— The Winner’s Curse, Marie Rutkoski
When one character says "I don't like you/want to kiss you/want to marry you" and the other sensually whispers "Liar" yeah that's a good trope
the angst, the yearning, no one is doing it like Arin and Kestrel
Arin and Kestrel by Niru.sky
The Winner's Trilogy
God I miss kestein so much. They did invent and serve the forbidden romance trope. Literally one of the few times I didn't hate it.
"marry him, but be mine in secret" / "you don't, kestrel. even though the God of lies loves you" / "do i still own you?" - "yes"

The snow fell on her, it fell on him, but Kestrel knew that no single flake could ever touch them both. She didn’t look back when he spoke again. “You don’t, Kestrel, even though the god of lies loves you.”
She turned to look at him, and he was already looking at her. “I’m going to miss you when I wake up,” she whispered, because she realized that she must have fallen asleep under the sun. Arin was too real for her imagination. He was a dream. “Don’t wake up,” he said. (insp.)
