Guerrilla Games walked away from Killzone on purpose. After Shadow Fall shipped in 2013 as a PS4 launch title, the studio was done with it. Art director Roy Postma put it plainly — "we needed to refresh the palette." Horizon Zero Dawn was, by their own description, the opposite of Killzone in every way. That pivot paid off commercially. But for fans of the series, it's been radio silence for over a decade, and it doesn't look like that's changing.

It's not the only PlayStation franchise collecting dust, Resistance has been sitting untouched just as long. Sony built some of the most distinct shooter worlds of the PS2/PS3 eras and has shown no interest in going back.
