Lightning bugs

The elder had been very insistent on bringing him out of the house— and seeing that he was a guest (and a good child too, at that), Itachi followed suit, vision completely obscured by her hands.

Not for long, however.

After a short while of walking across the perfectly manicured lawn, he was brought to a gentle halt.

And with that, she removed her hands from his eyes.

He blinked then, dark eyes steadily growing adjusted to the steep contrast of light and dark. He had just been in a well lit living room a moment earlier.

"…"

Then he smiled, expression brightening in wonder. He had seen fireflies before, but never this many.

"This is incredible, Ino-san."

"Are they always out at this time?"

Little, golden dots were reflected in his serious, dark eyes. Marvelling at the sight of so many fireflies, he probably didn't know that he had also become a sight in his child-like wonder. She was watching him, a soft smile on her face as he praised the fireflies.

“Yes, only during the warmer nights,” she added as an afterthought.

They were swarming around the pair in some mysterious dance that no scientist could eloquently describe. “Funny, isn't it? Nobody notices these flies when it's bright outside and other things take our attention. But at night... they light up this place like it's magic.”

She spread her fingers out, laughing as the tips lit up from the amber glow of the flies.

“Do you want to know what they are thinking?"

"I could find out for you if you'd like.”

She could. Her jutsu could penetrate any creature with a mind- but not many people wanted to know the thoughts of the animals around them. They were insignificant and inconsequential in many people's lives... but perhaps Itachi would not want her to invade the minds of these creatures for no reason. 

Even little beings could have secrets of their own. Plus, she didn't want the boy to catch a cold.

Yet another visitor? Was it the blonde again?

—Ah, no. Not quite. 

The young boy stared at the other, a touch of confusion settling over his features as the silence between them stretched. There were several individuals he had recognized here, even if they were years ahead of him but this one… This one did not fall under that category.

Itachi did not know him.

"… I’m sorry? Do I know you?"

"Yup~" 

He smiled sweetly, "Or rather you will~" Gremmy clarified, before continuing unable to help himself, "You'll be my papa 'tachi~" 

"But anyway~ I brought you sweets~ Cause Ino-san doesn't let me eat as many as before!" 

It was making him happy having 'tachi shorter than him, Gremmy was used to being the smallest in the area and he wanted to be able to be the 'big brother' for a change.
