a few years after everything's over and kevin's finally graduating from college, and he and sam have had these feelings between them for a long time without acting, both of them second-guessing themselves and feeling like it wasn't the right place or the right time and sam and dean go to kevin's graduation, they're so happy for him for being able to have this, and kevin receives his diploma, and then later they find him when the ceremony's over, and kevin gives dean a hug, then sam sam can't stop grinning at him, so wide his face hurts and so proud, and kevin's grinning back, and sam squeezes him so hard that kevin feigns not being able to breathe, so sam lets him go a little bit, holds him at arm's length "you did it, kev," he says, and if he's blinking hard to keep his emotions in check, it's because kevin's so damn amazing to him he can't help it--kevin who never gave up on himself or the world, who ran himself ragged to help them close hell's gates and then went on to get a degree like he wanted; kevin who isn't a kid anymore, if he ever was kevin's eyes are bright, he's staring up at sam from not so far away at all, and on some crazy impulse sam takes kevin's face in his hands and kisses him. kevin stills, and at first sam wonders if he's read all the signs wrong over the years, but then kevin launches himself into the kiss with a noise like the best graduation gift ever is just *sam*, clutching at sam's shoulders and from beside them, dean goes, "fuckin' *finally*"
