4 years later...

One of the best decisions I have made in my life was to be an organ donor.

Not just an organ donor but also a living donor. This little guy (my nephew) is amazing and I am proud to say I played a part in that.

Not only is today our 4 year Kidneyversary but it is also his very first day of school!!

He has had a rough go of things. His kidney isn't doing so well, but here we are 4 years kidney strong. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he gets more time out of this kidney but I know it will last as long as it is supposed to last.

Once a gift is given you cannot control what happens to it only hope that the recipient will do their best to care for it.

He is...he and his Momma and their team work hard every day to keep his kidney healthy. I am grateful to have played a part in these past four years of his growing and changing.

I am grateful for every second that kidney helps him. I will also be first in line to help him find his new kidney when the time comes, there will be no sadness from me.

I only wish health and happiness for the little one and his Momma.

Here's to 4 years and counting!

Same post from last year....6th year Kidney Anniversary today 6/10/17 💜This year we had to face the terrible news that my little kidney is starting to give out Inside Carlos. Despite the rejection news, Carlos is doing well. He endured 3 IVIG treatments in the last 3 months. We are holding on to Hope that the treatment worked. We won't know for sure until July. "Four years ago today I was a living kidney donor for my Great Uncle Arnold. He was 100% against a family member donating. He made it very clear he would wait on the list. We honored his wishes, but after over 2-1/2 years on the list and still no call, I knew he was going to die if he didn't get a kidney soon. He was in the hospital every month for one thing or another. I finally turned 18 and behind his back, I went and got tested. The hospital was reluctant to test me because I was only 18. I had over five meetings before they even did the blood test to see if we were a match. But when they finally did, we were a perfect match, so perfect that they made me do another blood test to be sure! It took over six months to get all of my testing finished and a lot of convincing for my uncle to agree to let me be his donor. On January 11, 2011 we had our transplant at St. Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey." -- Christine Archer of East Windsor, NJ.
