Okay then. GIVE ME CHRISTMAS KID GRUMPS I DEMAND IT
YOU ASKED FOR IT, HERE IT GOES.
So what I’m imagining here is their little family traditions. Like, on Christmas Eve, they all snuggle together in front of the TV and watch a Christmas movie or two like Charlie Brown’s Christmas or Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer or Santa Claus is Coming to town. They do that a little earlier in the day, and then afterwards, they all pile into their giant family car and drive around looking at Christmas lights and ogling the decorations.
Then they all try to sleep. Danny and Barry don’t have it quite as bad because they don’t have to worry about trying to catch Santa, but they’re still antsy because they get a few presents too (they get most of their gifts on Hanukkah, though, which I’ll talk about in your other ask). There’s a little plate of cookies in the kitchen (they tried to bake the cookies themselves one year but it was almost impossible with all of the small children trying to “help”, they just do store-bought now). And there’s a note from all of them that the kids dictated and Vernon/Jack wrote (and then let the kids sign) so it’s like a full page of “Santa, we love you, tell all the reindeer we said hi. and also all the elves. How many elves are there. Please write back. We need to know.”
Brian doesn’t believe in Santa anymore, but there’s a little part of him that still kind of wants to, so he tries to get the truth out of Danny/Barry just for his own peace of mind. But they’re vowed to silence so they won’t tell him no matter how hard he tries.
On Christmas morning, Ross is probably the first to wake up. Or one of the girls. But because they all slept in Arin’s room so they could all wait for Santa together, they all consequently end up waking up soon after. So they all run out to the living room where the tree is set up (oh shit I forgot the tree, I’ll do that in a sec), dragging very tired Vernon and Jack with them and rushing to their little pre-designated sections of the room where all their presents are piled up. And there are so many little home movies of them ripping open presents and gushing over their gifts and toys and things.
Okay, backtracking to setting up the tree: they get a real tree because we’re having an authentic christmas dammit. And they have a chart of who gets to pick the tree each year because they tried once to let everyone have a say and god that was a disaster. And then they all set it up. Holly organizes the plushies and fake snow and things that they put all over the living room while Suzy follows closely behind, placing candles meticulously amongst her decorations.
Danny and Brian are constantly being passed ornaments to hang because they’re the tallest, which occasionally get passed to Vernon or Jack because they can actually reach the top of the tree. And they all decide who gets held up to put the star on top of the tree this time. Arin likes to put tinsel on literally everything because it’s glittery and sparkles. Ross always tries to sneak plastic dinosaurs in the little nativity scene and sometimes they go days without realizing. Kevin and Barry set up their little “how many days until Christmas” board and hang the stockings (the nails are already in the wall, no hammering for these children).
