aiming and slicing through the raindrops. He looked frustrated. His strongest of men had betrayed him as they ran off to take shelter from the torrential rainfall.
“A bunch of wimps scared of the damn rain!”, he mumbled and grumbled as he walked inside, all drenched. Suddenly your small cozy hut grew even smaller, shrinking in proportion to his larger frame as he took up most of the space.
He headed straight for the bedroom for a quick change of clothes. A few minutes later he walked back out wearing only black hakama pants and a towel draped across his shoulders, soaking up the water that dripped from each strand of his thick black hair. Screaming sexy!
“Hey, sometimes the rain can be a romantic time to slow down and just cuddle with your beloved”. You pat the cushioned seat beside you.
“Or a damn excuse to be lazy. Ya know I'm not talking about you?”
The couch suddenly shifted, lifting your side up as he settled down next to you, taking up most of the space. You offer him your small blanket and it only covers one of his large thighs. You lift up his heavy arm and have him drape across your shoulder so you can cuddle up against his side. He was cold. Seeing how the blanket wasn't big enough for both, you wrapped him up with your warmth and slowly slid onto his lap.
“Didn’t realize time slows down when you just sit around and do nothing. I mean I ain't complaining. I actually like it.”
“Was our house really this small?”
“You smell good.”
“Is this your natural hair color”
“You have a small pimple behind your ear”.
“Shhhh!”
“Well….”
“Kenpachi! Just relax and listen to the rain. It's so soothing”.
“I would try to enjoy that but…”
“But what….?”
“You're sitting on my nuts”.
“Sorry!” You readjust, finding it hard to find the right spot because gosh he was big in all the right places.
You grab a book from the tiny side table and begin reading while leaning back against his broad muscular chest. You could feel his breath grow heavy and slow against your shoulder blades. You quietly flipped through the pages, the rain slowly starting to let up and you glance up to look at your giant.
He had dozed off, finding comfort in the silence, selfishly taking comfort in your warmth as you grabbed him by the heart and pulled him out of his bloody gruesome past. You repainted his memories, replacing the crimson red with bright colorful strokes. What he once desired was no longer desired. What he never desired had wrapped up his soul.

“Remember, Kenny, you need to be gentle when you’re carving your pumpkin. We don’t have time to get replacements.”
“Yeah, yeah. Hand me my sword.”
You put your hands on your hips, looking down at your boyfriend with a deadpan expression challenging his own. While the pumpkin he’d picked from the Human World was proportionate to his size, the tools you’d spread out on the table to use for carving were admittedly far too small for someone with hands as large as his. You expected him to ask for his sword, but you didn’t expect Yachiru to bounce up onto the low table holding his sheathed zanpakuto. He gleefully snatched it from her and his smile dropped when you lunged for it, nearly falling onto the table.
“Back off, woman.” He leaned back from you when you sat across from him. “I’m not usin’ those things, Yachiru is.”
The little girl beamed at you from where she sat on her heels beside Kenpachi. Her pumpkin was bigger than her head, but you had no doubt in her ability to carve it–she was deceptively strong.
“Don’t worry, we can share them, Pancake!”
You chuckled at her nickname for you–coined after you made pancakes the morning after your first night with Kenpchi. “Thanks, Yachiru. Can you convince Kenny to put his damn zanpakuto down?”
“Nah, not a chance,” he grumbled, turning the pumpkin around and plotting how he’d slice it up.
Your head flopped back and you groaned. “If I get you a kitchen knife, will you use that?”
The wind rustled and you heard something fall to the grass. “Fine.”
Without further ado, you jumped up and dashed back inside, grabbed a few of the sheathed back-up kitchen knives, then used shunpo to get back to Kenny’s side and drop the knives in his lap. You and Yachiru each picked a thin serrated tool; you pretended not to notice Kenny switch out his original pick with a serrated knife after glancing at what you held.
“How do we do this?” he grumbled.
You grinned and positioned yourself to get the best angle and demonstrated cutting a circle into the pumpkin around the stem, making sure it was wide enough for you to scoop the seeds out later. Yachiru caught on quickly, and while you knew she could handle herself, you couldn’t help watching her in case the pumpkin slipped. However, you should’ve been keeping an eye on Kenpachi–he lost his grip and nearly sliced one of his fingers off, cursing up a storm.
“Baby, be careful!” You crawled over to his side and used the sheet covering the table to wipe off the pumpkin. A frustrated blush dusted his cheeks, hidden under a curtain of unruly black locks. Aha. “Yachiru, do you have a hair elastic?”
The girl nodded and dug in the sleeve of her kosode, then flung the requested item at you.
Before Kenny could protest, you snuck behind him and swept the hair at his temples back into a crude ponytail–secure enough to keep his hair out of his face but loose enough that it wouldn’t tangle if he used his brute force to yank it out. He hissed your name and tried swatting at your hands, but you’d moved too fast, finishing the hairstyle with a kiss on his cheek.
When you sat back across from him, his signature death glare focused on you, but his threatening reiatsu felt more like a puppy nipping at you than a guard dog trying to tear your arm off. You smirked and got back to work on carving the lid into your pumpkin, satisfied when you heard him pick up where he left off with his. All bark and no bite.
“Once you’re done, grab the stem and carefully pull up. If you did it right, it should come right up, like–” you grunted, rising on your knees and wiggling the pumpkin while pulling up– “this!”
An ecstatic laugh escaped you when you yanked the lid you’d carved free. Seeds hung down from the detached lid of your pumpkin, and when you shook it side to side a few flung off onto the table. Yachiru immediately copied you, furrowing her brow and frowning when you told her to carve over a few spots that were still connecting the lid to the rest of the pumpkin. Kenny had no issues this time, though, and you made sure to reward his efforts with a kiss on the forehead.
“Now that we carved an opening, we can scoop out the pumpkin guts. I recommend using a scraper to scrape down the walls of the pumpkin and make it easier to get rid of as much of the guts as you can before needing to go in again.” You nudged one of the scrapers towards Yachiru, and another to Kenny, who raised an eyebrow. You rolled your eyes. “Kenny, if you don’t wanna do it, I can.”
“I’ll do it, but I’m doin’ it my way,” he proclaimed, a diabolical grin splitting his face.
You shook your head and started scraping your pumpkin.
Kenny huffed when he noticed that you and Yachiru had finished scooping out your pumpkins’ guts, then snickered upon seeing the mountain Yachiru sculpted from them. Lucky for him, neither of you noticed how his battle-worn face softened watching his girls smile and laugh.
However, you caught him trying to slyly grab the scraper you’d been using, grabbing his wrist nd leaning forward over your pumpkin and tilting your head.
“Say I was right and I’ll let you have it.”
“Tch, no way,” he snipped. He could easily pull his wrist out of your grip, but he chose to play along and let his woman have her fun.
“Don’t you wanna carve more stuff?”
“Of course.”
“Say I was right and you’ll be carving again in no time.”
He groaned. “You and Yachiru can just keep goin’, because I’m not fuckin’ saying that.”
Before you could retort, the pink-haired girl piped up, “Kenny! We have to do it together. It’s not fun if you aren’t doing it with us.” She pointed at you and her face darkened. “I want to start carving my pumpkin. Listen to Pancake.”
