Thanks so so much @tananaphone for the tag, this was really fun and very fascinating!!

I’d like to talk about Kilderan’s name specifically in this post, mostly because while all of the names in the Hera trilogy came from my imagination, his is one I am particularly proud of. Whether intentionally or by accident, the suffix -eran appears in a few names besides his throughout the trilogy. I’m still a bit undecided on what exactly it translates to in terms of the language used in Hera (not English, it is occasionally referred to as the Primary Language--though there are numerous other languages besides the one used almost everywhere in the galaxy but more on that later--and there are mentions of words written out in characters rather than letters, but there isn’t a definitive guide to it. …yet) but very roughly it means both “to be/to have” and (very roughly, translated as abstractly as is possible) “sun”, in that the sun(s) is the eternal provider of life, light, and energy and therefore is a great representation/symbol of “being” or “to be”. So all in all, a very powerful and almost sacred suffix to end a name with. -Eran is not commonly used, so the fact that it appears more than once in characters’ names is noteworthy. Suffixes are often passed down from father to son/mother to daughter much like a surname would be, thus making the only original part of one’s name the preceding word. 

The first part of Kilderan’s name, "Kil(d)", can possibly be translated as “forest/woods”, so to translate his name along the lines of the current etymology of Hera language, it would mean “he who is of the forest” or, if we translated -eran as “sun”, “the sun through the trees”.

And you carry such a grave burden.” She gave him a small smile. "

Lights:

There were likely a myriad ships beyond that peaceful atmosphere, gliding amongst the stars and flashing neon lights of spaceports, one step closer to the goddesses who had birthed the galaxy.

Cheer:

He would merely watch, and not participate, but he was filled with some innocent, childish sorrow of the mature realization that he would also never join in the cheer and mirth that mortals would.

Vow:

No vows? Not even Kilderan vowing to protect Rynn with his life? I can't believe this, Kilderan.

Kiss:

" Kilderan released Rynn’s hand to cup his face. He leaned forward and then bent, placing a chaste kiss against the boy’s forehead. When he stared into Rynn’s large brown eyes again there was a sort of tranquility about his features. "

Ok, so maybe this kiss also counts as a vow?

Final:

" They reached the sunbeam-tipped crowns of a few more dunes when finally the ship came into view amongst a ring of hills. Yojackson turned almost completely around in his seat to be certain their pursuers had given up and the speeder collided with a decently sized dune. They were all thrown from the vehicle and Rynn, [Priestess], and Kilderan cried out. "

Relief:

" The woman began to choke and after the fit ceased, she responded, “She…she…” She cast her eyes toward the blue sky, so oblivious to the tragedy unfolding beneath its cheerful wings. “She escaped.”

[Priestess] sighed in relief. "

Temper:

You're telling me no one loses their temper in this book? Really? I couldn't find the word, so...

Wine:

In a story where alcohol and taverns are basically a second home to Rynn and his companions, it's odd that this word never showed up once! Perhaps later in the trilogy they'll be drinking something higher-class than cheap beer...

Guest:

....And guest was not found either! Oh well.

Ok so there were really only two sneak peeks, but that's ok! I hope you enjoyed this little blip!
