thinking about kieran and his loyalty to neva and how much of that stems from the fact that she's never once treated him like he was fragile (even when, at the start of their partnership, he most definitely was!).

thinking about how both of them extended that same courtesy to shaw when kieran brought him to the court and how much shaw appreciated it and still appreciates it. so much of the council still walks on eggshells around him.

also it occurs to me that the muse who could relate most to what kieran has been through (and vice versa actually) is salem, but because of the specific circumstances for each of them, they'd never, ever, ever trust each other and would, in fact, hate each other immediately.

Some Neva facts:

She became the ruler of a small court through marriage and violence.

She’s always wanted power and was willing to do anything to get it.

She married into it, in a court known for violence

Her husband was awful and that was fine because so is she, and then he thought he could be awful to her and that was absolutely not fine

She killed him. No hesitation, no regret, no secrets.

Her court respects violence and had no problem with her methods

She’s been in charger for a couple of centuries now

Kieran has been her second-in-command for almost her entire reign

He’s a good balance to her -- talking her down when needed, but also letting her be feral when the occasion calls for it. He’s also never hesitated to help her or to kill when needed.

She won’t consult him on matters that involve mortals or anyone from the mortal realm. All of his calm rational is out the window under that circumstance and they both know it. He’s not offended by her choice her, but he is still irritated by it.
