How to eat healthy and loose weight ?
Recently I sent an email to some of my friends about the benefits of not eating sugar.
Only weeks before I had a BBQ and we talked at lengthy about all sorts of foods and their respective health benefits and downfalls. Both Sasker and Freek made interesting points about how eating healthy does not only help you lose weight but more importantly makes you 'feel better'.
As a result I had already planned on eating less sugar and so, finding extra reasons to refrain from it was only helpfull.
Little did I know I would get myself in deep trouble ...
My friend Freek challenged met not just to limit sugar consumption but also to follow a diet he had cooked up for himself. This died was loosely based on Michael Pollan, Fit for life, and some less known diet variants.
Long story short, I would not be allowed to eat the following products :
bread, potatoes and other high-carb foodstuffs.
sugar (that includes honey, apple syrup, cola)
beer :( (it is made of wheat and has alcohol in it which means it becomes sugar once the liver has processed it...)
Also, I would have to do daily power training (I did this already for some weeks so no great loss their).
So, from today onwards I will keep a day-by-day log (or blog if you will) of my challenges and also of the progress.
Progress?
Yes!
The idea is not just to lose weight and become more healthy but the real challenge is to stay that way. In other words I do not need an other diet. A need a new way of eating.
Isn't that the same ting? No it isn't.
I can do diets.
I have done several in the past. My weight has been anywhere between 75 and 101kg in resent years.
But a "diet" in our modern culture has now more to do with "how to loose weight in 6 weeks" instead of "how to live a better, happier en more productive life and to live longer too".
So, this diet is primarily not about weight loss but about living healthier while still being happy about what I eat.
My first report for today: As breakfast I had 2 kiwis and 1 banana. As lunch I ate 2 baked eggs (baked in real butter, not margarine or some other "fake" product) with one tomato and 500ml of yoghurt. I don't know what I'll eat for dinner yet but my guess is one plate of slaw and tomatoes with some mozzarella-like cheese and some baked Tahoe. My current weight is 97,4kg.
