ਸਾਡੇ ਖੂਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਸਦਾ ਰੱਬ ਨੀਂ…

ਆਓ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਵੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਖੂਹ ਦੀ ਸੈਰ ਕਰਾਈਏ। ਸਾਡੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਦਾਸਕੀ ਪੱਤੀ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੀ ਖੂਹ ਸੀ। ਨੇੜੇ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਆਈਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਖੂਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਉਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਸੀ। ਖੇਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੰਜਾਈ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਖੂਹ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਸਾਧਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਵਾਰੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਖੂਹ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਸਾਡੇ ਖੂਹ ਦੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਦਿਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ। ਜਦੋਂ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਜਾਈ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਕਈ ਕਈ ਦਿਨ ਖੂਹ ਬੰਦ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।

ਜਦੋਂ ਖੂਹ ਦੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਅਕਸਰ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ-ਕਾਪੀਆਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਖੂਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਖੂਹ ਚਲਾ ਰਹੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਭੱਤਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਖੂਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਇੰਨੂੰ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਲੱਸੀ ਦੀ ਗੜਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਗੜਵੀ ਉੱਪਰ ਪੋਣੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੱਧੀਆਂ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ, ਆਚਾਰ ਜਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਤਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਭੋਂਨਵੀ ਸਬਜ਼ੀ। ਵਿੰਗ ਤੜਿੰਗੀ ਡੰਡੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੌਲੀ-ਹੌਲੀ ਤੁਰਦਾ। ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਗਾਧੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਲੀ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਬਲਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਕਦਾ। ਬਲਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਦਿਖਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਦੋਹਾਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਖੋਪੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਬਲਦ, ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਹੌਲੀ-ਹੌਲੀ ਦਾਇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ। ਬਲਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੱਧੇ ਘੁੰਗਰੂ ਛਣ-ਛਣ ਦਾ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ।

ਆਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਗਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੌਲੀ-ਹੌਲੀ ਤੁਰਦਾ। ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੈਠ ਜਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਆਰਾ ਭਰ ਜਾਵੇ, ਮੈਂ ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਲੇ ਕਿਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਦੇ ਦਿਆਂ।

ਫ਼ਸਲਾਂ ਮੌਲਦੀਆਂ, ਵਿਗਸਦੀਆਂ, ਮੱਕੀ ਦੇ ਟਾਂਡਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਲੀਆਂ ਲੱਗਦੀਆਂ। ਦੂਧੀਆ ਦਾਣੇ ਪੈਂਦੇ। ਛੱਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਂ ਤੋਤੇ ਪੈਂਦੇ। ਮੈਂ ਗੁਲੇਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪੰਛੀ ਉਡਾਉਂਦਾ। ਖਾਲੀ ਪੀਪਾ ਵਜਾਉਂਦਾ, ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਡਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਜਾਉਂਦਾ। ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਖੂਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ। ਚੰਦ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਆਉਂਦਾ। ਆਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਸਤ ਚਾਲੇ ਤੁਰ ਰਹੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਚੰਦ ਚਾਨਣੀ ਤੁਰਦੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ। ਪਾਣੀ ਲਿਸ਼ਕਦਾ। ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕਾਮਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਛੱਡ ਆਉਂਦਾ।

ਖੂਹ ਦੀ ਬਣਤਰ ਕੁਝ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੀ। ਖਿੰਗਾਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੇ ਬਣੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਦਸ ਫੁੱਟ ਦੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਥੜ੍ਹੇ ’ਤੇ ਦੋ ਸਮਾਂਤਰ ਚੰਨੇ ਸਨ। ਦੋਹਾਂ ਚੰਨਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਾਸਲਾ ਕਰੀਬ ਵੀਹ ਫੁੱਟ ਦਾ ਸੀ। ਚੰਨਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੋਟਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਕਿੱਕਰ ਜਾਂ ਜੰਡ ਦਾ ਤਕੜਾ ਮੋਛਾ ਫਿੱਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਦੋ ਗਰਾਰੀਦਾਰ ਲੋਹੇ/ਲੱਕੜ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਢੋਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਧੁਰਾ ਜਾਂ ਕਾਂਜਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਝੋਲ ਵਾਲੀ ਲੱਕੜ ਦੇ ਸਿਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਗਾਧੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ। ਖੂਹ ਚਲਦਾ ਸੀ। ਵੱਡੇ ਢੋਲ ਤੇ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੇ ਨਿੱਕੇ ਢੋਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਗਰਾਰੀਆਂ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਢੋਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਕਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਆਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਬੈੜ ਉੱਪਰ ਮ੍ਹਾਲ (ਚੇਨ) ਨਾਲ ਬੱਧੀਆਂ ਟਿੰਡਾਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਖੂਹ ਗਿੜਦਾ। ਮ੍ਹਾਲ ਚਲਦੀ। ਮ੍ਹਾਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਫਿੱਟ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਟਿੰਡਾਂ ਖੂਹ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ। ਟਿੰਡਾਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਚੇਨ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਰੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਉਂਦੀਆਂ। ਪਾਣੀ ਪਾਛੜੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟਦੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਫੇਰ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਖੂਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਲੀਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ। ਪਾਛੜੇ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਲੋਹੇ ਦੇ ਪਨਾਲੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਔਲੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ। ਆਡ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੈਲੀ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ। ਕਿਸੇ ਸੰਕਟ ਸਮੇਂ ਖੂਹ ਕਿਤੇ ਪੁੱਠਾ ਨਾ ਗਿੜਨ ਲਗ ਪਏ, ਇਸ ਖਾਤਰ ਕੁੱਤਾ ਫਿੱਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਖੂਹ ਚਲਦਾ ਤੇ ਕੁੱਤਾ ਟਿਕ ਟਿਕ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਦਿੰਦਾ। ਕੁੱਤੇ ਦੀ ਟਿਕ ਟਿਕ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼, ਪਾੜਛੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਿੱਗਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ  ਛਰ ਛਰ ਦੀ ਸੁਰ, ਆਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਲਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸਾਂ ਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਨਸੋਅ, ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੱਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਖੜ-ਖੜ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼, ਬਲਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਘੁੰਗਰੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਛਣਕਾਰ, ਮੱਝਾਂ ਚਾਰਦੇ ਵਾਗੀ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਦੇ ਹੋਠਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੀਰ ਦੀ ਲੰਮੀ ਹੇਕ, ਕਸੀਦਾ ਕੱਢਦੀਆਂ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਗੀਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਧੁਰ ਆਵਾਜ਼। ਇਹ ਸੱਤ ਆਵਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਤਰੰਗੀ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਹੇਕ ਅਸਮਾਨੀ ਪਈ ਸਤਰੰਗੀ ਪੀਂਘ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਗਲਵਕੜੀ ਪਾਉਂਦੀ।

