-Y/N’s P.O.V-
I walked through the bustling streets of the capital, keeping an eye out for any of the royal guard. It felt a bit nostalgic to be back here but that didn’t last long as I finally realized this place wasn’t really home for me, it never was. What made it feel like home were the people around me but with Hera gone and Yunho having to keep his distance per my request this place was just a place I lived in, nothing more and nothing less. I let out a heavy sigh, looking over my shoulder to see Jay and Uri following closely behind. I have a feeling Jongdae knows what I’m up to since he sent these two with me but highly doubt that’s the case. He can’t possibly know what Byungho said to me which means he sent them with me because he’s wary of the guards catching me.
“You know it’s a lot more suspicious with three people with hoods over their heads than one right?” I said, wanting to get them to let me go on my own.
“We’re not letting you out of our sight little dove, so don’t even think about it.” Jay said, his voice serious.
I scoffed, cursing under my breath. If they come with me Byungho will have Joonhyuk killed as soon as he sees them. As I tried to think of a way to get them to go a different route or lose them within a crowd Byungho’s last words to me rang in my head, ‘I’ll bring the boy to Berry’s pub, I’m sure you know where it is. Come alone or the boy dies.’ I frowned, if Joonhyuk dies then all of this is for nothing but how was I going to get them to let me out of their sight? I only needed a few seconds but even that seemed difficult. I rubbed my hands over my face, wracking my brain for ideas when I heard the sounds of the crowd getting louder. I looked up to that they had gathered around two small children dancing. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion until it hit me, today was the day of the black sun.
I looked around frantically, seeing all the decorations hung up, people wearing gold cloaks with the black sun on their backs. Of course, how could I have forgotten. Apparently this year the sun was to turn black for at least two minutes. This was my chance, I could use those two minutes of complete darkness to slip away from Uri and Jay. Once away from them I could make it to the pub, yes, this was the opportunity I was looking for. I bowed my head slightly, hiding the smile that played at my lips. It was supposed to happen at around midday this year. I looked up at the sky to see that it was directly overhead, my eyes widening in surprise at seeing it already started. I looked over my shoulder to see Uri and Jay looking around, completely oblivious to everything. They must be from a place that doesn’t make a fuss about this time of year, if they were they’d know why the celebrations were going on.
“What’s going on?” I heard Jay say under his breath, noticing how it was slowly starting to get darker and darker.
Uri said nothing, his brow furrowed as he looked around. It wouldn’t take Uri long to figure out what was happening, I could practically already see the gears turning in his head. Just as he figured it out the last bits of the sun turned black, the whole capital swallowed by the darkness.
“Jay grab her!” I heard Uri yell, he must’ve figured out my plan as well.
Just as I went to take off I felt my cloak being tugged from behind, “Y/N don’t-”
“I’m sorry.” I said in a voice barely above a whisper, untying the strings around my neck that kept the cloak in place.
-
I leaned forward, resting my hands on my knees as I leaned forward to catch my breath. I looked around to see that I was fairly close to the pub but not I was out without a cloak in broad daylight. With a sigh I simply walked over to a stall and stealthily grabbed a cloak they were selling, swiftly wrapping it around my shoulders and tying the strings together. I needed something to not only hide my face but the two swords I had attached to my hips. I looked around to see if anyone saw me, relieved when I noticed everyone was too preoccupied doing their own thing. I nodded to no one in particular, going over what I had planned in my head as I made my way over to the pub.
I must’ve been too wrapped up in my thoughts because I was standing right in front of the door before I knew it. I looked up at the door, my heart plummeting to the pit of my stomach as the doubt started to seep in. I started doubting if I should be doing this to begin with. The selfish part of me wanted to just take off and leave everything behind, the capital, Joonhyuk, even Jongdae. I wanted to escape from it all. I started to think why I should be the one to risk my life for these people. My life had been one catastrophe after another, since the moment I was born I’ve felt that I’ve been cursed, cursed to live a miserable life. And here I was, with a chance to escape from everything, alive, a chance to start a new life. But as soon as that thought crossed my mind a sad smile took purchase on my face. I chuckled softly, clenching my hands into fists at my sides.
You know nothing in your life will change if you run away.
I know.
So why not do something good for once?
I felt a single tear cascade down the side of my face. Damn you, Jongdae, if it was for anybody else I wouldn’t even think about doing this but you--I let out a dry chuckle this time, feeling a lump in my throat. I looked up at the sky one last time, knowing deep down that it might actually be the last time. I reached up to wipe away my tears before shoving the door to the pub open and there he was.
Byungho was sitting in the middle of the pub, facing the door as if he was waiting for me. And as soon as he laid eyes on me a grin formed on his lips, his eyes lighting up.