The wind rustled the leaves in the garden’s trees and bushes while Kenpachi and Yachiru stared each other down. Her reiatsu spiked and you gulped; Kenpachi flinched.
His widened eye flicked back to you and he steeled his face. “You were right,” he gritted out.
You let go of his wrist and he snatched the scraper, unable to hide the red flush on his cheeks. Yachiru sat back down with a smug smile. That girl had him wrapped around her finger and it warmed your heart.
Finally, the last of Kenpachi’s pumpkin guts plopped down in the center of the table, narrowly avoiding an apocalyptic impact with Yachiru’s mountain. He set the scraper down and looked at you expectantly, Yachiru matching his gaze. It reminded you of a father and his daughter, which was endearing to you, but it would probably be slightly frightening to those who hadn’t witnessed how soft your imposing boyfriend could be.
“Now, we can carve out a face or a basic picture. Here, I drew a face that humans use a lot on their pumpkins. You should both try it.” You passed them each a piece of paper you’d kept under the table, safe from any stray pumpkin guts.
“What’re you carving, Pancake?”
“A witch hat.” Your whipped out the last piece of paper and grabbed one of the many mini stakes used to pin patterns to pumpkins. “You should both use a pen and outline the shapes you wanna carve out and then start cutting with a serrated knife.”
A comfortable silence fell over you all, Yachiru’s tongue poking out between her lips as she worked. Across from you, Kenny bent down and squinted, taking his time with drawing the different shapes for his pumpkin’s face. You giggled at the uncharacteristic sight, and he looked up at the sound, shaking his head. Then, he looked between you and the pattern on the table next to your pumpkin.
“How’re you doin’ yours?”
You leaned back and stretched side to side. “Used that weird spiky wheel thing to trace the pattern into my pumpkin and then drew lines into the bits that need to be entirely carved out.” You pointed at a gray area on the pattern, Kenny peering down at it. “That means I only need to carve a little bit into the pumpkin–it’ll add some cool details.”
“Damn, that’s a lotta work, baby.”
“It’s a little more complicated, but I’m up for the challenge.” You smiled up at your boyfriend, settling back in a comfortable seated position and picking up your knife.
“That’s what I love about ya, baby. You never back down.”
Your hand nearly slipped in the middle of a delicate cut. Yachiru gasped. Looking up at Kenny, you saw an uncharacteristic smitten smile on his face, the wind gently swaying his shiny black hair side to sid behind him. Your eyes widened and the tips of your ears felt like they’d been lit on fire.
“You love me?”
“Yeah. That a problem?” You shook your head and he flashed a toothy grin at you. “Good.”
Yachiru squealed and he lightly elbowed her, telling her to keep carving her pumpkin.
You cleared your throat and tried to swallow the lump in it. The handle of your knife dug into your palm and you felt your pulse increase as you mustered up the courage to reply to him.
“I love you too,” you rushed, grimacing.
Kenpachi called your name and you finally looked up from your work, exhaling at his awestruck expression. You both jumped when Yachiru squealed so loud that the entire Seireitei probably heard her.
Your three pumpkins decorated the front porch of Kenpachi’s home. Later that night, you lit candles within them to show off your designs, all of you smiling at the sight, but Kenny’s quickly fading when Yachiru commented on his pumpkin’s uneven eyes and slanting mouth. His irritation fizzled out when he heard you laugh, pulling you closer into his side and planting a kiss on the top of your head. You nuzzled into his side and simpered up at him.
You had a sneaking suspicion this wouldn’t be the last time your family carved pumpkins together, and you were excited to create even more traditions together.
a/n: this was very self-indulgent. I truly hope you enjoyed it!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I wanted to write something similar to what I did for Christmas, so here’s a missmash of characters celebrating Valentine’s Day with you. I put a bunch of random characters into a spinning wheel of names, and voilà! Our characters have been chosen. This is SFW and fairly fluffy – Apologies, but I haven’t been quiet in the headspace to write smut as of late! Regardless, I hope you guys enjoy this (and some delicious snacks today!).
CW: These are all AUs, more or less. As for specific warnings: there's a smidge of something suggestive in Kenpachi's but that's about it. I think maybe all of them are on the side of being a bit corny and cheesy haha! But I'm in a fluffy mood.
“A listening room?” Shinji asked, raising his eyebrows. There was a growing crowd behind you as you eagerly waited to be let into event. “Isn’t that just a fancy name for a concert?”
“On paper it sounds like a concert, but it’s anything but that!” You grinned. Shinji was skeptical, but you were in an exuberant mood, and it was hard to be cynical with your infectious smile around.
You had scored tickets to the elusive event around town. The Listening Room was only open to those with tickets, and the tickets themselves were hard to come by. There was little promotion for them, as the organizer preferred to keep it lowkey. You learned about them in passing, about this music event that happened twice a month – where there were live performers playing all sorts of jazz music, as well as involving the audience.
You knew it would be something Shinji would enjoy, and it just so happened that you secured tickets for their Valentine’s Day event.
But you frowned, slightly, as the two of you approached the entrance. Maybe Shinji wouldn’t like this. The scowl on his face didn’t disappear and he seemed irritated. Maybe you were a bother and he wanted to do something else. Maybe… maybe… maybe he’s just not that into you.
“You ok?” Shinji asked, his frown replaced with a look of concern.
“Oh, no. It’s just a bit too cold tonight.” You lied. Shinji opened his mouth, but the bouncers scanned your tickets and let you in.
It was a small space, where at the centre was a makeshift stage for the musicians of the night. They improvised a song, and immediately Shinji’s head perked up. It’s what he enjoyed about jazz – there was freedom in playing it, freedom he wasn’t necessarily afforded always.
He began nodding his head along to the music. The venue was getting fuller, but everyone’s focus was on the centre stage. The musicians played and improvised different songs, some you recognized from Shinji’s collections, others were completely new to you. You looked at Shinji and smiled, he was enjoying the music, with the large grin plastered on his face.
Shinji instinctively grabbed your hand, “let’s get closer.” He murmured, to which you agreed. The two of you slightly pushed and shoved your way through the herd of people, until you had a clear view of the stage. Shinji’s face lit up as he watched the musicians play. With the freestyle nature of the songs they were playing, you noticed that some instruments would change players – a new drummer was sitting in place of the one when you first entered. Actually, you recognized that person – they were just ahead of you in line!
You heard about this through the rumour mill, that the Listening Room encouraged audience participation. You knew Shinji dabbled with keyboards from time to time…
And the beat of the song changed pace, where the keyboardist stopped playing and left the stage, a large smile on their face as they went back into the crowd.
“Shinji, you should go!”
“What are you talking about? These are musicians.”
“Some of them, but not all. They let the audience play with them too.”
Shinji looked at you – your eyes were bright with eagerness to hear him play.
And he could never say no to you.
“Fine, fine. I’ll go up there.”
Thankfully, no one came up and Shinji made his way, nodding his head to the musicians who kept playing. Shinji sat in front of the keyboard, closing his eyes as he nodded his head to the music, finding the rhythm and without hesitation, began to play along with the other players.
