THE KING'S CASE NOTE

GENRES: Historical, Mystery, Comedy

SUMMARY: Treachery is afoot in Hanyang and the only one who can resolve it is the King himself (and his top historian).

THIS MOVIE HAS EVERYTHING: Autopsies, skeet shooting, giant sea monsters, submersibles, explosions, poison, swordsmanship, photographic memory, research, piggy back rides, fizzy water, psychics, fishing, magic tricks, and deductive reasoning.

HOT TAKE: Although this movie was nothing spectacular overall, it presented me with some remarkable kdrama sageuk firsts, including a Darth-Maul style connecteddouble sword, a King doing an autopsy, and a mechanical sea monster powered by a Joseon-era bathysphere.

This was a great role for Lee Sun Kyun, as it reminded me of how effortlessly he could charm the pants off an audience even in just the first 5 minutes of screen time.
