Concept

When you wanna smuggle your own food into the cinema/theatre, try and buy stuff in reasonably small plastic packets. (E.G a treat bag of Revels) Because then, you can do what I did yesterday. Take an umbrella with you to the movies. Roll up the packet/s of sweets as tightly as you can, until it’s shaped like a small cylinder. Open the umbrella just enough to slip the rolled-up packet in. Close the umbrella, and use the little strap thing on it to keep it tied shut. If they search your bags for hidden snacks, they’re highly unlikely to open out an umbrella because who hides snacks in an umbrella?? Not me. Obviously. O B V I O U S L Y.

P.S If you’re in the UK, get snacks from poundland. Anywhere else? I’m not sure tbh. Dollar stores??? I have no clue. But here, you can pay £3.50 for a packet of Revels in the cinema lobby, when you can get the exact same packet for 3.5 times less pretty much ANYWHERE else. Also this probably won’t work if you’re in the middle of a drought/heatwave. It had been raining when I did this, which is why I had the umbrella. They do not expect you to hide packets of Poundland Revels in a wet umbrella.

So here’s my take on “the struggle” in Amerikkka, or any oppressive system like this. 

I am often given heat by white men (or white women even), about how hard they have worked to get to where they are. That could be in any high ranked position of which I will avoid specifying. Yes, in order to get to a high ranking position, one must work for it, and I’m sure from their perspective, they faced obstacles. Those obstacles, though, were most likely JUST the stepping stones to getting to the next level. Following the systematic approach, and maybe even going above and beyond, because they could. For our other fellow lower-class citizens, not only did they have to face the approach itself, but the system putting up road blocks that make it frustrating and even seemingly, maybe even actually, impossible to accomplish the same goal. Without the money, the prestige, the skin color, the heritage, the mental and emotional outlook, the social skills, etc. etc., if you don’t fit the mold, you will definitely have those that fall within the status quo nipping at your heels, knocking you down on your way up, stepping on you and pushing you back down, in whatever form necessary. It’s easy for them because they have the resources. 

So when I find myself getting knocked down, being told that if I “work hard” I will get what I aim for, I just remember that it’s not my fault that I lack the resources necessary to “get ahead” in a society I have 0 respect for. If I am misunderstood, ostracized, or mistreated for that, I can only be proud of myself for having the strength to just carry on at this point. Because I have seen those who have had it “Hard” (easy) lose.their.shit. because they have never really had to deal with real loss, and have had to crawl and claw their way back to the spot that the elite comfortably occupy.

On another note::: Applying for a passport is proving so much more difficult than I could have imagined. I have never heard of it being this difficult. I want to believe there has to be an easier way, but everywhere I turn, I keep getting road blocked. I definitely feel like Truman when he was trying to leave the country for Fiji.