You gave him a large smile as you clapped, watching him enjoy himself like this. A wave of relief washed over you to see Shinji playing along. Eventually though, Shinji began tapering off his notes, his way of signaling he was going to stop. You could see another person coming forward and with a quick nod of heads, Shinji came off the stage.
The music kept playing as he made his way back towards you. His grin was wide, teeth fully showing, and a slight sweat across his forehead.
“Did you have fun?” You asked, with a light laugh.
“Ya sure bet I did.” He chuckled, grabbing hold of your hand once again. He pulled you further away from the stage and people, but you were still able to hear the music.
“Let’s get you a drink.” You said, but before you could even leave, Shinji’s grip on your hand tightened as he pulled you closer to him.
You were hit with his chest, as you tilted your head up, face feeling warm. You were never this close to him before!
“I’m not dense ya know.” Shinji remarked, his cheeks turning slightly pink under the warm light. He held you closer, before leaning down to kiss you on the lips.
Your eyes were wide, but you kissed him back.
Shinji pulled away, murmuring your name, “I like you a lot, ya know?” Giving you a reassuring hug, “and this was the best damn Valentine’s Day gift I could ask for.”
Your heart thudded loudly in your chest as soon as you heard those words, “I like you too, Shinji.” You whispered.
He gave a soft laugh, “I sure hope ya did – it would’ve broken my heart if you did all this and just wanted to be friends!”
SHUHEI HISAGI - THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS | wc: 1325
You were perplexed with the growing number of flowers you were receiving each day. They weren’t elaborate bouquets, if anything, you would be gifted a single stem flower each day. You weren’t sure who it was from, all you knew was that you would come back to your office, at different times of the day, to find one lone flower.
You brought them home with you, placing them into one vase. At first the single stemmed flowers were pretty on their own, but once together, they became a beautiful bouquet in your vase.
The scent they emitted was refreshing, and surprisingly they didn’t show many signs of wilting. Yet the mystery remained on who was placing them.
No notes, no hints or clues as to who was placing them. And today was no different, as another flower laid on top of your desk. You sighed wistfully, inspecting the lone flower. But there was no time to daydream today, as you had a deadline approaching.
You were lost in thought as you typed away the last of your editorial comments for the upcoming issue being released. The knocks on your office door went unheard until someone came into your periphery.
“Oh Shuhei! I didn’t notice you.” You smiled at him. He gave you a small smile as he handed you a cup of coffee.
“I figured as much, you haven’t left your office in a while.” Shuhei murmured, then quickly grew red in the face, “not that I was noticing!”
You laughed at how easily flustered he became, “it’s ok – I knew what you meant.” Giving him a reassuring smile. “I definitely needed this, so thank you.” You said, blowing the hot steam from the cup and taking a sip. Shuhei knew your coffee order by heart, and you cherished the taste of your favourite café’s brew.
“How’s the issue coming?” Shuhei asked, sitting in the chair across from your desk.
“Eh, it’s not bad – but you know how it is when the writers submit last minute.” You gave him a wry smile as you pushed your laptop towards him.
Shuhei quickly skimmed the document, frowning as he noticed the errors some of the articles had. “Rush jobs always need the most work.” He sighed.
“Tell me about it… sometimes I wonder if I should rewrite the article myself.” You complained, pinching the bridge of your nose. “But whatever, it’s almost done.”
“That’s good. Let me know if I can be of any help.” Shuhei offered, before he noticed the flower placed on your notebook. “What’s that?”
“Oh I keep meaning to ask you about this, but do you know who’s been giving me flowers?”
“You’ve been getting flowers?” Shuhei asked innocently, lightly tapping his facial tattoo. “I didn’t see anyone come in, but I was also in meetings this morning.”
“Right, yeah – with those photographers.” You murmured, knowing Shuhei was just as busy as you with drafting and setting up the magazine’s layout design.
“I can ask around if you want.” Shuhei asked, as he gently placed his hand over yours on the desk.
You gave him an appreciative smile, “thanks Shuhei, but it’s ok. It’s been a nice pick me up to be honest.” As your eyes wandered back to the flower.
Shuhei’s face turned slightly pink, which was his cue to leave. “Anyways, I should get going so you can get back to work.” He quickly said, as he got rushed out of his seat. Without so much of a glance to you, he reached for the door. “If I have a suggestion… look up what those flowers mean. It might give you an idea of who it’s from.” He said, before closing your door.
You stared at where Shuhei once was, and then back to the flower on your desk. You inspected it carefully. You weren’t sure what flower you were looking at, so you resolved to look this up at home, with the rest of your bouquet waiting for you.
Unfortunately for you, the day went longer than expected. You were in such a hurry to go home though that you forgot your house keys back in your office.
And you were also exhausted. You didn’t want to go back to the office – the traffic and subways were packed with people rushing in and out on a Friday night. It was then you had an idea.
You pulled out your phone and quickly texted Shuhei, “are you still in the office?”
You bit your lip waiting for his response when you say the speech bubble appear to show him typing. “Yeah. What’s up?”
“Can you do me a huge favour? I left my keys at my desk, if it’s not too much trouble – could you get them for me?”
“Np.” He replied, followed by a thumbs up emoji. You sighed in relief as you texted him your address.
Maybe you lost track of the time, but Shuhei found his way to your home in no time.
“Thank you so much! You have no idea.” You cried in relief, giving him a hug.
He tensed up immediately, then awkwardly patted your back. He was nervous around you, his cheeks tinted pink. “Don’t worry about it – I was just about to leave, so you got me at a good time.”
“Thank god for that.” You laughed. “Why don’t you come in? Let’s have dinner, it’s my treat.” You smiled.
Shuhei’s face grew hot, “if you insist.” He stammered, following you in.
Shuhei took a look around your home. It was modestly decorated, but was undeniably your space. He made his way to your bookshelf and looked over the spines of the books and magazines you had in your collection.
“You have a really nice home.” Shuhei complimented. You motioned him to the couch, as you brought him a cup of water.
“Thank you! It took some time, but I’m glad to call this place home.” You smiled.
Shuhei looked around your space again and noticed the vase immediately.
“Are those the flowers?” He asked, his voice unusually serious.
“Oh yes, I just placed the one I got today in it.” You smiled at him. He walked over to the vase and inspected the flowers.
“Did you look up what they mean?” He examined the flower petals, running his thumb gently over them.
“No, I didn’t. You don’t happen to know what they mean, do you?” You laughed.
“Yeah, I do.” Shuhei murmured, “this one is a white anemone, which means ‘sincerity’” as he pointed to the white flower. “And this one, the yellow camellia, means ‘longing’.”
You stood next to him, as you watched him look over the flowers, “I know the lily of the valley means ‘promise of happiness’” you said, as he gently flicked the bell-shaped blossoms.
Shuhei gave you a soft smile, “that’s right. And do you know what this means?” He asked, pointing the red rose.
You laughed, “of course I know, it means ‘in love’.” You grinned at him,“you know a lot, Shuhei!”
Taking a deep breath, Shuhei turned to face you, “I know what they mean because I sent them.”
You gave him a warm smile, reaching out to his hand, “I know. I just wanted to play along.” You smiled at him.
Shuhei’s face grew red as you held his hand to your face. “I –“ he stammered.
