My Cinderella Boy Keysona, Chartreuse, the Doomed Key
Exploration into the key and characters the key could represent down below👇
The Doomed Key represents characters whose fate is decided before they get the chance to fight it. While the doomed character CAN be the Protagonist or Antagonist, it’s rare that those characters don’t fall into the Hero or Villain roles, either way around. More often the holder of the doomed key progresses the story for the protagonist or antagonist, who will keep fighting without them. The doomed character will remain as ghost that haunts the narrative. Sometimes these characters are doomed not by the story, but by the author, and are written more so to drive the plot than they are to exist as their own character.
Because so many doomed characters die in their books, the key started cracking, remaining intact and alive but releasing radiation from within. This key was discontinued from use by Ex Libris due to the negative effects it had on holders, who gained a chronic sickness that worsened after each use of the key. (Think the peacock miraculous effect, but its Radium poisoning💀)
Also yes she is based off of the Radium Girls. Yes Radium was probably not discovered or in commercial use when the keys were forged (technically we don’t know the date but like probably not).
Examples of Doomed Characters in books:
Peony- Cinder
Piggy- Lord of the flies
Ru- the Hunger Games (honestly so many of the tributes would work tho)
Bianca- The Titans Curse
Iphigenia and Polyxena
Sara- the Neptune Project
Beth March- Little Women
Examples from other media:
Eleven- Stranger Things (I didn’t want her to be but that’s just how they wrote her)
The Flying Graysons- DC
Hunter- The Owl House (Fate diverted due to the actions of other characters)
Mercutio- Romeo and Juliet
Jimmy SolidarityGaming- Life Series
Feel free to list more characters that you think would fit in the comments!
Meet Carnie! She represents the Jungian archetype of the creator, any character who has a strong desire to turn imagination into reality. The characters she can play range from artists to inventors, as long as they are strongly creative and innovative.
Since they finally have the freedom to be in their person form most of the time, they spend their free time working on some project or other. They're prone to being over-eager and starting too many projects, forgetting about the ones already in progress.
They also tend to be impulsive and insensitive. They are authentic and speak their mind to a fault, which can cause conflict. Carnie usually feels disdain for the humans of Ex-Libris and their wishes, but she develops an good relationship with Chase, Deacon, Prunella, and her keyholder.
I don't have that many ideas for lore or backstory, and I haven't created her keyholder yet, my only concept for the keyholder is "uninspired writer" who goes into books to try and gain some inspiration. Carnie helps them with their projects, while the keyholder provides understanding to her if she ever feels uninspired - because even the most creative people (or keys) get burned out. Especially since it's her first time having the opportunity and time to do what she wants.
I have two ideas for her key form, which will depend on whatever canon key lore is revealed in season 2, like how long ago the keys were made, and if all the keys were formerly human or if it's just a few (or even just Nox).
