[initial reactions] Killjoys 4x08 - It Takes a Pillage

I really like that this story was about more than coming home but also D’avin realizing that its easy to slide back to learned behaviors in a toxic environment, which was exactly what happened to Dutch in the Green Space with Khlyen. 

For Johnny, coming back home was Johnny meeting his proto-Dutch. Except he did find a princess, and then the origins of ‘we could go, grab a ship any ship, just say the word.’ 

But where the sheriff was ground down by life and left without any support system and fell down, Dutch strives to be a better person and friend despite her past. So when she asked Johnny ‘what’s holding you back?’ 

Dutch, Lucy, D’avin, Jaq... they’re the people keeping him in place as an anchor. 

(Also, another check on my low key shipping of Dutch and Johnny, because the sheriff used to be Johnny’s girlfriend.)

Dutch and Zeph bonding was even better, I loved that they science-d together and that Zeph called Dutch out for her self-destructive behavior. I love that Dutch was also supportive of Zeph*. 

God this show is so good. 

Except for the Dutch and D’avin thing... which, they’re saying the right things: consent, opening up about their childhood, being supportive but there’s just no there there. 

In another show or another set of actors I’d see it, but this is why I do tend to low key ship Dutch and Johnny because they have the chemistry. They can go to friend chemistry to ‘you and me against the world’ chemistry. 

Or ship Dutch with just about everyone but D’avin.

 LOL this show, I love how proud these dorks are for teaching Jaq violence. 

(*Take That Haven! There can be more than one woman in the cast and have meaningful discussions without having to kill them off!)