“It’s ok – I figured it was you. You’re the only one who comes into my office and would have known when I’d be away.” You laughed. “You’re not that slick.” You teased at him.
Shuhei looked down, embarrassed, but you kept holding his hand.
“And Shuhei,” you whisper, reaching up to his face, “if I had flowers for you – they’d say the same thing.” You murmured, kissing him softly on the lips. Shuhei’s eyes fluttered, his heart thudding loudly to him, as he kissed you back. Sometimes the language of flowers is all that needs to be said.
NANAO ISE - STRANGER LOVE | wc: 1003
Nanao was resolved to work her way during her graduate school career, much to the dismay of her ever-doting uncle, Kyoraku Shunsui. She knew that if she were to ever fall on hard times, he would help her in a heartbeat, but Nanao was determined to work hard and earn her keep.
Bartending wasn’t her ideal choice for a part-time career, and she couldn’t see herself working as a bottle girl at a night club… but her uncle’s compliments on hosting made her wonder if she could get paid for it.
Which is how she landed the bartending position in a highly coveted speakeasy. Although the speakeasy was quiet, the tips were large and the clientele, for the most part, were easy to work with.
It allowed her to network in a way with some of the customers, practice her people skills and learn more outside the sheltered upbringing she had growing up. Some days were easier than others, sometimes it was fearful to cut off a customer if they had too much to drink one night. But overall, Nanao couldn’t complain much, it was paying her bills and kept her uncle out of her hair.
But lately, Nanao felt… strange at work. You were a new customer, one of few words. You would always smile politely at Nanao, order at most two drinks, then tip generously. Usually you came at a time where she was already in deep conversation with another customer. It made her feel guilty that she left you alone.
So today, she planned on talking to you. You usually came to the bar at a specific time, and Nanao would be ready.
What Nanao didn’t realize, that it was also Valentine’s Day. The speakeasy was filled with couples, old, young, apparently happy? (Or was it the alcohol). Nanao gave a sad smile as she looked around the bar. It was your usual time to come, and yet you weren’t here – of course you weren’t. It’s Valentine’s Day, you would be with your partner, like all these other people.
Sighing to herself, Nanao cleaned a whiskey glass. Although there were plenty of people at the bar tonight, many of them were talking to others. Any other time, Nanao would feel relieved that she could people watch, but tonight, she was disappointed.
Celebrating Valentine’s Day wasn’t a thought she had. It wasn’t something she concerned herself with, but tonight it made her feel lonely.
Yet the door opened and you made your way to her counter. Nanao’s eyes widened as she looked at you, feeling strange as to why she was feeling relieved to see you.
“Hi!” You greeted her, “happy Valentine’s Day. This place is busy tonight.” You laughed, as you looked around the room.
“Oh – yes, yes, it is. Do you want your usual?” Nanao asked, feeling nervous for some reason.
“Yes please, thank you.” You smiled. “I’m also surprised no one’s talking to you tonight.”
“Really?” Nanao asked, a frown forming her face.
“In a way, I’m glad. I always wanted to talk to you.” You smiled softly. Nanao looked down to your glass as she finished the finishing touches of your drink. “You’re always so busy when I come.”
Nanao didn’t say anything as she watched you nurse your drink.
“You really know your alcohol.” You grinned, taking another sip. “This is delicious.”
Nanao’s face felt warm hearing your compliment, “thank you.”
“Anyways, I’m surprised your working tonight. I thought you’d be celebrating Valentine’s Day.”
Nanao scoffed, fixing her glasses, “no, I get triple pay tonight and I’m single.”
“Really?” You gasped, placing your drink on the counter. “What time does your shift end?”
Nanao gave you a confused look, “why? You don’t even know my name.”
You gave a hearty laugh, “yes I do! You told me it before – it’s Nanao” you smiled. “Also I wanna take you out to celebrate! You should at least get some time for yourself, you know?”
Nanao hesitated – she didn’t know you at all… but her instincts weren’t going off.
“We can do whatever you want to. Just pick the place.”
“Let’s just stay here.” She murmured, feeling unsure of where to go. “I want to try being the customer for once.”
You gave her a gentle smile, “of course – the customer is ‘king’ or I should say, ‘queen’ after all.”
The two of you chatted the rest of the evening, with Nanao breaking away a few times to tend to the bar as customers came in. After her shift ended, she quickly changed out of her uniform. Her large glasses framed her face, her hair in a makeshift bun, and a small blush across her cheeks.
“Actually, can we go to a diner nearby?” Nanao asked, as she fidgeted with her glasses.
“Lead the way!”
“And who’s this?” Nanao’s uncle, Shunsui, asked as he invited you to his home.
You introduced yourself, bowing to the tall man. “I’m Nanao’s partner.”
Shunsui’s eyes widened as Nanao looked away nervously. He let out a tender smile, “I hope you’re treating my Nanao-chan with the tender love and care she deserves.”
“Shut up!” Nanao interjected, embarrassed at what he was saying. You laughed, as Nanao warned you beforehand that he would “say something incredibly cheesy.”
“How long have you been together?” Shunsui asked, as he ushered the two of you to sit.
“Hm, about 8 months now, give or take?” You said, turning to Nanao. Her face was red as she refused to look at her uncle in the face.
“Eight months… that would mean you met in February?” Shunsui pondered, look at the two of you with curiosity.
“Technically we’ve known each other for a little more than that, but our first date was on Valentine’s Day.” You answered, giving him a sheepish smile as Nanao face reddened even more.
Shunsui let out a hearty chuckle, “well isn’t that romantic. No wonder little Nanao is so flustered.”
Nanao huffed, “you two are so annoying.” To which, you and Shunsui shared a laugh.
ZARAKI KENPACHI - BOOK-END, HAPPY-END | wc: 1885
Yachiru was a handful most of the time, or at least, that’s what her preschool teachers would tell Zaraki continuously. But she was a happy girl, popular with her classmates and while she liked to pull pranks, she was quick to apologize.
Libraries though, were a sense of wonder for her – she can read all her favourite comics, have someone read to her, and play with some toys, all in one place?
Her father, Zaraki, hated the library. He didn’t care much for books, and it was too quiet for his liking. It was too stuffy for someone like him. He always dreaded picking up Yachiru from her afterschool program at the library because of the looks and stares he would get from other parents.
Not that he cared about what they thought – they were just pissing him off with the constant oogling and whispers. If they had something to say, say it to his face.
But one glare from him was enough to shut any negative naysayers around him as they ran off in fear. And Yachiru was a happy camper ready to be picked up by her father, or “Kenny” as she affectionately called him. Zaraki didn’t care that Yachiru didn’t call him father, dad, pops – whatever name one would call their father figure. She was happy, safe and healthy (he did mind how much candy she was consuming, lest he get another scolding from her dentist).
It surprised him that Yachiru enjoyed the library as much as she did. She was louder than him and was just as carefree about personal space and societal expectations as he was… yet she insisted on being part of the afterschool library program that some of her friends were in.
So here he was, waiting for Yachiru to finish up her program as he flipped through some random magazine.