ਖੂਹ ਦੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਚੰਨਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੂਰੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਿੱਪਲ ਤੇ ਬੋਹੜ ਦਾ ਜੋੜਾ ਸੀ। ਪਿੱਪਲ ਤੇ ਬੋਹੜ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਜੋੜਾ ਚੰਨੇ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਜੋੜਾ ਚੰਨੇ ਦੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ। ਇਹ ਚਾਰੇ ਬਿਰਖ ਬਹੁਤ ਘਣੇ, ਫੈਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਤੇ ਸੰਘਣੀ ਛਾਂ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਉੱਪਰੋਂ ਆਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਿੱਪਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੋਹੜਾਂ ਨੇ ਗਲਵਕੜੀ ਪਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਿਰਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੰਛੀ ਬੈਠਦੇ, ਆਲ੍ਹਣੇ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ, ਗੁਫ਼ਤਗੂ ਕਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ।

ਖੂਹ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਸੀ। ਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਰੁੱਤੇ ਇੱਥੇ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ। ਬਿਰਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪੀਂਘਾਂ ਪਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ। ਪੀਂਘਾਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ। ਅਸਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਛੱਤ ਨਾਲ ਜਾ ਲਮਕਦੀਆਂ। ਕਈ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਡ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ, ਉਹ ਆਸਮਾਨੀ ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ। ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਘਰੀਂ ਵਰ੍ਹ ਪੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ। ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਪਿੱਪਲਾਂ, ਬੋਹੜਾਂ ਦੀ ਛਾਵੇਂ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਕੁਝ ਬੁਣਦੀਆਂ, ਕੁਝ ਕੱਢਦੀਆਂ-ਛਿੱਕੂ, ਟੋਕਰੀ, ਪਟਾਰੀ, ਪੱਖੀਆਂ, ਨਾਲੇ, ਪਰਾਂਦੇ, ਪੀਹੜੀ, ਮੂਹੜਾ, ਫੁਲਕਾਰੀ, ਸਿਰਹਾਣੇ, ਤਾਹਰੂ, ਮਖੇਰਨਾ, ਖੋਪੇ, ਬਾਗ, ਰੁਮਾਲ, ਚਾਦਰਾਂ ਆਦਿ। ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਔਲੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਧੋਂਦੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਗਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।

ਖੂਹ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕਈ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਹਿਕਦਾ, ਹੱਸਦਾ ਤੇ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਖੂਹ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕਦੀ ਪਤਝੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਆਈ, ਉਸ ’ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਬਹਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ। ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪਿੰਡੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਨਿੱਕਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਸਦਾ ਸੀ। ਕਈ ਸਾਲ ਬੀਤ ਗਏ। ਹੁਣ ਇਹ ਖੂਹ ਵੀਰਾਨ ਹੈ, ਉਜਾੜ ਹੈ, ਉਦਾਸ ਹੈ। ਪਿੱਪਲਾਂ, ਬੋਹੜਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੋੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਮਾਨਵੀ ਜੋੜੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹਨ। ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਚੰਨੇ, ਢੋਲ, ਲੱਠ, ਮ੍ਹਾਲ, ਟਿੰਡਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਾੜਛਾ?  ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਭੌਂਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵੱਢਦੇ ਵੀ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਟਿਕ ਟਿਕ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੰਗੀਤਕ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਕੱਢਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੁੱਤਾ ਦੇਰ ਦਾ ਚੁੱਪ ਹੈ। ਖੂਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਹਨੇਰੀ ਖਡੱਲ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੰਧਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿੱਪਲ ਤੇ ਬੋਹੜ ਉੱਗ ਪਏ ਹਨ। ਵੀਰਾਨ ਖੂਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੋਰਾ ਭਰ ਵੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਸੌ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਬਿਰਧ ਬਾਬੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਡੂੰਘੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੇ ਜਿਹੇ ਹੰਝੂਆਂ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਵੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ। ਤਾਣੇ ਉਲਝ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਧਾਗੇ ਟੁੱਟ ਗਏ ਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਖੁਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਹੁਣ ਇਹ ਗੀਤ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੋਠਾਂ ਉੱਤੋਂ ਆਉਣੋਂ ਸੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ: ਬਣ ਠਣ ਨੀਂ, ਸੱਜ ਫੱਬ ਨੀਂ, ਸਾਡੇ ਖੂਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਸਦਾ ਰੱਬ ਨੀਂ।
