Over the course of a few hours all of the teenagers assigned to the Key Point Dormitory had arrived. Each pile of pillows had had a name tag on it when the teens had arrived and when the purple guy had gotten up it was clear who had put them there.
“Welcome to The Sulani Institute of Accelerated and Individualized Education. My name is Plum Birdie, just call me Plum. I’m a senior here in the high school division and I’m your designated mature person for the dorm. This is a rarity that we have students from all four years of high school in one dorm but whatever. This is the Key Point Dorm and I’m required to go over some ground rules enforced by the school. No juicing, smoking, weapons, drugs or the like on campus. Not here or in the dorms. Honestly, I don’t care about the first two as long as you don’t bother anyone. Take any smoking outside and if you juice, as long as you’re not sloppy and don’t go to class juiced, I really couldn’t care less. Oh, room assignments! The Prisms are in one room. Sandy and Cherry Liqueur are together and Campari is with Genesis. Hope that’s not an issue. Try not to get pregnant, the dorms are for students not infants, if you give birth and decide to keep it, you and the kid are headed home though I don’t think that really needs to be said. Let’s go around the room and introduce ourselves. Name and grade I guess and a fun fact?” The purple guy, Plum, said.
“I’ll go first! Hi, I’m Cherry Liqueur. You can call me Cherry. I’m a junior and while this whole thing feels like elementary school, I have four siblings including Campari over there.” Cherry said. Everyone else chuckled a bit at the activity.
“Um, Hi. I’m Sandy. I’m a freshman and I was born here in Sulani though my family moved away from the islands when I was a kid, I’ve been homeschooled all my life before now.” Said the yellow girl.
“Hey, I’m August Breeze. I’m a sophomore and I plan on having a career as a painter.” August Breeze said with confidence.
“Er, um, My name is Genesis. I’m also a freshman... I, um, I want to work with computers...” The green haired girl stammered.
“You’re kinda shy, aren’t you?” Cherry said before chuckling. She found the nervous girl kind of cute, like a duckling she wanted to take under her wing. Clearly the girl needed her help.
“Oh, um.” Genesis faltered.
“It’s my turn, ladies. I’m Cantaloupe, Breezy’s twin, so same grade. I’m the more interesting twin. Breezy normally has his head in his painting so if you want excitement, I’m your man.” The second orange boy said. While Cherry didn’t notice, it was clear that Cantaloupe had diverted the conversation to make Genesis feel more at ease than Cherry’s questions.
“Watcher, another one.” The last one sighed.
“What was that?” Cherry asked.
“Nothing. Anyways, I’m Campari or Cam. I’m a junior. I use he/they pronouns. I’m going to say that counts as a fun fact.” Cam said, boredom evident on their face.
“My dorm had six other people in it aside from myself. There was Plum, your uncle, Genesis, Cherry, Campari, and Sandy.”
“Those names sound really familiar.”
“They should. They all played a pretty major part of my life at one point or another.”