“Kenny!” Yachiru yelled as she rushed over to Zaraki. He stared at her calmly as she excitedly jumped around in front of him, her schoolbag barely zipped, her cheeks flushed with with excitement and bright pink hair tousled around. He gave her a smile and lifted her on to his shoulders.
But as soon as he walked away, he felt a hard ‘thud’ on his head. “Ow, watch where yer hittin’, Yachiru.” He snapped.
“Kenny, you gotta talk to the librarian. She said she had to talk to the parents before we left.”
Zaraki huffed, this place was annoying. He saw you, the librarian in question, chatting with some parents before they walked away. You had a calm smile, as you waved to Yachiru sitting happily on Zaraki’s head.
“And you must be Ms. Yachiru’s father – it’s nice to actually speak with you.” You said, as you began to register how tall and big the man was. No wonder Yachiru seemed content to sit on his shoulders, she was so high up!
“She said you had somethin’ to talk to me about. Make it quick.” He coldly replied. In his few interactions with libraries and librarians, he hated talking with him. They talked too much, and he didn’t care for books. It was just too boring for him.
“We have a little read-along coming up and I’ve been inviting caregivers to attend.” You said, as you handed Zaraki a pamphlet. “Yachiru is an excellent reader… once she finds something she wants to read.” You gave a hearty laugh.
“That’s because you know what I like Ms. Librarian!” Yachiru giggled.
You sighed, you corrected Yachiru in front of her father, “please call me that instead.”
Zaraki muttered your name, unsure if he would even remember it, but you did have a different personality for a librarian than what he was used to. You seemed carefree and relaxed – not caring that Yachiru often times did things on her own terms.
“I’ll be there. Thanks.” Zaraki took the pamphlet from your hands. He walked out of the library with Yachiru gleefully laughing, all the way home.
Zaraki was warming up to the library, or the more accurate answer was that he was warming up to you. He would come right on time to pick up Yachiru but let her have a few minutes to run amok in the children’s area while he talked with you.
He liked listening to you talk – the way your nose scrunched up when you laughed, and the way you didn’t judge him for his dislike of reading. “It’s not for everyone,” you would say, “but there is always a book for someone.” But you never pressured him to take out a book.
And the two of you wouldn’t just talk about Yachiru, even though she was often a handful. She was fun and was quick to engage, you didn’t have many complaints. You also were honest with him, which was something he appreciated. He hated the way many of Yachiru’s teachers and the parents of her friends, would dance around him – as if anything they say would piss him off. They didn’t bother to get to know him, and in return, he didn’t give a rat’s ass about them (aside from being respectful to Yachiru).
No, you were different – you weren’t afraid to joke with him, you weren’t afraid to tease him. You were… fun. Which was why he started to enjoy coming to the library to pick Yachiru up if it meant getting a few moments to chat with you.
Although today was a bit different, Yachiru had been invited to a sleepover with one of her classmates, a family he was familiar with and had known since Yachiru was in pre-school. He didn’t mind her staying over the night.
“Yachiru, don’t forget to give your books back to the library.” Zaraki told her as he helped her get ready for school.
“’kay Kenny!” She responded happily, as she had her lunchbox and backpack already ready. He saw her head out the door and run down the street to her friend, holding their hand as they walked to school.
Zaraki closed the door and immediately noticed the two books Yachiru forgot to pack. It would be stupid to go after her and give her the books, he might as well drop it off for her and chide her later for it.
He didn’t have much planned for today anyways. Yachiru being gone and having the day off meant he could relax and shoot the shit. A stop by the library wasn’t going to change that.
As he made his way to the library, he initially decided to shove the books into the drop-off slot, but… he wanted to see if you were around. He only saw you in the afternoon with other kids and parents around, would morning you be different?
So he made his way into the library. It was too quiet for his liking, given the fact that children were now in school. It was uncomfortable for him to be in such a quiet place.
“Ah Mr. Kenpachi! What a pleasant surprise.” You greeted him. You were pushing a trolley of books to be placed back on shelves. “What brings you here this morning?”
“Was just droppin’ off Yachiru’s books.” He grumbled, scratching the back of his neck. “Didn’t want to pay for the fees.”
“Oh we don’t charge late fees anymore.” You laughed. “We changed the policy a while back. But anyways, you can put them in the drop off box. My colleague will handle it.”
“Sure…” but Kenpachi didn’t want to leave just yet. “Mind if I hang around for a bit?”
“Why of course not, it’s the library!” You giggled, “you know we have movies you can borrow too, right?”
“I don’t really watch movies.” Zaraki grumbled.
“No way,” you gasped. “You don’t have at least one favourite movie?” You questioned him.
“Don’t really have the time for it.” Zaraki remarked, shrugging his shoulders, “I prefer to experience the action myself.” Which earned a fit of laughter from you.
“Ok, Mr. Superstar – I’m almost done with these, but I’m taking you to the movie corner.” You said, a determined look in your eye, “and we’re picking out a movie for you!”
It didn’t take long for you to finish shelving the books and you immediately made a beeline to the movie corner. Zaraki stood aimlessly in the room, unsure of what he was looking for.
“Did you see anything you like?” You asked, as he skimmed the back cover of a DVD.
“Not really – I don’t even own a DVD player.” Zaraki said. “You don’t gotta waste your time with me.” He bellowed, “you should get back to work.”
You stood in front of him, arms crossed, as you sized him up. “Nope. No can do – books are one thing, but I’m here to help you find a movie.” Zaraki smirked at your bravery, most people didn’t even think twice about saying ‘no’ to him.
“Fine, suit yerself girly. Pick me something.” As he leaned against the wall. He watched you in amusement going through the stacks of DVDs.
“Voilà!” You shouted, pulling out a DVD. “This one for sure. I think you’ll like it.” As you handed him the cover.
“Seven Samurai, huh. I’ve heard of this.” Zaraki murmured as he quickly skimmed the back cover.
“Excellent.” You beamed, “pick a time where you’re free and I can bring my DVD player to your place.”
“Eh, that’s not necessary.” Zaraki muttered, not comfortable with being fussed over like this. “I’m free tonight since Yachiru’s going to a sleepover.”
Without missing a beat, you blurted out “then come over to my place after the program tonight!” Zaraki raised an eyebrow to you.
“Yah sure about that?”
You nodded your head vigorously. “Definitely – I have popcorn, but if you have other snacks you want to bring, feel free.” You eagerly said.
“I’ll bring dinner.” Zaraki said, amused at how eager and excited you looked. He couldn’t help but think how cute you were with the determined look on your face, and the excitement in your eyes. “It’ll be a date.” He said, without a second thought.
“Yes, a date! I’m looking forward to it.” Zaraki’s eyes widened, you didn’t disagree with what he said? He gave you a gentle pat on the head, then handed you the DVD.
“Keep this for me and I’ll pick you up later.” Zaraki grinned. The two of you were making your way back to the entrance of the library, when it dawned on you that you agreed to a date. You cheeks felt hot, realizing what was happening.
“I’m lookin’ forward to tonight.” Zaraki said, an unsually shy look in his face.
“Me too!” You stammered. The two of you stood awkwardly.
“I trust yer choice. And even if the movie sucks shit –”
“It doesn’t suck shit!” You yelled, then immediately covering your mouth as the library patrons shushed you.
