I mean really the reason why Killjoys is so good (besides the fact it's well written and interesting) is the fact that it refuses to shy away from the fact it's about love and human bonds. It never hides that fact, or undercuts it with sarcastic humour which sidelines the real emotion. It's a very straightforward show. Dutch can say "you're my gravity" to Johnny and we believe it because the writers and the story both believe it.
