HOLMES OUT; TAG TEAM MATCH SIGNED FOR DECEMBER 17
We have good news and bad news to report. Let's get the bad news out of the way: Collin "Thriller" Holmes will NOT be appearing on the School of Roc Winter Showcase on Saturday, December 17th in Indianapolis due to unforseen circumstances. But to get to the good news, we need to look at the entire story. When word got to the matchmakers involved with this event on Monday evening that Holmes would not be competing, "Cutthroat" Reed Bentley (Holmes' scheduled opponent) was informed that, due to numbers and practicality, his services would no longer be needed on this card. Enter Papa Maniwa. Papa Maniwa (yes, it REALLY says that on his business cards) is a talent agent involved with booking various Midwestern indie wrestling stars, including Reed Bentley. He called every single person involved in the School of Roc Winter Showcase from Billy Roc himself to every wrestler booked on the card to even Indiana Wrestling & Boxing Commission members, irate that his wrestler was losing out on this booking (and thus Papa Maniwa was losing out on his commission pay). The answer he got was simple: find Bentley a new opponent and he's back on the card. Papa Maniwa took to social media early Tuesday morning, posting status updates and tweets, asking for an opponent for Bentley. To give you an idea of how despised Reed Bentley is in the wrestling community, it literally took SECONDS for not one, but TWO wrestlers to reply to this challenge, desperately wanting a chance to harm Bentley. Alex Castle and Matt Cage (respectively known as The Kentucky Buffet, one of the top young tag teams in the Midwest) have both run across Bentley in the past year on various cards (including for Ohio's Heartland Wrestling Association, Illinois' IWA Unlimited and Indiana's Insanity Pro Wrestling) and while Bentley has appeared on Cage and Castle's acclaimed All You Can Eat web show, it has been whispered that Papa Maniwa was the one who negotiated the appearances to raise the profile of his young charge. Everyone involved in this situation was informed that a handicap match would not be permitted on this event and that sanctioning a three-way match featuring two tag team partners (especially two partners so proficient in fast-paced double-team tactics) against a mutual enemy would be an insurance risk. Papa Maniwa, as he is ought to do, made a few phone calls, faxed a contract (that he drew up himself, of course) and put together the team of the Bearded Lunatics, featuring Reed Bentley and Christian Rose. Bentley was said to have hand-picked Rose from a pile of partner candidates, for one reason: Rose knows Castle and Cage better than anyone. He's one-third of Team Overkill alongside both members of the Buffet and has both teamed with and competed against both men. Hearsay from both camps suggest that Rose told Bentley that he wants a fight with the Buffet since he feels slighted that the Buffet have appeared on internet pay-per-view and fought against world-class tag teams without him and he wants to prove that he is the dominant member of the trio known as Team Overkill.
