Beautiful morning of yoga, mediation and gardening at The MAYE Center in Long Beach/ Cambodia Town. Laura Som, the founder is a survivor of the Khmer Rouge genocide. She founded this organization to promote self healing within the Cambodian community. It was so beautiful to see elderly Cambodians come alive and empower each other through Meditaion/ Yoga/ (urban) Agriculture/ & Education. I hope to one day see spaces like this in all Cambodian communities. Everyone here was incredibly welcoming and Laura is such an inspiration. Thank you for your hospitality, sharing your knowledge and creating a space that allows for growth on so many levels. America by the Numbers - Pass or Fail in Cambodia Town

This segment on PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) looks into the lives of Cambodian-Americans in Long Beach, CA by highlighting the stories and experiences of First-Generation and Second-Generation Cambodian-Americans. Struggle and perseverance are constant themes as the episode highlights the Khmer Rouge genocide and the hardships of resettlement in the United States. Through a variety of perspectives such as a formerly incarcerated and upcoming rapper Alex Pham, high-school Senior Shameka Min, and community-organizers Seng So of Khmer Girls in Action, and Sara Pol-Lim of United Cambodian Community, their narratives are told.
