processes changing
I don't often make text posts but I thought I'd make a note for myself if anything. i developed a way of working with garment in my undergraduate degree that worked extremely well for my practice then. It was orderly, carried out almost with military precision. Very thing was tight, well formed and I had the skills to carry it out exactly as it was in my head Now in my MAVA my ideas and concepts have changed. They are no longer about these tight rigid things. The ideas are fluid and merge back and forth. Where previously things had boundaries for me, I now believe they are without boundaries I'm still investigating the space of the body but in a totally new way. The ideas are so exciting but that old way of working is too rigid for this work. While I've been really trying to pin these ideas down for the last year and a half I feel I've recently been able to fully understand and shift my approach to my studio practice to be fluid and work in a totally different manner that allows me to really investigate these shifts in my work. It was only after a 5 week trip studying overseas in London and Italy that allowed me to really develop and see that I was changing my ways. It's been difficult breaking out of old known, trusted and established ways of working, especially in a Masters program where I feel that sometimes you are supposed to know everything straight away. This is not the case but I think there currently is more pressure to be sure of yourself.
I guess it's just great because instead of feeling like i'm unsure of myself I am now excited to be developing these new ways of thinking and approaching my studio practice!
Obviously this is just a moment of reflection, but for me it is a big AH HA! moment.
