I am curious if there's an extra function to justify Rukia's shroud being connected to the poles the way it is, or if it was done purely for aesthetic. Maybe it's safer to have it this way than to have somebody get up close and remove it by hand? Sure, her arms are bound and she's got a Lieutenant escort, but for a crime of this magnitude it makes sense to take that extra safety measure.

Wow, that is...a bleak view. Soul Society really does go the extra mile just to drive a point home, don't they?

I do think it's neat how Rukia's restraints...what are those, anyways? Are they cords? Tubes? I don't know why I thought they were tubes at first, but now that I'm really examining this page again, they look like they change into something more amorphous and blobby as they release her. Anyways, I think it's neat how they disappear into the collar around her neck.

And...Renji breaks protocol to share gossip? I can't tell if Rukia's face is one of hope or disbelief or "oh Soul King no that is very much the opposite of what I wanted that dumb dandelion idiot to do." Probably a complicated mix of all three.
