Ok you weirdos lets do this!
So my followers who have been paying attention, as well as @damian-waynedc (because I'vetalked to him about this) will remember how, a while back, I was talking about Sophie Sputnik and her band, Killmama. Now, of course, what I did not mention is that Killmama is a duo. And if I did mention that, I know for a fact that I have not introduced the other half of Killmama. Rob Kingsley is the usually-guitarist of Killmama. I don't know who writes the songs so I can't say definitively how they work this but in any event, Rob usually guitars. He is 4 years, 4 months, and 4 days older than Sophie, and despite the stereotype surrounding guitarists, he's actually kind of shy. I met him at camp also, but two days after camp started, because one of the lunchtime bands playing was Killmama. So he was there, at rock camp, one of the only 2 guys to be there (The other being from Afrobeta the day before). I read interviews after the fact saying that Sophie was the more talkative of the two, which threw me off because Sophie was like awkward and a little shy, too, but considering it now... I didn't get to see the whole show. I ended up being interviewed for a local newspaper, along with 4 other girls. When I got back, I think Sophie was guitarring but I could be wrong. In any event, once the show was over, I don't know what happened to Sophie, but I think she disappeared. In any event, I was still standing up by the stage and decided to go look at what guitar pedals he was using. He saw me looking and we started a small conversation. Rob is not what you picture when you think of a rockstar. Maybe a punk rocker, if he were more extroverted or upstanding. Rob has messed up teeth and usually wears a beanie-style hat. Under his hat, if you were to see, is a Mohawk that is currently bright pinkish purple. Nonetheless, he doesn't fit the stereotype anymore than Sophie does. So after the pedal conversation ended, I went to look at a thing at the end of the stage, basically the merch trunk. They were selling T shirts and cassette tapes (basically this was the first reason I got a tape player). I thought I didn't have enough money for a shirt (I later found out that I did but it was too late and TO THIS FREAKING DAY), and while I had enough money for a tape, I had no way to listen to it. So me and Emma S. (For super-awesome) are standing there talking about the merch, and Rob walks over. I don't remember the exact conversation but he ended up giving me a tape that had a download code to digitally download the album fromantic bandcamp. Then I was confused about if he gave me the tape or if I was supposed to pay for it so when I asked Sophie later she said whatever but I decided to pay for it anyways (call me stupid, whatever. It was worth it, and she gave me a discount). Anyways. I saw Rob (with Sophie so basically Killmama) again on November 8th (him and my dad talked after their set and Sophie made me play drums), December 5th (we barely talked to him but we invited both of them to my little sister's party) and December 19th (the day before my little sister's party because they had a thing the next day that was related to the thing from the 5th) which involved much conversing with both of them as well as a mini jam session where I ended up singing Please Don't Go in my garage. Now, I ended up friending him on facebook, and he recently invited me to like a page for his current record-label-in-progress (Go like the page, it's Fuzz Baby Records). So I started a conversation about it. He records local bands and when I told him I record stuff in the garage and at the library (whole nother story), he sent me a link to a 'q and a' video from a producer lady with Sound on Sound (Sylvia Massy), and said that he hopes he can turn Fuzz Baby into an actual official label one day, but for now, it's waiting. Sometimes you can learn a lot from someone who is overlooked, and also don't judge a book by its cover. Rob is awesome and nice. While I tend to talk about Sophie more than Rob, that doesn't mean Rob isn't also awesome. Without one or the other, Killmama wouldn't exist, and it just seems to work well.