Zaraki let out a bellowing laugh, making you smile, “what I was tryin’ to say – if it sucks shit, I’m sure you have other movies I’d like. I trust yer taste.”
You smiled at his words, your heart fluttering from his praise. You stood on the tips of your toes and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. “And if not, we can do other things.” You said, suggestively, earning a menacing grin from Zaraki.
Thank you for reading!! And happy Valentine's Day!!

Warnings: none? Crying, being called a cry baby. Sensitive female reader
•
-you were sensitive, always have been, but you never thought you were a cry baby. It wasn’t until you got together with your boyfriend that you realized just how soft you truly are
-“aww, what’s the matter pretty girl?” Your partner coo’s towards you when he walks into your shared room. Seeing your blood shot eyes, mascara smeared under your lashes, and streaks of the black ink stained against your soft skin
-“such a little cry baby, hm?” despite your lover’s teasing, he hates seeing you upset, let alone to the point that tears were shed. He’d kill anybody who upsets you, especially if they called you a cry baby. Only he’s allowed to do that.
-all you manage to mutter out is a faint ‘m sorry”, using your sleeve to wipe away the evidence of your feelings.
-“tsk, none of that baby” his words are soft, devoid of his usual taunting nature. He climbs into bed, wrapping his arms around you, pulling your small frame against his chest.
-you always felt safe around your boyfriend, allowing yourself to be completely vulnerable with him. Which, of course, causes you to let out a soft sob and a few more tears, forming a small wet spot against his shirt.
-you relax further into his chest, feeling a large hand move up and down over your back, something he took to the first time you cried in front of him. Something he does to keep you grounded. Focused. Calm.
-“come on, talk to me mama. Let me know what upset my baby.” His voice is gentle, his tone full of patience as he waits for you to catch your breath.
-he’ll never admit it, especially to you, but he loves this. Loves being able to be the one to make you feel better, allowing his own vulnerability to show, which goes against his tough nature. It only fuels his need to protect you
-he loves nothing more than having a cry baby as a girlfriend.

slight trigger warning in that the reader realizes that some people are gossiping about her appearance and sometimes what they say is mean though no specific quotes are given.
(Y/n) sighed softly as she sat at a booth in the local bar, the Whispering Lilly, she was waiting for her Captain and friends. The young woman was the only adult female of squad 11, she fought with the boys and kicked ass to get to where she was now. Of course, this meant her body type was a bit different, she was curvier and had more muscle than most girls that was for sure, but this also meant a bit of a wider mid-section. She didn't think she looked bad, men still make the mistake of flirting with her, and it wasn't like she was morbidly obese. Rangiku and the women of the Shinigami Women's Association always told her she looked good. But recently she found that wherever she went there'd be people talking about her appearance, it made her wonder if it really was only just happening or if it had been going on all along. Some comments weren't bad, but others could be cruel, the ones from the other women hurt the most.
It had been going on all week, and now here she sat alone in a booth and wondering just how many people around her had noticed her or said something about her. The longer she sat alone the more she felt judged, even though she kept reminding herself that she was overacting. She kept over thinking every move she made, even her breathing. That was when she downed the drink in hand, the burn of the sake dragging her back to earth. She was 4 in when Kenpachi showed up with his 3rd and 5th seat, Ikkaku cocking an eyebrow. "Everything ok there? You look like you want to throw a table." That made Kenpachi laugh, his golden eye locking on the bald man. "Now don't say that, you might just tempt me into throwing a table."
That made (Y/n) laugh a bit, the alcohol making it easier to lighten her mood. "Sorry I'm fine, it took you guys so long I got lost in thought." She watched as everyone sat down, her Captain sitting by her while Yumichika and Ikkaku sat across from him. Kenpachi always sat beside her, it made her feel tiny bit safe. She knew her Captain wouldn't turn his blade on her, she also knew if someone got unruly, he'd shut them up for getting on his nerves. "I'm glad I'm not the only one in this squad that has enough thoughts to get lost in." Yumichika chimed up, filling up everyone's glass. (Y/n) unconsciously throwing it back, not even cringing. "That's happenin a lot to you lately (L/n), what's goin on in that head of yours." Kenpachi had noticed her staring off sometimes, even in training or while sparring. It was like she'd go into autopilot, she looked so hyper focused yet unfocused at the same time. (Y/n) knew she had been slipping up lately, though she didn't realize it was happening that often.
"It's nothing, I just feel like I'm in a bit of a rut... I don't even know what I'm doing in life anymore let alone why I'm doing it." She gave a sigh, throwing back another drink. She wasn't lying, the last month had been so repetitive, each day the same as the last. On top of it she has no inspiration, she loved to write even though no one reads it but her writer's block was killing her. "That's understandable, everyone's been hit with a wave of busy work and the hollow attacks have slowed. It's so boring it'll rot your head." The Captain swallowed down his drink, leaning back in his seat as Ikkaku nodded and tossed one back. "You need to talk more then, the more you sit and think the worse you'll feel. Go pull a prank or something." The bald ones advice wasn't bad, she had considered doing so but she didn't know who to mess with that wouldn't get her in trouble. She was one of the only ones who at least tried to be polite or decent. "Why don't we go shopping tomorrow (Y/n)? We haven't gone in so long, the captain and Ikkaku can come as well. We need people to carry the bags."
That made Ikkaku snort, Kenpachi swallowed down a big drink from the sake bottle and shrugged. "I ain't got nothin better to do, what time are we all meeting up?" That made Ikkaku stop laughing, he already knew he didn't have an option now that the captain had agreed. (Y/n) filled up her sake glass before swallowing it down, shrugging slightly. "How about 11? We can get lunch and take a break before getting into our actual shopping." A lot of the (H/c) head's favorite shops didn't open up til a little after midday anyways, so she knew she wouldn't do a lot of shopping until then. Everyone seemed to nod in agreement, from there they drank and discussed where they'd eat. Until they wandered off in various directions to try and find the barracks, ironically only Kenpachi made it back within an hour.
~~~Time Skip 11:30 ~~~
(Y/n) gave a soft yawn as she made her way to the squad 11 common area, she hadn't stumbled her way back to the barracks until early that morning. Having napped in one of captain Kyoraku's cherry blossom trees for a bit. She wore her standard uniform; her hair was brushed but she didn't bother dressing up. She spotted Ikkaku eating and Yumichika was checking himself in a pocket mirror, she assumed their captain was doing his hair or something.
"Hey..." The young woman yawned and sat on Ikkaku's opposite side, stealing one of his rice balls as per her daily ritual. Ikkaku didn't care anymore, he just started to get extra at this point. "Now come on (Y/n) why not dress up? We're going to that shop you enjoy that makes those dresses from the living world you like." The (H/c) haired girl simply yawned, looking at him with a groan. "It's too early for all that work, but tell you what after we shop, I'll let you dress me up." Being the only girl, she'd let Yumichika use her as his little doll, though at this point she just wanted an excuse to put it off for later.
