My kid Frodo is back :) here a little doodle.
Here are some uncle!shield family feels to kick the day off for everyone. I really wanted to have had this finished by my birthday, but that didn’t happen. So an AU with a younger Frodo being adopted by King and Consort under the mountain.
Consort!Bilbo AU where Bilbo remains in Erebor to rule at Thorin’s side as King and Consort, before they are married in the following spring after the battle:
Bilbo being Thorin’s most trusted advisor and confidant while he rules, as well as giving advice and confidence to council sessions toward disgruntled dwarf lords, who are still slightly annoyed by the choice of consort the king. Not that Thorin cares, of course, he is busy watching his hobbit at his side, as he easily tames the mighty dwarf lords with cutting truths and promises.
Bilbo having a sharp tongue toward exceptionally rude dwarf lords (after all those years dealing with bloody Lobelia Sackville Baggins how could he not?) but still has a soft side for Thorin and his loyal followers.
Bilbo practically smuggling a protesting Thorin out of the kingdom on particularly sunny days. Thorin stating that he has far too much work today, I mean he has to oversee developments on the old temples, raven hill still needs new huts for the messenger birds, there's that problem in the Durin Mining sector that he needs to decide upon, gold to count to give away, stone to polish and fix, then there is that meeting with Dain and Balin which he cannot miss again since he’s missed the last three- Bilbo silences him with kisses and the king is helplessly compliant to his hobbits whims.
Bilbo and Thorin planting the acorn in the lands just to the west of Erebor and watching it slowly grow old together with them.
Bilbo dragging Thorin out for picnics, near the grasslands in Dale. Bilbo practically tossing the kings crown to the side like some sort of problematic potato, even when Thorin protests that he must remain wearing it at all times. Bilbo silences him with kisses again (the delicious apple bread and mulled cider Bilbo prepared does pad the blow as well) and nudges Thorin to sit and rest for a while.
Guards finding the king and his consort still curled up on the picnic blanket many hours later and rolling their eyes at the pair, who are smiling stupidly and feeding each other strawberries dipped in cream, completely unaware of the guards and of the kingdom currently in meltdown panic because of the lost royals.
Bilbo, in the early days of rule, having to be dressed every morning in the finest silks, furs, and jewels. Thorin making many of the jewels himself and selecting the best gems to decorate Bilbo’s hair to match his soft eyes, whilst engraving protective runes of his people into ear-cuffs and having Bilbo wear them at all time.
Bilbo having great difficulties waddling around the kingdom dressed in such heavy attire. He refuses to wear the garments after a certain embarrassing day when Bilbo was out for his walk around Dale and decided to rest in a meadow, sitting down among flowers, trees, and grass for a quick rest, before deciding to be on his way. Only he found out that not only were the gowns not made for proper outside use but they were also not made for sitting in fields! He struggled to stand, but could only get halfway up before the gold would weigh him down and send him flopping back into the earth with a sigh. He is eventually found by some guards and is helped to his feet and he never wears those clothes ever again.
Bilbo getting bored during the royal portrait that contains himself, Thorin, Fili, Kili, and Dis. All are dressed in their finest royal garments and smiling regally at the royal painter before Bilbo starts pulling strange faces and making Fili and Kili laugh, Dis to snort undignified into her hand, and Thorin to smirk at his consort at his side. The painter is just sat there like ‘??? Are you kidding me.’ then storms out.
Thorin finding the ‘Consorts Crown’ within the halls of Erebor, which is what his mother wore when he was a child and all those before her who married into the line of Durin. Each queen/consort placed a gem into the crown while they were in rule, his mothers own gem was and Iolite. Thorin presented the crown to Bilbo and explained all this and the hobbit worried about adding his own gem because he wasn't a gifted craftsmen (accept with food, of course) and had never worked metal. Thorin understood this and also presents Bilbo with a flawless Green Amber that he had also found and promised to engrave whatever Bilbo wanted to it and add it to the crown, as Bilbo would now be part of the legacy of his people. Bilbo couldn't have been happier.
Bilbo and Thorin engraving an acorn onto the amber and setting it into the crown.
Bilbo waiting by the fire late at night with a pot of tea at his side and patiently waiting for his husband to return home before he goes to bed. Thorin marches in just before dawn and throws his crown to the side and toes his boots of so quickly that he almost falls over. Bilbo just watched him hunch over and sigh before walking behind him and standing on his tiptoes to slide his arms around the kings shoulders. ‘Amralime, I did not hear you. Did I wake you?’ ‘No, I was waiting for you. Is everything well?’
Bilbo and Thorin sitting up late at night and discussing the kings daily affairs. Talking about the supposed fears of the dwarves in the blue moutains that Thorin might still be swayed into dragon sickness and bring the great darkness upon them again. Bilbo being Thorin’s personal confidant (and the proud owner of the kings heart) when the king is having problems that are too personal to discuss with Balin or Dwalin. Bilbo sitting Thorin on the floor and himself in a chair so he can braid and run his fingers through the kings raven hair as he speaks to comfort him. Bilbo allowing Thorin to lean against him so he can kiss the kings temple and forehead. Thorin finding great comfort in Bilbo as his souls other half and his consort.
Baby Frodo Bonus!
Bilbo having to adopt little Frodo after his parents dies but Bilbo cannot bring himself to leave Erebor forever. So he takes the little one with him back to the kingdom and explain that they were going to live in Bilbo’s kingdom with his husband. Frodo bounces with excitement because ‘wow uncle Bilbo has a palace!!’
Thorin being scared at first to hold or carry Frodo because the little one is so tiny (barely even coming up to the kings knee) and Thorin’s hands are quite rough from years of sword training and forge working that he is scared he will hurt the little hobbit. However, Frodo loves climbing into Thorin’s huge arms and on his shoulders because he feels so tall, and of course Thorin allows it. He’s a complete sap for both of his hobbits.
Frodo and Bilbo having Thorin wrapped around their little fingers.
Thorin trying to dress Frodo in amazing bangles, crowns, rings, and silks. ‘He is a prince. Prince Frodo of dwarfdom and the Shire, so he must dress accordingly!’ ‘Thorin, you complete tosser. He’s not a prince! He’s not even a dwarf! He doesn't need titles.’ ‘Oh hush, he enjoys it.’ ‘No, take it off him now before he hurts himself!’ ‘Clothing is not dangerous-’ ‘He could take an eye out with those rings!’
Bilbo checking on Frodo in his crib later and spotting a small silver and sapphire studded circlet resting atop his dark curls. The hobbit consort huffs and rolls his eyes, though he is smiling fondly and petting the fauntlings hair. Wondering how why he is married to such a goof, then remembers that he loves him with all his heart.
