Ooh boy. 

The Kin Rit/Yardeen family really does need a star to follow by, don’t they? If they lose the people they’re tethered to they fall apart pretty fast. Intensely loyal and very emotionally dependent. They can conquer armies, planets, and empires as long as the person they’ve tethered themselves to are still alive. 

And Human!Khylen (and I think he is Human) now that he thinks his daughters are inaccessible has now fallen sway to the Lady’s emotional manipulation. 

Aneela and Dutch have the benefit of their mother’s (original!Yalena) inner strength even if their world falls apart so their not fully Kin Rit in their weakness (their soft spots).

Killjoys also come back to one of its themes, the emotionally complicated minefield of emotional and physical abuse by family. Something all the Team Awesome force shares together in different ways. 

The Jaqobis had a physically abusive father and an addict mother, Dutch grew up in a ‘family’ that fostered violence against each other, her father, Khlyen trained her at a young age to become an assassin to protect herself. Aneela, her origin-sister forgot all about Dutch and resulted in Aneela trying to kill Dutch, until Dutch returned Aneela’s memories and Aneela remembered she loved Dutch. 

Zeph returned to her abusive, ultra-conservative homestead and had to really confront her demons and all the complicated emotions they inspire. Fear, Hate, and confusingly love and respect. 

Something Dutch can understand. I love that Dutch claimed Zeph as family and they did push through and got their own ‘BRAWN’ and ‘BRAIN’ t-shirts. 

Also, everyone is in love with Fancy Lee now, as they should. Zeph and Johnny want to fight over him! Jokingly, maybe even seriously.

If my low key ship of Dutch and Johnny can’t happen, I hope we see Clara again and they end up together. 

I’m missing Aneela and Kendry and I hope we see them next episode!

That episode of Killjoys (5x08) was just perfection. The pain of really saying goodbye to her blood family and cementing her place in her found family was a masterclass in acting for Kelly McCormack (Zeph). (Also, Pip...sobs) D’avin trying and failing to play matchmaker and inadvertently inviting Calvert to a threesome with Dutch - bahahaha. Rob and Alanna, all props to these two in every scene because the complexity of emotions in both - Khlyen rediscovering his humanity and the Lady discovering it for the first time - are crazy amazing. I truly have no idea what Khlyen is planning but it’s in there somewhere. No way he lives past the final episode, though, and I’m sad about that. FANCY! the chef and historian. WHAT? I think I love you too Fancy - Zeph, get in line. THANK YOU writers for subverting the racist trope that the angry black man was to blame for the murder. It was the uniformed white dude. Praise be. Turin - I’m so scared for him right now, but his moment with Khlyen...ugh. So good. Also - the brotherly affection at the end was something my heart needed. Finally...D’avin loves Dutch so very much I am beside myself. I love D’avin so much...but that’s a sidebar. We all know but those words have to be said to each other and I fear it will be in a Han Solo-esque moment.

I MISSED ANEELA AND KENDRY, PREE AND GARED. Gah.

PS Dutch totally bought Zeph those shirts and it makes me giddy. I feel like I need to have shirts like this with one of my friends who watches Killjoys (@scapeartist - Am I the Brawn?)
