I’ve come to a very sad epiphany.

Like, you all know, I think, that Axel disposed of Vexen and Zexion during CoM right?

Well. I’ve read a post not long ago, about how it could be canon that Lea (Axel) was made to watch as, presumably short after BBS ended, the scientists in the Radiant Gardent Laboratory experimented on Isa (Saix) and ultimately released the heartless that consumed his and Lea’s hearts, turning them into Nobodies.

While we don’t exactly know what went on at the time, we do know that Lea and Isa were at one point taken into the laboratory, and I don’t think they entered by themselves. Sure, they were exploring the Castle, but I highly doubt they would’ve been able to enter the laboratory alone; at the time it was surely guarded and/or protected by passwords. Add to that the well known fact that Xehanort and his fellow scientists were experimenting with heartless, and I would say it’s probable Lea and Isa were caught in a very bad place at a very bad time, were brought in by the guards and experimented on in the laboratory.

Now, who were those scientists? Even (Vexen’s name as a Somebody) of course, then presumably Xehanort, and Lea in DDD after awakening mentions that Braig (Xigbar) is missing too from the place, so likely he was there too. Ienzo (Zexion) was a boy at the time, so granted, he couldn’t have done much. but still I think that to somebody who is being treated as a lab rat it doesn’t really matter; Ienzo didn’t help them. And Even/ Vexen, well... we’ve met and fought him in CoM. We know he’s careless, cynical and self absorbed. One can only think what kind of experiments did he operate.

My conclusion? Yes, Axel kind of followed first Marluxia’s and then Saix’s plan and disposed of Vexen and Zexion. Vexen’s disposal was crucial to his mission, but remember? He was smiling at him. And then he made him explode after quickly saying “goodbye” and snapping his fingers. And Zexion? He had Riku’s copy strangle Zexion and absorb his powers. All while he just stood there and watched. Maybe, just maybe, like Ienzo did? Also, Axel didn’t really need to follow Saix’s inkling towards Zexion; Saix was already acting cold and strange at the time, and Axel is a cunning and clever character, so surely he took notice.

So my sad epiphany is: once again Kingdom Hearts is deeper than people realise. And all of that was, yeah, sweet revenge.
