I’ve read a couple of romance novels this year and wasn’t really amazed by any of them because most of them kind of lacked in plot/world-building and I felt a bit whatever about them. I read Ice Planet Barbarians because of its popularity and didn’t really enjoy it because it came off as more of a smutty parody. Later, when I saw this being recommended, I thought that it wasn’t going to be anything better. But I took a chance and read it anyway.
and I am SO GLAD that I did. I expected nothing but this book was a total hit for me. This was what I wanted Ice Planet Barbarians to be. It had slow burn, world building, plot, stakes, and the characters were truly alien and strange to each other.
His strange alien planet, the humid jungle he lives in, the politics and religion of his people, their different language and customs. Watching them learn from each other and overcome their differences to fall in love and come together is just so satisfying. It’s so fun to read about human features and quirks through a non-human’s perspective. The only issue is that I’ve just finished the second book so now I’m stuck waiting for the last book in the trilogy to come out in a few months.
This book nailed it tbh, it’s probably the best non-fantasy romance I’ve read this year. Also can we talk about the cover art? The covers get even more beautiful through the trilogy.
I give this book 5🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷spiders out of 5
