Sadly, Kesslet's baby doesn't seem to be around any more. I suspected that something was wrong a few weeks ago when I spotted Kesslet alone in the harbour at Inverness, but her big son Charlie was visible in the distance and I thought that he might be entertaining his little brother or sister. After seeing Kesslet alone three times - which hasn’t been easy as she’s been very hard to track down - I have to reach the conclusion that the little one has had an accident or has fallen ill very quickly, but there’s no way to really know for sure. Kesslet is my very favourite dolphin and witnessing a sad event like this is a part of my job that never gets any easier, but she appears well in herself and was hunting here in the Kessock Channel very recently. Hopefully she’ll keep herself well fed and maybe there’ll be another baby for her in a year or so.
