two gorgeous kererū I saw today within arms reach
Kererū in a tree. I've never been so close before, and to capture the delightful sound of their wings was so good. They both didn't care about me, looking right at me and then going back to eating. A third one flew in after this and scared away the second one haha. My favourite bird of all time, very blessed experience for me.

the stupid bird in question:
It absolutely kills me how if I told someone that there was another breed of wood pigeon that looked exactly the same except for being green, they would think I’m describing some sort of very lazy fantasy worldbuilding.
But no, that’s just the kererū.
Obviously I think there should be an emoji for every single bird species ever but if I had a kererū emoji I'd be so fucking powerful they wouldn't be able to stop me.
I think I surprised these guys as much as they surprised me
third bird in my Aotearoa set! my lovely lovely kererū—the best species of them all imo, just hope I did them justice
Today’s columbidae:
New Zealand Pigeon (Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae)
Large iridescent pigeon with blue-green plumage, a white breast, gray undertail and underwing coverts, and a bright red bill with an orange tip. Also called the Kererū or Kūkupa (northern Maori dialect). Endemic to and lives in New Zealand. Has a wide range of habitats, typically where fruit or trees are available. During breeding season, male Kererū perform display flights, which involve ascending to a steep height, appearing to stall at the top of the flight, and then swooping down. Emits soft “oo” calls, also note the sound their wings make when in flush.