"That's a wonderful idea! We'll have some drinks, and we can gossip a bit! I can't wait to tell you what I saw Shuhei looking at~" He laughed giddily, though (Y/n) was distracted by the sight of her Captain. For once his hair was down, not a single bell in sight. For once the young woman found her breathing stopped and heart racing, she had never blushed before and it was a struggle to keep her cheeks from turning red. "Hey Captain, running a little late aren't ya?" Ikkaku looked to the large male, both men noting that their boss wasn't sporting his usual hair style. "Yachiru left to do something with that Matsumoto woman, so I woke up late and I need her to put the bells on for me." The large man huffed, running his fingers through his long hair.
"Well now that we're all here we should get going, there's a cute little shop that sells jewelry I think you'll like." Yumichika grabbed the hand of a flustered (Y/n) and began dragging her off, leaving the two men behind them to catch up. "I got some questions for you when we get back.~" The black-haired man winked at the girl, making her face catch fire as she cursed how observant he was.
Though she quickly calmed down as the other two caught up, Kenpachi on her left and Ikkaku to Yumichika's right. "Thanks for doing this Captain, I know you probably don't care much for this stuff." She spoke up and looked to the large male, she couldn't tell if he was looking at her because of his eye patch but she knew he heard her by his grunt. "Ain't like I'm doing much anyways, besides if I said no, I'd have to listen to Yumichika's whining." Yumichika gave an offended gasp which made (Y/n) laugh, she missed the slight darkening on the captain's cheeks that formed at the sound of the young woman's laughter.
~~~Time Skip~~~
5:30 p.m.
(Yeah I know right)
(Y/n) gave a yawn as she sat on the ground in a small meeting room in the squad 11 compound, the young woman wore a (F/c) dress. It tied behind the neck with a heart shaped collar as it clung to her upper body, the skirt was looser and came to mid-thigh. This was something Yumichika picked out for her, it made her a bit self-conscious given how plump her thighs were though Yumichika thought it looked great on her and talked about how popular such dresses are in the world of the living. He had gotten dressed up, having bought a top that he said he saw in the world of the living called a 'button up' as well as some pants.
Currently the two sat across from each other, they had a drink or two already and she listened quietly as Yumichika talked about how he caught Shuhei looking at Rangiku's chest when delivering paperwork. "So, let's talk about you, I saw how you had been eyeing the captain this morning.~" The young man grinned as he poured her another drink, chuckling as he watched the woman try and block her face with the sake glass while she downed the drink to buy herself time to come up with an answer.
"He just... Looks good with his hair down is all..." Her cheeks only darkened as she listened to Yumichika hum, watching as he pointed his finger at her and downed his drink. "Ah but it's more than that, you've always had a look in your eyes when you see the captain." The woman fell silent as she swirled her refilled drink, watching the clear liquid a moment. "I've never put much thought into it... I do find the man attractive; his personality is enticing and he's so strong he leaves me in awe... But I've always told myself he was out of my reach..." She spoke steadily despite the hazy feeling in her head and swallowed her drink down, the young woman missed the look of confusion on her friend's face. The male had never seen her like this, she was always cheerful or feisty but the look on her face was one he could only describe as disappointment.
"What do you mean by 'Out of reach?', of all women you're closest to having his attention." His words surprised her, the young (H/c) head looked at him in confusion as he downed his drink and refilled both of their glasses. Though before she could answer him the door slammed open, their captain came in with a huff. "I was looking for you two." (Y/n) looked back only to blush at the sight, Kenpachi was only in his hakama and his hair still down only it was somewhat damp, so she assumed he took a bath while she and Yumichika were trying on clothes. "Is something wrong Captain?" Yumichika quirked an eyebrow and tried not to laugh at the way the girl seemed to quietly die, Kenpachi sat down with the two and looked up at them. "Ikkaku is off doing something and Yachiru fell asleep right after getting back, so it's been pretty boring."
(Y/n) had stood and went to grab another sake glass from the cabinet, unaware of the golden orb that was locked on her form. "So that's one of those worlds of the living outfits you got? It looks good on you. These uniforms really don't do anyone justice." He watched the blushing girl return and set down a large sake glass, grinning a bit at the generous pour she had when filling it. "Thank you, Captain, I was a bit worried it didn't fit my body type..." She sat and refilled her glass before passing the bottle to Yumichika, she watched Kenpachi down his drink before she did the same with her own. "The hell you talking about girlie? Since when have you ever cared about body type?"
Yumichika had simply sat back to watch, only moving to refill their cups when needed. (Y/n) only shrugged, swirling her drink a little. "I mean I am still a woman Captain; I do put some stock in my appearance..." She downed her drink, listening to the large man scoff after he had done the same. "Listen up sweetheart cause I'm only saying it once, you look damn fine and any man who says otherwise is really just a boy. Physical appearance isn't everything, from what I've seen you're also good at kicking Ass and you ain't fucking dumb." They had finished the first bottle and were starting the second, the more the two had to drink the more open they got. Yumichika wasn't even drinking that much anymore too busy watching what he hoped was his ship setting sail.
(Y/n) could only blush deeply at her Captain's words, downing another drink. "Thank you, Captain, aside from Yumichika I really don't hear that stuff often lately... So, I guess I started to doubt myself." Kenpachi chuckled at that, leaning forward so they were face to face. "Well then, maybe I'll have to remind you every chance I get.~" He had practically cooed his sentence, and it was in that moment (Y/n) broke. She lunged at the male and knocked him on his ass, straddling him and gripping his haori as she laid claim to his lips. Yumichika was left utterly astonished, his Captain feeling the same way at first though Kenpachi quickly recovered and soon enough their kiss became like a heated battle. Yumichika was quick to flee before things got too heated, making his way to the bar where he knew several members of the Shinigami Women's Association were having drinks so that he could fill them in on the new development.
Ahhh I'm so sorry for taking so long with this one, but I had to think of another scenario for this since I previously wrote a similar prompt but with "confession" added. Please!!! Enjoy this!!! I wanted to do a whole different thing

Burying your head behind his back, Kenpachi holds you tightly into his embrace, nibbling strands of your hair between his fingers.
The calm atmosphere causes you both to lazily lay down for longer than you wanted, but neither of you care for that. The moment is too good to be ruined by sudden moves and you’ve got nothing else to do. There’s simply no point in leaving.
It’s been a while since you’ve had this much time on your hands to do nothing but enjoy each other in the comforting quietness of your room. You want to feel his touch for as long as possible until duty shall call you two once again, so now’s not the moment for such thoughts.
Hearing his heavy breathing into your ear, you slightly lift your head to prompt it against his. A sudden need to touch him urges you to brush your fingers against the line of his chin, swiftly tracing all the way up to his cheeks so you can feel every one of his facial features.
Kenpachi chuckles in delight, enjoying every single sensation your soft fingertips bring against his skin, and he slowly turns his face to lock his gaze on yours. His motion isn’t frantic enough to interrupt you so he can observe every move of your digits.
You feel his eyes following you with each rub you make, but upon hearing a second chuckle you can guess he’s probably grinning at you. Yet it's not your touch that makes him smug; it's the look you have on your face.
Your partly open lips snatch all his attention and it’s not like he’ll only look at your fleshy features forever. His eyes wander all around your face, darting from one spot to another. But every time he tries to focus on something else, your blazing eyes lure him in with a powerful magnetic pull, enticing him to gaze at them in awe. It’s not his fault you’re that gorgeous, you should blame your mother instead.
