Mavado - My Red Dragon Khameleon AU
So here's the most important in my AU: Mavado!
His appearance doesn't really differ much from his canon appearance in MK1. However...I've struggled so much getting his hair right, then I just said, "Fuck it." and gave him the hairstyle y'all see here (& a few sketches beyond the "Keep reading"). I'll get it right someday!
I think the bio says it all, but I'm still gonna get into the details of him in this AU & his relationship with Khameleon.

"A scuffle between a drug cartel and police in Guatemala left a newborn baby orphaned. Stumbling upon him, Daegon decided to take the child - not only raising him as his son, but also as the coldest, vicious, and most calculating ally he'll ever have.
Mavado had grown to be his father's deadliest warrior, elevated to his second-in-command in the Red Dragon. Armed with grappling hooks, knife boots, and deadly traps, he takes pleasure in taking lives in the name of his father and the syndicate.
His failure in Outworld resulted in a chance to rebound from it, a new feeling called love, and a new ally that would prove an excellent addition to the Red Dragon.
Though his father and allies were worried about his relationship with Khameleon softening him, they were happily proven wrong. If anything, love made him more deadlier than before..."
Half his bio here is my HC for his new origin in MK1's timeline. I mean, he lacked one before, I might as well have fun! I hate to link a Spanish character to a drug cartel, but considering the Red Dragon is a diabolical crime syndicate controlling other criminal organizations, I thought it'd fit more than any safer backstory. The specifics will be revealed when I get to Daegon.
Some facts about Mavado in this AU:
He's in his early 30's in this AU, slightly older than I HC him to be in canon.
He speaks with a faint Guatemalan accent. It's faint 'cause he wasn't raised there all his life, as he & Daegon travelled from place-to-place. Most of his accent is from his adoptive father. His voice also has a rasp to it, even appearing in his laughs.
Pride is a large part of his personality, though it's not exactly the same as, say, Johnny Cage's or General Shao's pride. His pride is more quiet. It also stems from Daegon & the Red Dragon as a whole.
Along with being prideful, Mavado is also cold, cruel, and calculating. He's also mostly quiet & antisocial.
He's not friends with any of his allies, but is a great son to Daegon, like Reiko to Shao. He is somewhat softer when it comes to Khameleon...somewhat. He loves her & cares for her greatly, but he's not above putting the syndicate before her. That said, his love for her has only elevated his coldness & cruelty. Anyone that did cross her or look at her a certain way would pay greatly.
He's got a penchant for charisma & charm, having a silver tongue & the ability to seduce anyone to carry on his missions. It helps that he's a rather handsome man, even with his more rugged appearance.
He's always making sure he's the sexiest motherfucker in the room. Absolutely no one (except Khameleon in certain cases) is allowed to touch his hair. He also rarely wears shirts & always wears leather.
He's made his grappling hooks into stretchy bungee cords 'cause he had fun experimenting with what he could do with them. He's wielded hook swords before…stolen from Kabal before he turned to the Red Dragon. But they're not his go-to, especially not since before that man joined the other side.
His sexuality is the same as I HC it to be: demiromantic/grayromantic & graysexual. To add, he's seduced and slept with both women & men, though he's only ever fallen in love with Khameleon.
He's multilingual: he speaks Spanish (both LatAm & Spain), English, Portuguese (both Brazilian & Portugal), Chinese, Japanese, French, & Russian, to name a few. He always needs to know what his targets/clients are saying at all times, so Daegon taught him the languages he needed to know for the syndicate.

Their Relationship
Mavado's nickname for her is "Kama" 'cause of the Spanish word, "camaleón". Quite literally her name in Spanish with a "C", but with the nickname, it's spelt with a "K"!
Khameleon calls him "my love" & "my Red Dragon", though she wants to call him something more. He doesn't care though, so long as she calls him hers.
They're both equally possessive of each other. While Mavado was more so from the start, as Khameleon embraced her dark side, she mimicked his possessiveness as well. Both find it attractive.
They exclusively train with each other after Khameleon's training period. On both ends, it's actually fun to see how each other fight, test each other's limits, & find new tactics to outwit each other.
Mavado is Khameleon's first everything: first kiss, first love, first bout of intimacy, first sexual experience, first exposure to kinks, etc. Meanwhile, she's his first love, his first training partner (Daegon doesn't count), & his first true friend.
He's always holding her in public, whether it's holding her hand or embracing her from behind. It doesn't matter what the others think of this piece of PDA, he wants to hold her and she allows him to. She's never been held the way he's held her before.
Mavado was not easy on Khameleon when it came to training her to be Red Dragon. Yes, he loves her, but he also wants her to be one of the syndicate's best, so he literally and figuratively pulled no punches. Although it perplexed and saddened her at first, she became hardened enough to understand what he was doing and became thankful.
Khameleon has a higher sex drive thanks to Mavado, but she struggled with it at first due to his graysexuality. But they've managed to communicate about this together and get to an understanding about how their sex life should go. She eventually managed to control it.
I won't go into the details of their kinks, but I will say...they involve pain, bondage, & a few things taboo.
They're a very deadly duo when they have missions together - not only because of Mavado's weaponry & kombat, but also because of Khameleon's transformation, abilities, & shape-shifting weapons. Combined, they can kill plenty in a room and then some with smiles on their faces.
Khameleon grew to like having blood on her. Mavado finds it hot when she's covered in blood.
Everyone gets annoyed at their PDA, but almost all of them know better than to piss off the both of them if they spoke up about it or try to break it apart. The only exception to this is Daegon, though he'd only allow them to hold each other.
They're the most stylish duo of the Red Dragon! Khameleon likes to dress Mavado up with whatever she thinks he would like. More times than not, he lets her, so long as he could return the favor.
They'd die for each other & they'd kill for each other. 💙🩷💚❤️