“Y/N, love, you really showed up,” He said with a chuckle, shaking his head, “Man, that Jongdae really got you to fall hard for him, huh? Fuck...do I feel sorry for you now, but, a deal’s a deal.”
Byungho gave a wave of his hand and before I knew it a young boy who I assumed to be Joonhyuk was thrown in front of me. I took a cautious step towards him, looking at Byungho only to see him nod, gesturing towards the boy. Quickly, without wasting any time I went to him, untying his arms as fast as I could. I gave him a once over, seeing that he was practically unharmed.
“Who--who are you?” He asked in a small voice, retracting from my touch.
I gave him a small smile, gently placing a hand on his shoulder, trying to reassure him that he was safe, “I-I’m a friend of your brother’s-”
“Girlfriend to be more exact.” Byungho said, cutting me off as he stood up from his seat.
I gave him a look before looking back into Joonhyuk’s eyes, “I’m here to take you home.”
“Ah ah ah, I’m going to have to stop you there love. You’re not taking him anywhere.”
I rose to my feet at his words stepping in front of Joonhyuk, protecting him from Byungho, “But you said-”
“I said, I’ll trade him for you. I never said anything about you taking him to Jongdae. He’s a big boy, he can find his own way to his brother.” Byungho said taking a step towards me.
“How do I know you won’t kill him before he gets there?”
Byungho took another step forward, standing directly in front of me now. His face adorned a smirk as he leaned forward, mere inches separating our faces.
“You have my word, love.”
I stared into his eyes, searching for anything that told me he was lying through his teeth. I was surprised to find nothing of the sort, he’s telling the truth. With a nod I took a step back, turning to Joonhyuk and helped him to his feet.
“J-Jongdae will be roaming around the capital until nightfall but I’m sure Jay and Uri have gotten to him by now to tell him that I’ve disappeared. They’ll regroup at the ship like we planned if anything went wrong. You--You just run down to the docks as fast as you can do you understand?” I asked, making sure he understood what I was saying.
“W-Wait I...I don’t-”
“Joonhyuk, do you or do you not understand?” I asked once more, cutting him off.
Joonhyuk opened his mouth to speak but closed it immediately, nodding his head. I smiled at the nod, reaching into my pocket quickly and pulled something out, putting it in his hand, closing his fingers around it.
“G-Give this to your brother okay? Tell him--tell him that I said I’m sorry.” I said with tears in my eyes, my hands shaking slightly, “Now go, go!”
Joonhyuk hesitated for a moment before swallowing harshly, nodding slowly. And without another word he stumbled out of the pub, running to the docks. I stared at the door of the pub as it closed, clenching and unclenching my hands at my sides. I closed my eyes for a moment before placing my hands on the hilt of the swords at my sides, pulling them out of their sheaths. I turned to face Byungho as I pulled the blades free, seeing a grin on his face.
“Come on now, love, there’s no need for that.”
I smirked at his words, trying to hide the fact that I was scared out of my mind, “You didn’t think I’d just go with you without a fight did you?”
-Jongdae’s P.O.V-
As soon as the sun turned pitch black the two that I had with me grabbed onto both of my arms. I had to hold back the laugh that threatened to fall from my lips as I shook them off.
“Guys I’m fine.” I let out with a chuckle.
“But...sir…”
“I’m fine it should be over quickly.”
And just like I said within the next minute or so the darkness faded, the sun shining brightly like before.
“See? Everything’s fine.” I said with a smile.
That smile fell as quickly as it came as I heard my name being yelled out from a distance. I looked towards them, seeing Uri and Jay running towards me...without Y/N. As soon as I saw them without her a sinking feeling fell over me. My heart fell to the pit of my stomach.
“Where--Where’s Y/N?”
“I’m sorry man, but when it went dark she...bolted. I tried to stop her but she got away.” Jay said, worry clear in his eyes.
I ran my fingers through my hair, already feeling the desperation try to take over. Shit, I knew it, I fucking knew it. She was up to something.
“Fuck!” I yelled out, kicking at discarded box.
“Jongdae...what do you want us to do?” Uri asked, taking a step forward.
I wracked my brain for an idea, a clue as to where she could’ve gone. She’s been so closed off and reserved for days now I could hardly tell what she was thinking. Every time I asked her about it she either dodged the question or ignored me entirely. She’s been this way since-- no, no she couldn’t have. My heart began to race at the possibility. I didn’t want to believe it but it made sense.
“Take me to where you were with her last.” I ordered in a firm voice, both Uri and Jay nodding as they lead the way.
