My latest Coolhurst release, featuring that talented Baltimore MC Substantial is now available everywhere, including itunes and Juno Download. Press notes below
_______________________________________________________
Coolhurst makes a welcome return, with previous collaborator Substantial on vocal duties with his latest EP, “Can’t Win For Losin”.
On the title track, Substantial chronicles his exasperation with the mundanities of life and its struggles, over a uptempo drums, bass and killer brass section is reminiscent of northern soul at its catchiest.
The jump-up sound of “MFTB” features a heavy, take-no-prisoners percussion, funked out horn section, and Substantial’s simple call to action - perfect for firing up dancefloors as summer approaches.
Lastly, “Dance” get’s a soulful, lounge reworking. With its percussive groove, and Substantial’s great vocal delivery, it will sound as good at home as it does on the floor.
Disco Dirtbox take a break from remixing others with the forthcoming release of debut single “Afro Croissant”. Enjoy this cut up Detroit disco with classic 80’s twist alongside swirling synths. Due for release on Midnight Riot Vol 2 in July 2012.
Where do all the unreleased tracks go?
I doubt I’m the only producer with have a hard drive containing various projects that have not seen the light of day. Mine includes a mixture of half-baked ideas, completed tracks, edits or reworks of the well-known and the not-so-well-known. A couple of months ago while playing at a gig, we got chatting to another producer friend of ours. This fine gentleman has built himself a reputation for highly regarded reworks, edits and latterly original tracks and remixes. He asked me about a particular track me and my production partner had played him last year, and whether we had finished it. I had to tell him that I had completely forgotten about this track and thanked him for reminding me. I’m sure I’m not alone in starting something that subsequently gets left on the shelf for several months, even if it’s been finished.
We road-tested this track and knew it had potential, but the poor little mite got lost in the gigabits of hard drive oblivion. God knows when it would have resurfaced were it not for our friend's gentle reminder.
So, with a little more work on it and a sprinkling of our friends musical magic, that track became ‘Afro Croissant’. Sometimes, you just can’t beat a gentle reminder.
The is the debut Disco Dirtbox release by me and Paul Barkworth. Afro Croissant is forthcoming on Midnight Riot. Keep yer ears (and eyes peeled).
This Bank Holiday Sunday.....
The Bank Holiday Disco Tech is shaping up nicely folks. Roadtrip is the location, in sunny Shoreditch.
Don't miss out on a headline set from ISM Records head honcho Yam Who?. The Yamster has been holed up in the studio working with the legendary Odyssey on a forthcoming album release on ISM, as well as their storming live show. He always comes correct with the disco nuggets.
Joining him will be Disco Dirtbox, ISM's latest signing comprising moi and Paul Barkworth. We're getting all secret weapons ready, for the full discotech showdown (booty girls on standby).
We also have the Black Tie DJs hosting the Workshop basement with their own brand of deep house and techno.
So don't sleep, remember it's free and the action goes on until 5am.
Nice!
