“NO PLACE LIKE HOME”
By Kenton Brett
Founded in 1985 by three clergymen increasingly aware of the plight of the homeless of Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, Tender Mercies provides housing and support for homeless adults with histories of mental illness—no less a need now with rapid changes to the neighborhood and displacement of many. In 2013, in partnership with Tender Mercies, Kenton Brett led an ArtWorks team in creating this mandala of objects on 12th Street in downtown Cincinnati—reminding us of all the things that provide us a sense of home, but that are not necessarily a given for the impoverished. With many years of experience painting theatrical sets, Kenton Brett continues to do work for the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, but in 2010 he also partnered with David Jarred to create Golden Brown Enterprizes, using the absurd, gross, and humorous to provide exposure for lesser-known filmmakers and animators. @artworkscincy