Taking notice of his satisfied hum, you reply with a curious one. “Hm?” Deeply intrigued by the noises he's making.
He maintains the silence for a little longer before abruptly halting it.
“You’re the prettiest thing ever.” his soft-spoken words carry a touch of distraction brought on by the widening of your eyes.
That's an answer you've never expected to leave his mouth but a welcomed one. You offer him a beaming smile, leading his face to align with yours. The sweetness conveyed in his words warms your entire body, prompting you to give him a smooth kiss on the cheek.
Hey i want to request a story with Kenpachi. Female (or gender neutral, doesnt matter) reader is his llieutenant and they've been best friends since like forever and in time he realizes that maybe he likes her more than just a friend.
an: There’s a bit less action/ romance in this than I originally planned, but I tried a different angle on Kenpachi’s thought process. I hope it’s okay, because it’s pre-established relationship and I imagine affection comes after lots of time with him :> POST TYBW!
zaraki kenpachi x reader; thoughts
After the Quincy invasion, Kenpachi has had more time to think. Not because he’s learnt the importance of retrospection; but because he has to spend most of his time facilitating all of his new officer’s training. The damage caused by the war had left more than enough vacancies and even more fresh patriotic souls ready to lay their lives down and join the Gotei. He had no interest in most of them; they were new, they were weak, and they needed to be trained by the senior officers before they could even dream of being mentored by him. That slouchy idiot Shunsui had persuaded him into being more involved with all his officers, which left him sitting at the veranda watching hordes of men blindly smacking each other with wooden kendo sticks.
He sighed, rubbing his face with the back of his hand. It would be a long way until his company would reach its former glory, and he was impatient. Impatient to get back to blindly dragging out an officer and be promised a half-decent skirmish and not funeral preparation. So he thinks about what to have for lunch, eyes lazily dragging across the sunny field. He spots the bright glint of lieutenant's badges, accompanied by shrill voices screaming at each other.
You were at the patch of dirt right before the veranda, face bright red from the heat as you shook your fellow lieutenant. Both kendo sticks were discarded to the side as Ikkaku tried to pull at your hair; what you two were on about, he had no interest in. For all he cared, it was great that you both were close enough to brawl like siblings. He didn’t have much interest in the internal affairs of his officers, so much that he just tossed both you and Ikkaku your own badges when Ikkaku had tried to pitch some competition. More people to do his work for him.
After much struggle you manage to throw Ikkaku to the ground with a scream of victory, and immediately look up to Kenpachi for approval; bright eyes and mud-stained teeth showing through your grin. He stares on with the same unimpressed expression but can’t help but snort in amusement, nostrils flaring trying to conceal the grin.
For all the years he’d known you, you’d always given him the same look whenever you did something you deemed worthy of his attention. When you won the argument against an officer from the sixth company, when you managed to get Yachiru down from a tall she was hiding in- even if he wasn’t the best at remembering important things, he could still recall that pinchable face you made.
Yachiru had really liked you, maybe even a little more than she liked him. Maybe it was some subconscious piece of his mind; the smarter part that knew how he felt before he did. Kenpachi brushes the thought away, ignoring the afterimage of giggles in the back of his mind.
Regarding how he felt for you, it was an enigma to even himself. All he knew was that he maybe wanted to throw you against a wall a little less than he did Ikkaku, but there were a thick cluster of knots where every other emotion was hidden from him, too lazy to untangle them himself.
“Can you believe that asshole? I wish he had hair so I could show him how it felt!”
Kenpachi raises his eyebrows, eyes flickering to your muddy form. You were stomping up from the field, substantially dirtier and bloodier than twenty seconds ago. Your hair had been pulled out of its ponytail, strands caked with dirt hanging over your face mixed with sweat. A steady trickle of blood dribbled out of your nose, not that you seemed to mind.
You were always a piece of work. Nothing like Kenpachi himself, but you seemed to perfectly slot next to him at any given moment; just as sweaty and dirty as he was, but all the more personable. You had to be, in order to get as close to him as you managed to. He bites the inner flesh of his cheek, looking at blades of grass like it would give him an answer. He wished Yachiru was here; so she could say something accidentally perfect and he could partially ignore it.
Kenpachi just barely hears you say something, and grabs a fistful of your shihakusho sleeve before you can walk away. He doesn’t quite register what he’s doing, but he’s dragged you down until you’re flat on your ass sitting next to him.
“You good, captain?” He hears the smile in your voice; teasing and full like you always know what’s going on in his head. He tilts his chin, supported by the crook of his hand. Your hands propped behind you to hold yourself up- blood still weeping from your nose.
What an idiot.
“Yeah. Real good.” Kenpachi reaches over, using his thumb to roughly wipe the blood off your face. You hiss in pain, but it turns into a series of giggles when he flicks it at your feet. Your laughter is contagious, and he feels your grin mirrored onto his own face. “You win?”
“Uh- of course I did? How could you not tell, you were literally watching me!” You exclaimed, poking Kenpachi’s shoulder. Out of courtesy, he sways slightly to the left; you couldn’t actually make him move an inch even if you’d pushed him with all your might.
He doesn’t care quite enough to let you know that he wasn’t watching your squabble with Ikkaku as much as just looking at you.
You were going on again about your co-lieutenant, crossed legs bouncing up and down in passion with each passing word. The veranda’s shade was barely enough to cover the mid-afternoon sun, its rays beating down on both of you. An unfortunate thought crosses his mind that even with your blood-stained tabi and sweat-stained shihakusho, he still thought you looked better than the women in Ikkaku's magazines.
The bouncing of your feet against the wood finally got to his head, he thinks.
He lifts his leg and haphazardly tosses it over your crossed ones, easily ceasing any of your previous moments. The sudden weight catapults a big heave from your chest, folding forwards and bracing against his outstretched thigh so you didn’t hit your face on the floor.
“What the hell was that for? Get your fatass leg off me!” You try fruitlessly to try and push it off your body, earning howls of laughter from him. Even when you try to whack him with the kendo stick right below the veranda, it just cracks in half after coming into contact with his shoulder.
When you’re too busy wrangling with his singular leg, Kenpachi watches you like he always has. For a loud guy like himself, he always found himself reduced to quiet observation around you. Battle and fighting were still his number one priority, but you could do pretty much anything and he’d get almost the same kick from just watching it happen. If it was entertaining enough, maybe he’d even put it above drawing his sword.
Once you somehow free yourself, you punch him in the knee. It barely tickles, and he musses up your hair even more by patting your head. You peer up at him through your eyelashes, the cheeky smile never leaving your face.
“I got you pretty good with that one, didn’t I?”
“Oh yeah. Might not be able to walk for the next week.”
Playing along with you was easier than he’d like to admit. You cross your legs again and lean forward to stretch comfortably. “I’ll lug you around!” The air of confidence that came with your statement made Kenpachi want to laugh. Even after his lack of reply you don’t turn away just yet, peering up with those bright, beady eyes.
Kenpachi grunts, and pushes your face away with one large hand.
It’s like he can hear Yachiru and her usual cackle, drawing heart shapes in the air with her grubby fingers.
