VA - Radar Keroxen Vol.4 - this year's annual label compilation
Yearly compilation album RADAR by KEROXEN returns with its fourth volume in the ongoing series of themed based albums showcasing the talents and misfortunes of carefully selected musical projects based or connected with the Canary Islands. With its first volume released in 2020 aiming to promote and divulge adventurous Island based music, the Keroxen imprint now presents Vol.4 with another showcase of the various insular musical scenes made in the outermost regions – in this case, a very rare incursion outside the Canary Archipelago by way of handpicking friends and colleagues working in the further most regions we can think of. A very special showcase then, featuring the Azores Islands, Reunion Island, Canary Islands and French Guiana - a true connection of likeminded minds whom demonstrate once again that you do not need to be in an western hipster mecca to make interesting work. The presentation format sticks to its breakable rules, with each artist offering one track per side and the full thing of course wrapped up in Pura Marquez dizzying post- tropical art.
Gaf & The Love Supreme Arkestra - Garden Island - some Arkestras are more true to Sun Ra’s vision than others; this one is on the “more” side
Spectacular mystical jazz infused psychedelics from Canary islands cult band GAF. Adopting a series of different addendums to their names (Love Supreme Arkestra, La Estrela de la Muerte, etc) to illustrate what mutation or influence they are feeding through at the time of recording, the Love Supreme Arkestra here being the more Coltrane-ish (Alice more than John) and Sun Ra-esque influenced the matic of the project. Over a series of 7 huge sounding themes, we can hear saxophones, marimbas and rhythmic sections intertwining like spiral snakes over a burning sea of lava. Recorded live over a completely improvised jam session on a sunny afternoon in the mountainous region of La Esperanza in Tenerife, the band lets rip free of any previous albums sound and instead purge themselves into a world of musical liberation by embracing the aforementioned pioneers of the genre whilst taking their surroundings as a new pillar of musical freedom. The result really shines through its 74mins of mind blowing adventurous music. A journey to the peaks of the Teide Volcano and down the valley into the blue and black volcanic coast of liberation! For fans of Sun Ra, Alice Coltrane and every single mystic brother and sister carrying the free spiritual jazz torch! Dive DEEP! Mladen Kurajica: Synthesizers Felipe González Cabezas: Drums Eduardo Villalobos: Bass César Chinarro: Guitar Olivier Dubois: Alto Saxophone and Soprano Ricardo Marichal: Tenor Saxophone Alejandro Padrón: Trumpet and Herreño whistle César Martín: Marimba Music by Gaf & The Love Supreme Arkestra Improvised and recorded live on a sunny day in November 2012 at Liquen Audio studio, La Esperanza, Tenerife by Daniel Badal. No overdubs or edits were done.
Paul Pèrrim — Itara (Keroxen)
Paul Pèrrim is a guitarist and music educator from Spain (more specifically, the Canary Islands) whose work combines elements of folk and experimental music, featuring fingerpicking on both acoustic and electric instruments and the use of electronics and found sounds. I first encountered his music on a tribute to Steffen Basho-Junghans to which he contributed a lovely acoustic composition. Itara, his first full-length studio release under his own name (he has also recorded as Transistor Eye), is a set of ten original compositions that tend toward minimalism but make use of a fairly wide range of techniques and approaches while maintaining a consistent feel.
VA - Radar Keroxen Vol. 3
Presenting the third volume of Keroxen's annual series of Radar compilations, joining the musical dots between restless and free-spirited artists working across the Canary archipelago. With volume 1 loosely based around the indie and shoegazing art rock sounds made in the Islands, and a second volume exploring the experimental electronic music of Tenerife, we now welcome Volume 3, with a special showcase of Canary artists working from the diaspora. Meet the hallucinatory acid folk from Tarragona based artist Transistor Eye, Amsterdam’s trio Halli Crigi raw, jazz/noise guitar improvisation, the glitchy and abstract piano minimalism by Sweden based Hara Alonso and the custom made midi based electronic orchestral compositions by Berlin based visual artist Arístides García aka Anisotrópico. Each artist delivers approximately 10 minutes of unique music which mixed together creates a weird and surprisingly fluid psychedelic journey, wrapped up as it’s always the case with these series in the pastoral retro-futurist collage artwork by Canarian artist Pura Márquez. Another document showcasing the other side of this holiday destination, it’s not just hotel resorts and poolside lounging here, enter the wonderful and weird world of Keroxen.

Various Artists - Aquapelago: an Oceans Anthology Introducing a new series of concept albums based around the idea of the Aquapelago.* ‘’Since the earliest days of the planet there has been a rhythm of tides that creates coastal interzones where humans have foraged and pursued various livelihoods. Developing boats to fish from and technologies that enabled them to immerse themselves deep underwater, the aquatic realm has been one explored, experienced and imagined in various ways. In an effort to express the vitality and richness of this environment I coined the term aquapelago in 2012. The wordplay was deliberate. The neologism was designed to distinguish the liquid inbetweenness of this space from the dry, scattered, lands of archipelagos. This compilation album takes the concept of the aquapelago into new depths and breaches it on fresh shores. The tracks are soaked with the aquatic. Bassy sonorities boom as if heard deep underwater. Bubbly textures breach the surface, water drips and seabirds soar high above waves.‘’ Philip Wayward Featuring Sugai Ken, Andrew Pekler, Vica Pacheco, Babau, Francesco Cavaliere with Tomoko Sauvage, Yannick Dauby and Sculpture.
