New fanfiction for Killing, an Excuse by @the-horcrux-hung-itself
Cassian is walking beside me, playfully holding my hand and laughing at a joke I just made. The people passing us in the hallway openly stare at me, unable to wrap their minds around the fact that I joke, touch someone… That I’m being human.
I almost bump into someone, but swiftly turn to Cassian and dodge them. I smile when I smell him: pine cones, acorns and something I can’t quite describe. I linger in his embrace a second longer than necessary before I pull away again, giving him a small smile.
He winks back, his brown eyes twinkling. “You’re staring.” I blink, snapping out of my trance. “No, I’m not.” He raises his eyebrows. “Yes, you are.” I roll my eyes. “I’m not even going to have this discussion with you. You’re unworthy of my time.” He clutches his chest in mock insult. “Hey! I’m always worthy of your time.” I don’t deem that worthy of a reaction, so I stay silent while we pass a few kids who seem like they’re intently listening to each word we say while trying not to show it.
They obviously fail. I take Cassian’s arm, lifting my head high. If they need something to gossip about, I’m more than willing to provide it. He looks at me, smiling again. “Got something to prove?” “No.”
We walk another few minutes in silence until we reach the classroom. I see Valkyr already sitting in his usual seat, his frown deepening as he sees us. I raise an eyebrow at him, knowing full well he doesn’t like the two of us being together.
Not that I give a shit about his feelings, of course. I let Cassian pull me along to the back of the room, towards two seats which have been moved to be closer together. I don’t know who did that, but I don’t care. I sit down, picking up my pencil and notebook as the professor starts taking roll. I scribble a bit on my paper, shutting out his voice.
That's it for now, I'll (probably) be continuing this later on :)
Fanfic for Killing, an Excuse
@theforgottenhorcrux this is for you
I run. Past the lake, through the forest. I keep running, even when my legs burn and my feet throb. I come to a stop right before a river, then take a few steps back. Shit. I look around me, trying to find another way. There is none.
So I take a run-up, and jump. For a few seconds, I feel like I’m flying. Then, I start to fall. My feet touch the ground. I stand still for a short while, trying to catch my breath. When I’ve finally stopped feeling like I just ran through almost the entire forest (which I did), I take in my surroundings.
The trees are full of leaves, just like the bushes. Perfect for a trap. Suddenly, there’s a swift movement, too fast to catch. Another one. I curse under my breath and take the dagger out of the sheath. I’m not going down without a fight. Another movement, this time closer. I hear something rustling behind me, and quickly turn around. I see…
Some sort of human, but way smaller. I spot tiny, almost transparent wings behind her back. Must be a fairy then. But what is she doing out here? It is… Unusual for a fairy to show herself to a human. She seems to just observe me, her green eyes flicking up and down. When I step forward, her eyes widen, and she quickly flies away. “Hey, wait!” I call out, but she’s gone. Then, I remember the other movements in the bushes, and I clasp the dagger as I turn around.
It’s quiet for a few seconds before I decide no one’s there. I realize I’ve been holding my breath, and force myself to relax. I’m out of everyone’s reach. He can’t find me here. I cling on to that thought until I hear a familiar voice from behind. “Here you are.”
I don’t look at him, though I can hear the lazy smile on his face. “Cassian. I thought I told you I wanted to be left alone?” I make no effort to keep the irritation out of my voice. Cassian made a tsk-ing voice. “That’s no way to talk to your best friend, is it?” I don’t answer, just staring at the trees in front of me. I hear him walking towards me, and he lays a hand on my shoulder. “Vir?” I sigh, my shoulders slumping a bit.
I want to tell him I’m fine, but my mouth won’t form the words. I close my eyes, the events of the day finally dawning on me. My knees buckle, and Cassian can barely catch me before I hit the ground. “Careful there, Princess,” he mutters. I manage to give him a small smile. “‘Princess’? Really?”
At my sarcastic tone, he rolls his eyes. “What do you want me to call you then?” I think about that for a moment. “What about just ‘Vir’ or ‘Virelia’?” He contemplates it. “That’s boring. What do you think of ‘Knives’?” I chuckle, but then wince at the movement. Maybe that wall was a bit harder than I thought. Cassian eyes me worriedly, but he knows better than to comment on it.
I drop today at exactly 1 PM, how I've longed for this day.