I followed after them, my thoughts in a jumbled mess, my emotions trying to get the best of me. The last time I felt like this was when Byungho took Joonhyuk from me and now that there’s a possibility that Y/N might-- I cut my own thoughts off, not wanting to even think about it. I was so wrapped up in my own thoughts I didn’t notice a body slam into me.
“I-I’m sorry I just-”
I looked up at the sound of the voice, my eyes widening in surprise, “J-Joon?”
He looked up into my eyes, his immediately filling with tears. Without wasting another second I threw my arms around his body, hugging him close to me. As soon as my arms wrapped around him I felt his shoulders shake with a sob. My eyes filled with tears at having him with me again.
“W-Why I mean--I mean how are you here?!?! I thought Byungho-”
“B-Byungho he...and she stayed, told me to f-find you and-”
I cut him off, placing my hands on the sides of his face, forcing him to look into my eyes instead of everywhere else, “Hey, hey calm down. It’s okay, you’re okay.”
He took a few deep breaths, closing his eyes for a moment before opening them, “She’s still back there, Dae.”
“W-Who?” I asked but knew exactly who he was talking about.
“She’s uh, about this tall, her hair came up to here, really nice eyes, like, really nice. I felt completely safe under her gaze and um, a scar that went from her ear to the middle of her neck.” He said, describing her perfectly, down to that unmistakable scar on her face.
I let out a shaky breath at his words, feeling myself start to lose it but I held it together, “Where?”
“B-Berry’s. They’re at Berry’s pub.”
As soon as those words left his lips I pulled Dom towards me, “You are to take him to the ship and guard him with your life. If anyone tries to stop you and I mean anyone you kill them am I clear?”
“Crystal, sir.”
“Good, now go.” I said through clenched teeth, releasing him.
I looked to my brother one last time, placing a gentle hand atop his head for a moment. I sighed heavily, letting my hand fall back to my side. Just as I went to give my back to him he stopped me, his hand wrapping around my wrist tightly. Before I could question him he placed a folded up piece of paper in my hand.
“She said she’s sorry.”
At his words a single tear slid down the side of my face before I could stop it, my chest tightened, my heart skipping a beat. I nodded, closing my fingers around the letter and called out to the other three to follow me.
-Y/N’s P.O.V-
I gasped for air, pushing myself up on trembling arms. I couldn’t breath, my lungs not taking in the air around me, they refused to. I clawed at my chest, gasping desperately for air, watching the blood from my mouth trickle to the floor below me. Just when I thought I was finally going to breath in that fresh air I’ve been desperately gasping for this whole time I felt his foot made contact with my stomach once more. Like the last kick I felt something crack at my side. I groaned deep in my throat, turning over onto my back as I clutched at my abdomen, as if that would relieve the pain.
“You really thought you could take us all on, huh” Byungho said smugly, crouching down next to me, his fingers brushing against my cheek softly.
I slapped his hand away, still having enough energy to do that at least. He chuckled softly, his fingers grabbing my jaw roughly, “You’ll pay for the men you took from me today. You killed eight of my men and for every one you killed it earned you a scar, by the time I’m done with you not even Jongdae will want you with the scars all over your body.”
I grit my teeth, feeling the blood in my mouth beginning to accumulate before I spit it in his face, “Fuck you.”
He set his jaw, closing his eyes as he let out a deep breath through his nose, pulling his arm back and punched me scare in the face. He let me go as my head lolled back, disoriented. Slamming my back against the floor he stood up, turning his back on me as if he was going to walk away but he came right back swinging his foot forward. He kicked at me over and over again, I lost count how many times his foot made contact with my body. By the time he was done with me I was barely holding onto consciousness, my body hurting all over, I could barely move. In the state I was in the only thing I could think of doing was call out to him but I couldn’t even make my own voice come out of my mouth, something as simple as that hurt too much. Just as I was about to pass out from the pain the door to the pub swung open. There was silence for a moment before a booming voice yelled out.
“Killed them, kill them all! Not one of them gets out of here alive!”
I hear Byungho laugh before giving his men orders, the sound of metal clanging against metal being the only thing I heard. I let out a groan, forcing myself to turn onto my stomach as I tried to crawl away to a safe place, to a place where I wouldn’t be harmed anymore. I didn’t get very far before I felt strong arms scoop me off the floor. I tried fighting against their hold but I didn’t have enough strength in me to raise my hand.
“I’ve got you, now. You did good holding out for this long, dove. Now let me take care of the rest alright? You just get some rest.”
“D-Dae?”
“Y-Yeah its me dove, I’m here.” He said, his voice breaking towards the end.
I gave a small smile before closing my eyes, giving into the darkness that wanted to claim me so bad.
