True happiness comes from within. | #KevinPaul | #adulting
The meaning of happiness is subjective to every individual, it is really the most abstract but most sought after emotion. If you were to ask an old man and a cheerleader what their definition of happiness is, it would be very different. Currently having lived 20 years on this earth, my meaning of happiness has changed as I have changed as a person.
When we are younger, we seek happiness from gifts, toys, attention, validation and being around people. Yes, that is great for when you are young, but as you transcend into adulthood, these same ideals just do not fit into daily life. Majority of people nowadays spend more time alone, we live in a digitized era. People are seeking happiness through the internet, reason? They do not know where to look. This whole pandemic in the UK has taught me to be self-reliant for my happiness and wellbeing since the news is only negativity and if your inner personal life is chaotic, then you seek outward approval and guess what happens if the world is in turmoil.
For me, the true meaning of happiness is in solitude. Being introspective and being protective over my time. We are all going to die in the end, so when you part your time, you put your dreams and passions before other people. When you have a strong inner personal life, you become much happier. Only when you love yourself and are truly happy can you show kindness and love to others!
Practice spending time alone, become comfortable with it. It is so amazing! Control your thoughts and emotions and you will enjoy the beauties that this world can offer you. Hope you guys enjoyed and stay tuned!

Let go of notifications.
One thing that I recently implemented in my life is turning most of my phone notifications off. If I am being brutally honest, I couldn't care less about somebody I met five years ago that it was their birthday. I had never seen them again in my life. So why was I letting Facebook take up mental free space to let me acknowledge this once a year, now imagine these times a thousand? Everybody you ever met, all their birthdays pop up, why do I care? I don't. Facebook told me you might know this person. How does Mark Zuckerberg know my thoughts? That's when I turned off my Facebook notifications.
The notifications we get on our phones are like little bursts of dopamine. Someone paid attention to us on Snapchat. In reality, it is a real load of nonsense. It deprives the real human connection and numbs the mind. Our brain can only really process a few thoughts, so by bombarding the brain with negativity from the news, social media notifications even random app notifications really confuse the mind. My phone was plastered with random notifications. It really reflected my thought process, not allowing me to think for myself. After turning off all my notifications and organizing my phone screen, I can relax in peace and enjoy my personal free time.
By giving your full priority to notifications, you develop a very reactive mind. Your mind reacts to things quickly on your phone and this translates into actual life. It causes you to react to things more quickly and irrationally rather than coming from a place of peace and calmness.
Well, this article was more of an informal food for thought piece. Hope you guys have a great day and thank you for reading!

Let's talk about consumerism. | #Blog #KevinPaul
My mind was soo obsessed with materialist needs, and I always wanted to fill my void with wants in my life. Sadness would come from not being able to buy every impulse buy I had, whether it was a cool sweater I saw on TV or the latest phone. When I did buy a new phone for my birthday, the novelty of it wore of in 3 days. I became accustom to it. Humans are obsessed with shopping; it is hardwired in our minds from a young age. Adverts showing the latest products, or Kylie Jenner wearing the latest Nike shoes, we as consumers would flock as sheep to the stores to buy it to fill our void with temporary gratification. When you realise how unfulfilling seeking joy from consumerism really is, that is when you become free.
Covid-19 meant we were in lockdown for most of our year. Most people would go to Amazon, or any online store to buy clothes or items just because they were bored and had nothing else to do. One easy way to tackle this, is to find a passion! One thing that consumed me was reading and learning about the stock market. When I did start learning about investing, I realised that the founders of these large companies created a society which would benefit them – consumerism. These same people do not play that game, they invest their money in apple stock rather than buying the iPhone 12. They buy assets which appreciate over time, not depreciate.
Pursuing a simplistic, minimalistic life gives you more financial freedom as you do not have to worry about lifestyle inflation. This occurs when people earn more money, so they spend more money. Instead buy assets, prioritize your health (best investment in my opinion) and travel more! (Experiences will last you a lifetime, and ones you will cherish! Also having less stuff, makes it easier for you to move at will.
One final note I want to say, just because a £200 item was on sale for £100, does not mean you saved £100. You still spent £100. Not spending is basically someone paying you for not giving into your impulse needs. Well, it does not matter what you choose to do now, but I do hope you enjoyed my 2 cent on this say and hope you enjoyed reading this.

How can anyone become a millionaire? | #Adulting | #StudentLifeHacks
Becoming a millionaire is not just a pipe dream for the lucky or few. You do not even have to be a celebrity to have such a net worth. The average Joe, yes you, can become wealthy. What I am about to tell you is the secret sauce, life changing information which will change how you view money. Imagine yourself sitting in Hawaii drinking coconut water, as you lay back on the beach marveling the beauties of life. Now let us make that a reality for you.
The secret to wealth is investing your money. Growing up as a child your parents may have told you to save your money, or there is not enough money to get what you want for Christmas. Saving is fine for some, but it will never make you wealthy. Inflation is the silent killer of saving money. In 2019 the inflation rate in the UK was 1.8% and a typical savings bank account has an interest rate of 0.55%, your money is depreciating at an alarming 1.35% (roughly)! Now, some would ask how to avoid this. Well, you need to start investing your money. You have many options to invest – Gold, debt funding your friend’s start up, real estate, stock market, fixed interest securities or bonds, etc. Each option has its own risk and return. While the fact is that no investment option is risk-free, the better one, I would say is investing on stocks. You might now think that investing on stocks requires being a math expert, doing a lot of analysis on markets, company reports and supply-demand trends. Though I do not deny to some extent, there is a way to invest without much of analysis. Will come to it, in a bit.
You can open any brokerage account; the internet has made that so much easier with many apps allowing you to do so; Trading212 in the UK and Robinhood in the USA. Now let me introduce you to the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index (aka S&P 500).
The S&P 500 is an index holding the top 500 companies in America (e.g., Amazon, Tesla, Apple, Facebook, Google and so on). This index gauges how well the stock market has been doing. For any novice new to investing, this is the safest stock to invest in. The S&P 500 on average has an annual return rate of 10%, that is 20 times more than what you can get from the bank! Some people may say is investing risky. Yes. However, every dip you see, like in 2000-2020, and in 2008. The market has always recovered back to all time highs! In the grand scheme of things not investing your money is the riskiest thing.
Now let us do some calculations, let us take John. John earns £2,000 a month. £1,000 goes to rent, and £500 goes to bills and subscriptions. Now John has £500 left over, he can either spend that money on clothes which will lose value, or waste that money. Now let us see what happens when he saves that money for 40 years. If he saved for 40 years, he would have £240,000, that may seem a lot, but it really is not. Now let us introduce the eight wonder of the world: Compound interest. If John consistently invested his £500 in the S&P500 every month for 40 years his final investment would be £3,188,390.12. He earned a total interest of £2,948,390.12. If he put it in the bank for 40 years at 0.55% interest, his final value would be £268,501.84. Only earning a measly £28,501.84 interest.
So now you know the beauty of compound interest. Also, psychologically as your investments grow in value you become more confident in investing and you start to deposit more money. Then you hit the £1,000,000 a lot sooner than you realised. Thank you for reading this article, and I hope you learned the most powerful lesson life can offer you.
